This is an update you'll definitely appreciate.
Sony has detailed the anticipated new 1.70 firmware update for the PlayStation 4, and it's full of cool new features.
For instance, you'll be able to pre-load games you purchased digitally, which means you'll be able to start playing mere minutes after midnight on launch day. Each game will even have its own countdown so you know precisely when you can boot up and get going. Update 1.70 will also deliver SHAREfactory, which will let you apply basic edits to your Share Button activities, and apply commentary or on-screen text. You can even import your own music for your videos.
Edited videos can be exported to the USB drive as well, if you're so inclined. Oh, and it's true that the update will allow you to disable HDCP on your games, allowing you to pass the signal through an external capture device. Of course, that's only if you really wanna.
No date for update 1.70 yet but it should be arriving soon.
the pre-loading thing is cool, but I still want to be able to watch my own movies, I don't know why a top of the line games/entertainment machine doesn't have this simple feature.
Yeah man, my PS3 is full of vids.
Having games preloaded before midnight release is very nice, but like Ben said yesterday… most of us are busy adults and frankly I'm rarely up at midnight playing games unless it's Friday night. The game will be there tomorrow morning or next weekend.
It's not that serious >_<… oh it's rumored to be realesed on 04/30 but we shall see.
How exactly are we supposed to import music into shared videos when the ps4 won't accept mp3s and cds yet?
I get that preloading was most likely a wanted feature as well by others, but I prefer physical copies of my games. So it doesn't apply to me at all, unlike the mp3 issue.
Maybe songs you buy from Music Unlimited?
I was also wondering how we were going to import music. I don't know all the details of music unlimited except that you have to pay for it and I'm not paying for such a limiting service.
If I buy a cd I can turn it into an mp3 and use the music anywhere. Not going to re-buy music I already own either.
Nice stuff for young folks, I'd rather spend my time playing than making special videos but that is hella popular these days.
Funny how things have changed, now the release party is just you sitting at home alone in the dark on a Tuesday night watching the on-screen countdown as you wipe cheetos dust on your shirt.
I think you mean Monday night.
Worthless update to me. I don't need the ability to pre-download games before they release because i buy my games on disc. the SHARE Crap i could careless and dont even use. all i want is friend list notifications.
its worthless to pre download for me purely because they over charge for the games!
I got a pc for all this crap. Just make some damn games!!!
New games on a new console??? Preposterous!!
Yeah, who likes to have options and versatility?
I don't wait till midnight to play a game, and i don't share vids of myself. Hope there's more here. Like maybe Sony will stop blocking access to competing music websites like Spotify and Pandora?

I don't understand any of this. Sony says they listen to user feedback. Which users are they listening to?? I see everyone say they don't care about sharing. Hows about making the menu navigation a bit less like a spreadsheet program from the 90s??? What about having to go through 3 screens to turn off my damn controller??? Oh, and the light. IT BURRNNSSS!!!! I have lots of faith for the games that are to come but Jesus. Come to think of it, who the hell designed this thing? Sure, it looks cool, but one of you tell me you haven't had a bitch of a time trying to plug any of the cables into the back of it. It's a slant. You can't even steady the front with your hand…cause it's a SLANT! Next plan Sony. Make external updates that shape shift the system into something more practical.
