It's hard not to comment.

According to DualShockers , the Japanese website for Final Fantasy XV offers some new gameplay details, although interestingly enough, they're different for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

That just means Square Enix opted to put up slightly different info on the FFXV pages for PS4 and Xbox One. Still, it's worth noting. Here's what was posted on the Xbox page:

"Final Fantasy XV features a high action system unprecedented in the series. By taking advantage of the specs of next generation consoles, characters can move freely across the whole screen. In addition to that, the party battle system is now more advanced, allowing you to enjoy party battle by switching characters more strategically."

And here's what they found on the PS4 page:

"The battles featured in Final Fantasy XV have evolved greatly from the previous games of the series, as it’s created as an action game. The game switches seamlessly from the field to battle and the combat situation evolves rapidly. It goes on quickly with a sense of full realism.

Also, it’s possible to fight not only with the hero Noctis, but also to switch with other characters. Furthermore, it’s also possible to perform a combination attack with a companion while enjoying the dynamic effect. …Noctis can fight by making use of a variety of weapons and can move quickly within the areas by attacking enemies with stylish action!"

Grand. Well, I suppose someone somewhere will buy it; it could indeed appeal to a whole new generation of Final Fantasy followers. As for us oldsters, we don't power the industry forward because we're in the minority now, and Square Enix has to cater to the younger, mainstream crowd. Sure, we get it. …still depressing.

Hey cool. Things I've known now for….4 years? How about you tell everyone how playstation version isnt going to be screwed over by the xbox one version. Thats what I'm more interested in at the moment.

With every passing day, I worry about this game. If xbox one can barely handle an xbox 360 port (tomb raider) how the hell is it going to handle this monster? It won't.

This entire thing is starting to get me on edge. This game can't fail because if it does, FF will die. The fact 13-2, and 13-3 sold so little is a very bad sign. This game has already lost hundreds of thousands of potential sales because its going on xbox 1. I'm trying to be optimistic but I don't think I can anymore. This game might suck hardcore. 8 years have gone by since this announcement. I've been through so much in life and this thing hasn't gotten any better. I really don't know what to think of this anymore.

Sorry for the crying complainy nature of this comment but I've got such a horrible feeling about this game. And I've always been so hyped for it. F-ing microsoft. Damn square enix 2007-recent. Sony shoulda just bribed them and kept it exclusive. Imma go play FF7 and remember that it wasn't always bad. It was OK to be hyped for final fantasy stuff.

It still is…right?

Since we always knew that Versus would be an action game I'm not fussed about it. I think it will be a pretty great game because it appears to have an arching story with subplots. That's what FF is all about, as long as those plots make sense. It sounds like there will be roaming fields and battle screens, otherwise they wouldn't have to transfer "seamlessly" and that setup is how I like things. Fighting right on the field is for Western games.

I can deal with the action, though I prefer the old school the fact that it'll be clever Japanese ideas makes me less worried. I'm really hoping that when it comes to FFXVI they will look at the terrible response to XIII-2 and XIII-3 and the overwhelming love and sales of FFX HD and decide to return to the right way with command based battles and full party control that doesn't include bouncing from one guy to the next (issuing party orders at once is always more strategic).

Gonna be optimistic.

Indeed, we knew this was an action game since before and were still looking forward to it. An action-rpg can still be a great rpg. Besides, we still don't know that they won't follow through with what they said after the success of bravely default. It's not like this game could be indicative of that, they'd have to scrap and remake it at this point.

I do worry though, that if this game is particularly successful they may completely forget about it and think they were right all along.

have mentioned this before – remember reading a comment from someone at square/enix stating that was what they wanted to achieve, not necessarily in reference to XV, but to FF as a whole.

Square Enix…weren't they the ones who were going to take all their franchises back to their roots and stop catering to the action oriented Westerners?

Nah, I must have gotten them mixed up with some other developer.

They did, but they made that decision after working on this game for like 8 years already, so they couldn't go back and redo the combat for it after all that time.

I see SE is still on a mission to turn FF into a twitch game to attract the young COD crowd… So much for returning to their roots. My interest level in FFXV is very low right now.

I get it… it's like versus… so grain of salt for me.

Doesn't mean I'm not a little upset my favorite franchise of all time won't be anything like itself. It also doesn't mean that if it's good I won't try it.

It just won't be the must-have collector's edition day 1 take all my monies purchase for me, that's all.

FFXV was always intended to be an action-rpg…..why the change in tone for so many people? (No mean intentions, I'm genuinely curious).
I know many people would like a return to turn-based combat, myself included, however, this FF seems to have more elements of a FF game than the whole XIII series combined.

Open world, exploration, airships, and hopefully an actually engaging plot that won't spoon-feed you information through datalogs.

I'm going to remain optimistic. Yeah, SE is more or less telling us what we already know, which is kinda annoying. But I don't understand the assumption that action automatically equals "dumbing down" or whatever. I don't see anyone looking at KH's combat system for example, and calling it shallow.

We've known this for a long, long time now, but it was no biggie when it was FF XII Versus, it was a spin off title.

However now that it's a straight up numbered title, we saw it coming, but it's still just not right.

"Yes, Square. Please make a PlayStation 4 game that plays exactly like a SNES game. We want a game that just looks better." Good grief…..

Yeah, no-one's actually saying that. People are simply expressing their opinion that the real-time "high action" battle system of FFXV is not what they consider the franchise to be about. Whatever they implement needn't be the same systems, but they need to follow the same tenets of a turn-based, party-based battle system that allows the players to take stock of what they're up against and alter their strategy on the fly to deal with it.

What people are asking for is evolution, rather than revolution.

Nobody around here has ever said or even implied any such thing.

More to the point, any particular reason you're still here? You obviously have a problem with this site and everyone here, so why bother?

Here's what: The next time you post another inflammatory comment clearly designed to cause problems, I'm just ditching your account. No warning, either. You contribute nothing but confrontation.

I used to wonder if it was possible for a person to be so devoid of creativity that they could not imagine building on the strengths of the past to bring forward a fresh and unique product.

Then I met Kid.

P.s. FFXIV built on the strengths of the past and have brought forward an excellent product that runs at a good pace and has excellent visuals.

Back in the PS2 era, while the story was somewhat bland, FFXII created a masterful battle system. So even history… even things that have already been done and proven… should easily show you where the possibilities for evolving the genre are…

Then again… as my previous comment suggests…

Well, my comment was clearly hyperbole. Of course no one has asked for this. But also expecting a series this old to remain "turn based" and "slow" because it's "better" is pretty silly. Especially, if the game type was a product of the technology available. If these creators are unshackled by expectations are allowed to create something unique, fun, and fresh to the JRPG genre and also challenging, I'm on board. I am a huge fan of the The Last Story for the Wii because of this.

I really have having to explain this again but i will. I have no problem with anyone on this site. Ive never attacked anyone, unless they were constantly on my case and made it personal, like the prez of my fan club, Underdog. Ive certainly made my opinion known and if its unpopular, ok. But im just a faceless nobody on the net and according to you, Ben, since i had the audacity to have both The Last of Us and Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z on my shelf, no credibilty. So, anything i say shouldnt be taken too seriously by anyone. Just a bunch of properly placed letters. I do this when im bored and not in the vicinity of a gaming system. Talking is ok, but playing is what i live for (dont tell the wife and kids, though i believe they suspect). Ive played antagonist a few times but having differences of opinion isnt that. .

I think I'd just be happy knowing you have an opinion that is founded in at least some truth. I have no problem with a differing opinion. What else can we assume when you're argument is based in assuming people are asking for something that plays exactly like SNES rpgs but with better graphics… Your comment implies you don't understand even a little bit. Even if joking, a good joke would actually address cheekily the real issues raise.

That's just short sighted, and you got called out on it. Deal with it.

As for me being your fan, there's some truth there. I enjoy easy targets.

I don't like the exclamation point at the end of the second blurb. It's as though they're trying to tell me to get excited and I'm all like… nah. That tactic doesn't work.

I'm actually fully behind FFXV. The video they released last year looked absolutely incredible, though I do confess to not being the biggest fan of "speed". Sometimes you just gotta slow down and walk in the left-hand lane. Ah well, Natural Doctrine will allow me to slow down.

Whenever I hear "strategy" and "action game" in the same gameplay description, I think of Brutal Legend's RTS sequences. *shudder*

so maybe we can hope the reverse of the FFXIII trilogy. Where after each consecutive installment instead of drawing further and further away from their classic formula, they draw closer and closer to it.

…so basically, FFXV-3 will be where it's at.
