So there's all this eager talk about Sony possibly unveiling the PlayStation 4 on February 20 .
But although I'd be excited about it, I'd hate to see this announcement have a negative effect on the anticipation of upcoming PS3 games. Often, we're so quick to jump ahead to something new that we don't pay the current (or near-current) headlines enough attention.
If Sony does formally reveal the PS4 in three weeks time, I get this feeling that very important PS3 exclusives will suddenly take a back seat to all the new console hoopla. Games like The Last Of Us , Beyond: Two Souls , and even God of War: Ascension (which is set to launch in March) might get less hype and as a direct result, sales could be hindered. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of a new console announcement, as everyone is more than willing to discuss everything from the specs to the proposed price to the possible software launch lineup.
However, a PS4 unveiling would absolutely dominate headlines for quite a while, and might even do so for most of 2013, which I think would do a potential disservice to upcoming titles. I could be wrong, but I've often found that even the biggest games can fall under the shadow of new hardware, and I'd rather not have that happen, you know?
