Driveclub Coming Along Nicely, Will Be “Worth The Wait”

It's true that the game lost its director and we still don't have a release date.

But Sony fans needn't worry, as a SCEE spokesperson told Videogamer that development on the anticipated Driveclub is "going from strength to strength," and the recent staff changes do not affect the creative process:

"We have full confidence that the game will deliver on its PS4 promise to be the first truly socially connected racing title and we are very pleased and excited by the calibre of work from Evolution Studios.

The progress being made on the game is spectacular. So we're looking forward to sharing an update on development, release date, and videos of the game in action in the weeks to come. We thank you for your patience and assure you, it will be worth the wait."

Originally a PS4 launch game, Driveclub first got pushed into 2014, and then it had to be delayed even farther. Recently, we learned that Evolution had tried to implement Sony's new virtual reality tech, "Project Morpheus," but it just didn't work out . As for a new launch date, Sony would just say, "soon."

So despite it all, it's nice to hear the game is still coming along well. Cross your fingers!

So it didn't go completely back to the drawing board… hopefully that release date we get isn't too far away.

It probably did… back in November.

So they tried to implement the VR tech, so they delayed it. Got behind on other things and now have to play catch up… That's how I see this.

I really think we should forget the whole VR thing. Yoshida said it wasn't true at all. Sure he can just be saying things, but does it really matter when the game really has been well polished since it's last showing at E3 and TGS, in which they showed the "Alpha" version?

The delay was sudden and nearly at launch back in November. It just doesn't make sense for them to hold for months later for a feature that won't be used till next year or beyond.

VR seems like a waste of time and money.

They should focus on the game itself. That's what gamers truly want. Not a weak product on some expensive high tech virtual reality machine.

We shoud just use it as a mascot, the greatest car game of all time, but no we can't prove that because its not done yet. It's being secretly fixed with great polish in some secret programmers bunker somewhere. A new myth of a game in development.

I feel you, but cmon, it hasn't really been long enough to consider it a myth. It was due November, and we were all told that we wouldn't get it till at least Spring. For it to be a myth, it would have to be like Last Guardian. No word for years, or any sort of estimation on when we might expect it. Seriously, it's at least being talked about as did Watch Dogs, which suffered similar fate.

It's going to be tough to beat Project Cars, if the alphas are any indication.

No it hasn't been long but if they just keep it in development forever it can reach myth status instead of releasing alongside the tons of other car games and basically disappear to no fanfare.

Nice Lexus LFA in your display pic (seems to be from Gran Turismo 6). One of my personal favourites. 😉

He sounds like a used car salesman. Everything's spectacular, here's a couple generic catchphrases, now give me your money.

It makes me doubt that he actually has any knowledge of how the game is coming along.
