Everyone has their own reasons for purchasing a new video game console.

Some do it because they must have the newest game console on the market. They're hardcore gamers and collectors. Others plunk down the cash based purely on future excitement alone; i.e., nothing about the launch lineup or launch features is enough to entice them, but they know the future is rosy.

So, why did you spend your hard-earned money on the PlayStation 4? Supposedly, around 7 million people worldwide already own the next-gen console, so obviously, people wanted the thing. The question is, why? Is it just because you're a Sony fan (or a Microsoft hater)? Or, has PlayStation simply treated you very well in the past, and you're convinced that PlayStation will remain the brand for you in the new generation? Then again, maybe you bought the PS4 and the Xbox One because A. You had the money to do it, and B. You just wanted to have access to most every great game on the horizon.

There are many who are very meticulous about relatively big purchase decisions. So feel free to be as detailed as you like with your answer! Don't worry, we won't judge. 😉

My PS3 was about to die. The system slowly stopped playing games. At first I thought it was just the disc drive. I then learned the problem was worse. Now it plays nothing. This happened a couple days ago. Sadly TLoU sits unfinished at around 60% completion. It had me absorbed pretty dang good too.
I didn't want to pay $150+ for Sony to fix my PS3, nor did I want to pay $250 to buy a new one and 'used' was out of the question. It would only offset eventually getting a PS4.

I figured if I sold off my 360 and put it towards a PS4 then I could enter the new gen earlier than planned and this whole migration could just happen in a bittersweet sort of way =)

I'm sorry to hear about your PS3. I hope you eventually get another one when they're cheaper so you can finish your games.

That's the plan =)
I'm sorta hoping Sony announces some sort of legitimate feeling backwards compatibility function for the PS4. I also think many of the best PS3 games will just get re-released for PS4 anyway.

True that. Strange you mention it. I had just started Demon's Souls again to give the series one more shot at making me a fan.
I suppose I'll just have to get a PS3 again someday. Someday probably next year.

Similar thing happened to me, Temjin. I bought my PS4, and shortly thereafter my fat PS3 died. I couldn't bear to let all those games go, though, so I traded it in to gamestop with a handful of old games I had no love for whatsoever and picked up the $200 PS3 that looks like a George Foreman grill. plugged my 500 GB hard drive, got all my saves downloaded from the cloud, and it's like nothing changed! Interestingly, the PS3's controller feels MUCH better than the last one, I think they really tweaked the resistance in the sticks in later versions.

Anyway, what Limited said: PS3s will only get cheaper moving forward, you'll be able to pick one up at some point and you'll be good to go.

Wait. You traded in your broken console? They do that? If so, how much do they give roundabout?

…I was and still am excited to see all the upcoming games from Sony. Mainly Uncharted 4. I was super impressed with KZ and Knack right away. The physics in Knack are some of the best I've ever seen considering he's comprised of millions of pieces.

Thank you! I am glad someone out there also believes that Knack is impressive.

Glad you enjoyed them both, I haven't tried Knack but KZ:SF was a great game, great single player campaign.

How is the full Knack game different than the demo at store kiosks? It seemed really dull and nowhere near worth $60.

Put it in the hardest mode and it becomes a decent challenge 🙂

It has dull parts but I dont know I just loved playing through it.

Most of my ps3 friends I have made over the past 7 years were getting one and I liked the lineup on launch. To be honest I had it on preorder since it was announced… Now that its a few month old, I play my ps3 more since I'm totally Into learning the guitar and rocksmith is only on the ps3. However, all the shooters I have played surprised me on how good the graphics are. It's like playing on a current PC. I also play ffxiv and stopped when they announced it was being ported to the 4 for free. it is like night and day playing that on the 4. The draw distance looks almost infinite, I haven't seen any lag, and I don't have to use Skype or some other voice software to talk to my friends on it. Tomb Raider was also pretty awesome on the 4 too. Absolutely no regrets being an early adopter

Been playing Playstation since the first one, if its not broke dont fix it. Sure I had a nintendo and Sega before Sony but Sony was the first to put game son CD and had stuff that at the time looked like movies, that WASNT overly expensive or a $200 dollar add on to a console that was already $200 on nits own (before anyone says 3DO, Sega CD or Turbo Grafx CD) If Microsoft would have beaten Sony to it fist then Id be with MS

Simple: exclusives and the DS4. That controller is fantastic!

I've played KZ:SF and I:SS (working on 2nd playthrough) as well as AC4 and TR:DE. Looking very forward to The Show next month and Uncharted when it hits.

This is the first gen I'm having just one machine. No need for any others – especially now that it appears 3rd party stuff will run best on PS4.

Plus, did I mention I love the controller? It IS superb.

I love the DS4 too! Its got quite a lot of improvements while staying true toe the proven Dualshock brand. My favorite changes are the changed stick sensitivity, the triggers, the d pad, the ergonomics, and the new rumble motor. I however don't like the light, its sometimes cool but it feels pointless not being able to turn it off.

The DS4 is so much better than the PS3 controllers. I really like how it feels in my hands. My only beef (and it's a minor one, at that) is that I wish the control sticks were staggered like the 360/X1 sticks are.

Underdog15

I'm glad they aren't. I really dislike that staggering. I'm a man of symmetry inside and out! :p

Well, I could sit here and list a whole bunch of level headed reasons as to why I bought the PS4 over the XB1, or just in general, but I have to be honest with you guys, my answer is:

…..because I'm a Playstation fanboy.

My PS3 got a YLOD just before releasing the PS4 so I jumped in and preordered because I would eventually buy a PS4 anyway…

I still have some doubt if it wouldn't be better to have bought an new PS3

Because I was gonna get one anyway, and I had the spare cash so I said why not!

I actually just got mine today! Everything looks amazing, got all these new games and so far I've mostly played Fez! Waiting for Infamous in the mail though.

Basically for stuff to play on it through the drought then the inevitable classics will come naturally.

Was always going to get a PS4 because the PS line of consoles have been the best since the brand's inception. But, inFamous: Second Son releasing just a few months after launch was why I bought a PS4 early.

well lets see every game console i've every personally owned has been a playstation console, playstation 1 was the 1st console i ever played on so you cud say playstation has treated me well. and well like pyramid said "after 1,2 and 3 im gonna love 4" and i've always love sony 1st party games they've treat me well and they seem to know their auidience really well and give us the sorta games we'll enjoy and yeah that mostly summs up why i brought one cos playstation rocks and the sony games are great not much else i can say

theres "future excitement "
theres i'm "a Sony fan"
then there's " that PlayStation has simply treated you very well in the past, and you're convinced that PlayStation will remain the brand for you in the new generation"

i think that all sums it up pritty well

happy gaming =)
