It's likely that Titanfall helped Xbox One sales, even though it's also available on the Xbox 360 and PC.

But what about inFamous: Second Son ? Remember, it's only launching for the PlayStation 4, so you absolutely need that platform in order to play it. The question is, will this week's release have a significant impact on sales of Sony's next-gen console?

It's hard to say. The game was one of the very first that was unveiled for the PS4 early last year. This means it was probably high atop most priority lists heading into the PS4 launch in the fall; hence, it can be argued that most people who want inFamous already have the system. Then again, with the relatively lackluster launch lineup, maybe a lot of gamers decided to hold off. After all, if they don't feel they need the PS4 for anything until Second Son , why drop the cash in November? Especially when it's the holiday season and that money could be better used elsewhere?

I suppose review scores will play a large role as well. Don't forget that while the first two inFamous games received good scores, neither exactly scored off the charts. For instance, inFamous 2 only holds an average Metascore of 83. That's not bad but it's hardly elite. This isn't like Uncharted or God of War , you know; inFamous has never really been a critic's darling. Second Son might be, though…

What do you think?

Probably a medium push. People who waited for an excuse to buy a PS4 now have it, Second Son has picked up all of Titanfall's excitement slack and is becoming huge on social media.

On the other hand, after Second Son there's a big drought and plenty more PS3 games coming so many will probably wait until there are more games to make the jump.

If DriveClub releases next month, that can extend the momentum from inFamous, if any. Everybody gotta have some kind of next gen racer and DriveClub is expected to look amazing at least.

Also, who knows what Sony will be presenting tomorrow?

DriveClub next month? More like December.

I don't see any indication that it should be that late. I hope you're not referring to the "back to the drawing boards" thing.

No, Second Son has more pre-orders than TLOU had pre-orders. SS pre-orders are -not- larger than TLOU sales.

Kiryu you say that Infamous has 6 million preorders? That's more than the PS4 sales. HAHA!

I don't think it will create a movement of PS4's. Rather a huge amount. I think the possible PS4 owners for this game are those that already own one.

It would probably make a bigger impact if there were actually ps4's available to buy. Still can be very difficult to find one.

My buddy just got a PS4 from Best Buy in Delaware on Sunday. He was also like the three person I saw get one when I was there.

I'm not convinced that Second Son will have a big impact on sales. Perhaps PS4 owners will pick up Second Son due to the drought of other games, but will non-PS4 owners pick up the system for it? While Infamous is a respectable series, I just don't think it holds that kind of clout.

Not that any of that matters really. Considering the PS4 is still sold out everywhere, how many more systems can it sell?

Second Son itself is doing quite well in the media spotlight right now, gotta take that into account.

True. And I hope they keep it in the spotlight. I hope it scores well and sells even better.

So far, I've seen 4 different commercials for it within the last couple of weeks(although one's just an extended version of another).

My favorite commercial is where the alarm suddenly sounds off in the baddies barracks.
And as they race to the scene, there's numerous wise-a$$ gloats & taunts written everywhere along their route, such as the words "WARMER" written on a bunch of car windshields as they close in, & finally ending up with a "YOU ARE HERE" bull's-eye.

So…..at least the word of SS has been getting out to the masses.

I think there will be an uptick in sales. More so if it scores 9 or higher and becomes a must have next gen title.

If anything, it might justify purchases already made. It isn't the brand name to push consoles, though.

With proper advertising, I think the PS4 will see a small bump, but I think that most of the people waiting for SS will already have a PS4. It would persuade me to get one, but I'm watching my savings dwindle at an alarming rate D:

it is the title allot of people are waiting for, but after it theres really nothing releasing this year thats been penciled in, so its hard to say.
people will say ah this looks so awesome but after that, then what?
the question is will you get enough value out of it to warrant the 550 dollar purchase, plus 100 bucks for the game, plus extra because you will be tempted into accessories, guides, ect.

It ought to, this is a big PlayStation calling card… But it this way… what else does the PS4 have going for it?

I've never been fond of Infamous myself, I can appreciate it but it is not for me. But there really is no other Playstation 4 exclusive which is making the console seem worthwhile – mainly due to the rise of multi-platform releases by 3rd part developers last year. The only one I can think of is The Order 1886 but who knows when that is coming out and Drive Club… at a stretch… There is still nothing that really grips me with next gen, I'll be content with playing Final Fantasy X & X-2 in HD instead 🙂

Me as well for the more part.

I bought PS3 at launch, and I spent the first few months playing FFXII. lol. I'll be holding out for a while this time around.

Same, well I didn't buy a PS2 until late 2007. But in the mean time I had Final Fantasy XII, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subs, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition & Kingdom hearts II to plow through – I think I bought them all on one day 😛

God I regret so badly getting a ps4. All they seem to do is HD remakes and buggy games. The Wii U is better in terms of games right now, and that is just plain sad. To be honest, it is not even close.

The ps3 is THE system for games right now, imo. I am having more fun with my Vita and Toukiden than the PS4.

Wii U has also been out over a year too! Compared to 4 or 5 months for the ps4… Come on that logic is flawed. Also what did the Wii U have in it's first 5 months. Probably the same exact thing, one great game. If you regret it so bad then sell it! i'm sure you could get a pretty penny for it since they are so hard to find.

Underdog15
Underdog15

Yeah, but the PS4 has more games than the PS5, so there.

Anyways, what eezzy said. The games difference will change. PS4 has already outsold the WiiU in just 4 months despite the WiiU being out for a year. And the PS4 is getting closer to double what the XB1 has sold. The games will come. And soon.

Buying a console outright is more of a investment in future fun. You know the games you want to play are going to come, and now you are ready for them.

I wouldn't want to wait on buying a new console after 5 games that I really want to play are already out. That would be an immediate 4 games in my ever increasing backlog.

I think INFAMOUS is a so-so attraction, regardless of how good the game is. Personally, it looks pretty good, but the dialog is pretty cheesy…but most dialog sounds cheesy to me in most games.

Remember it's a fantastical superhero adventure, it wouldn't be the same kind of creation if it aimed for realistic dialogue/drama like The Last of Us.

i guess i'm the only one who'll think this game will score really well! LOL. i think it will get at least a 9. No matter where i look… Any hands on previews sing praise of the game and how awesome it is. I just have a feeling this one is going to surprise a bunch of people.

Fabi

I know, I've noticed that too. But games like inFamous don't usually score in the 90's, and sadly in the metacritic age, fanboys will consider anything under 90 a failure for an exclusive.

Quite often Previews are extremely misleading. Most recently look back at all the lords of shadow 2 and Thief previews.

Is there going to be a infamous bundle like the titanfall bundle? With the titanfall bundle, you get the game for free, so I expect that to help MS a lot. If inFamous has the same thing, then it should definitely have some impact.

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

I doubt it, MS needs to invest in Titanfall to sell it's consoles so that game has been free or reduced everywhere. It's survival is paramount to MS.

Sony doesn't need inFamous to sell consoles so there's no reason to give it away for free and every reason to try to profit on the front end.

daus26

Well, I don't necessarily mean free. I meant at least some sort of discount, like for $450.

I admit, I should've worded my post much differently.
