We've got the new launch date and the game has a new director.

As Sony previously promised, they've revealed all the pertinent information for the anticipated new PlayStation 4 exclusive, Driveclub .

According to the updated report over at the PlayStation Blog , the new socially-connected racer will be available on October 7. Technically, that's another delay, but at least we don't have to wait until next year. The PlayStation Plus version will also be available on that date, but we don't have all the requisite details for that iteration.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida also introduced us to the director, who has been in place as of February 2014:

"In addition to the new date, we are also very pleased to announce that as of February 2014, Paul Rustchynsky — better known as Rushy — has been at the helm of DRIVECLUB as Game Director. We appreciate the announcement has come a little late, however we wanted to inform his appointment along with the new date announcement."

Rustchynsky was the game director for the well-received MotorStorm RC , and he has been an "integral contributor to all major titles coming out of Evolution Studios since 2004." Well, so this guy knows what he's doing in the world of racing, obviously. The only problem now is that October 7 is already very full; Dragon Age: Inquisition and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor are also set to launch on that day.

Yep, fall is gonna be busy .

Unfortunately this game has two huge negatives. It's releasing almost a year after it was supposed to and in a time when all the big games are coming out. I'm still getting it but I wish it luck…

maybe I'm looking for an argument here but it seems to me Sony is keeping this for October in order to compel gamers to renew their PS Plus membership. It's obvious a whole ton of PS Plus members signed up at the launch of the PS4. Some being compelled by the promise of Drive Club being free. This membership is set to expire in November for a great many. Yet, here's Drive Club coincidentally arriving in October? Nearly a full year passed it's target release?

True, if the game isn't ready the game isn't ready. I understand that.
But from a business sense I doubt a project like this (one where it's supposedly "free") would be kept alive for an extra full year unless Sony had another motive in order to do so.

It just seems sorta crappy. That's all. One way or another I feel like Drive Club has stink written all over it. I suppose in the event it succeeds as a hit it may all have been worth it. I just feel a social racer isn't going to light up audiences and Sony is looking to double dip members for a renewal.

If they were trying to get people to renew plus wouldn't they just release it in late november, and not 5 weeks before the time when plus memberships purchased at launch would expire? Also, those who are interested in drive club would have that time to try it and if they like it buying another Plus subscription is actually cheaper than getting the game itself. I get where you're coming from and it's certainly an interesting thought, but to me it doesn't seem like a ploy to get people to renew subscriptions.

However, I do agree that we should be very skeptical of the quality of the game itself. I mean getting a new director 3 months AFTER it was supposed to release has all sorts of alarm bells ringing for me.

I don't want to think of it as a singled out ploy. Instead, a factor of many reasons.
Releasing the game in October would make good on their original promise — technically. But giving gamers a taste then asking for a re-up on PS Plus one month later is a value added approach to marketing PS+. I can imagine new adopters to PS+ aren't finding it all that great PS4-side. What with the wealth of indie titles and pretty much nothing else.

Still looks amazingly sexy, though what was up with the pixellation of the trees in the bottom of the screen in that last shot? Shoddy alpha effects?

I can't wait to hear some hands-on impressions from this one to find out whether the issues that I had with the build have been remedied. A part of me says that, with a year's delay, they have to have been, but that trailer doesn't really give me confidence.

After so many delays, why would they CHOOSE to release the game on the same day as several other triple-A titles?!?

Then again, it's not the first time Sony has done inexplicable blunders like this…

And just like some other recent game trailers this trailer doesn't really tell us anything since it shows absolutely nothing from actual gameplay…

I'd love another Motorstorm. Pacific Rift is tied with Split/Second for the most fun I had with a racer last gen. I thought GT7: Prologue is coming this year. Sony seems to be setting this up for a fall. I'd hate to see Evo get shuttered because of this.

[email protected] people actually complaining about the release date when they were not going to buy it and get the free version on PS+. The release date does not matter because if anyone really wants it they will buy it regardless or just play the PS+ version. October is nothing special other than the usual and I would rather DC over anything coming except Batman and The Order.

I'm more interested in Project Cars, in all honesty.

Driveclub looks like a very social version of Need for Speed, which is fine, but I've outgrown it. Now I prefer simulators and realism, which Project Cars is more likely to be closer to than Driveclub.

Me too. Project Cars looks to be *the* car game for the new generation.
