If you're a technophile, or you simply want to have more customization options for your game system, you'd appreciate this.

The service isn't available in Western territories just yet but maybe if there's enough demand for it…

According to DualShockers , Sony has started selling individual PlayStation 4 parts to domestic gamers. You can't really build a PS4 from scratch, but you can grab spare parts if you wish. For instance, there's an HDD bay bracket, HDD bay cover, screw set and power cord. We don't know if this service will make its way to North America or Europe, but it might be a possibility.

For the record, there's a similar program in place for the PS3 in Japan. The question is, would you want to this option? I bet some core gamers would.

No interest whatsoever. I prefer some software updates such as transferring all my music, video and pictures. Customizing the PS4 it's useless to me, I'm looking at the TV most of the time not the PS4 lol.

How about an update to make my PSN account a Master Account? That's long overdue. U_U

All them parts seem useless anyway. The main thing with the PS4 i'd want to replace is the HDD which apparently is easy to do and quite easy to obtain a replacement HDD suitable anyway. Beyond that I wouldn't want to do any of the rest.

Probably cheaper to just buy for parts/not working systems on ebay like everyone else. I made bank on a non-working PS2 once.

I'd still have my original 60 gig I'd that service was available.

That heat gun trick is not a permanent fix

Be pretty cool if the systems were designed to be easily cosmetically modifiable. It would rely on ease of access to skins and alternative plates and the like, but they could make a nice pre-order bonus, or something.

nice to have easily looseable or damageable bits like screws, bays and even the high gloss plate on the ps4 as replacement parts but everything else not really necessary.
not many people have the skills or even equipment required to take these things apart, i mean how many people here actually own static proof mats and wrist bands?
yea, i thought so.

customizable plates would be nice though, one thing that really helped the 360 sell so well was the massive amount of customizable shells it had available.
even the special edition consoles were nice with their custom sound effects.
one thing i wish $ony would realise, you have no idea the amount of people who would trade in their current system just so they could get a new limited edition specially skinned console for a new game.
perfect way to boost the sales of a system, not only drag in new customers but also sell another system to someone who otherwise would not be buying another one.

that reminds me, remember the uber exclusive MGS4 gunmettal grey backwards compatible ps3 $ony had signed by the dev teams just before the game released?
i remember they were only available in JP, and were extremely short numbers.
i remember seeing a online auction for one a few months ago and last i saw of it with a few days to go it was up over EIGHT GRAND!
goes to show how much people are willing to pay for a collectors item.
