Destiny is a very big deal for Bungie.
Therefore, it stands to reason that the upcoming beta test will be pretty huge as well. According to the developer's weekly update , the beta will be bigger than any public test Bungie has ever conducted before.
At the same time, Community Manager David Dague said it'll be big enough to provide invaluable feedback, but it won't spoil the whole game. Still, it's gonna be plenty huge:
"Ever served Bungie as a beta tester? This will be the biggest proving grounds we’ve ever opened up to you before we were go for final launch."
They revealed a few other interesting gameplay tidbits, too. For instance, we'll be able to recruit NPCs for certain missions, and weapons aren't limited to character class. Each character will have a specific progression, but all classes can use all weapons. Basically, they want to make sure it remains a shooter and not a role-playing game; turn it into the latter and you lose your target audience.
Destiny currently holds a September 9, 2014 launch date.

Yeah, wouldn't want it to accidentally get good.
I love your cynicism.
I feel it's my responsibility to fight this online gaming trend with my greatest asset: snarkiness.
I feel as though this is being pitched as an FPS RPG, but Bungie are standing there and going, "NO! It's not an RPG! It's an FPS because they're more popular!"
'Don't make no f**king sense, man.'
You can get beta by preordering.

such, such, such a freaking waste keeping this as a MMO!
bungie have always been so good at creating amazing characters and story, such a waste to restrict them to a online only experience.
was worried this might be another painfully boring RPG – but now Im really interested.
um we'll this sounds all well and gud and wud certainly hope u wudn't get the whole game in the beta that wud be weird
happy gaming =)
