Uh…is this even possible?

According to what Sony Computer Entertainment UK product manager Josh Walker told MCV , the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, inFamous: Second Son , has received more pre-orders than last year's PS3 exclusive, The Last Of Us .

Walker said the hotly anticipated sequel from Sucker Punch is "benefiting from the goodwill and buzz surrounding the PlayStation 4" and they fully expect Second Son to be the biggest game in the series thus far. Okay, that makes sense, I suppose. But I mean, TLoU launched just last year, at about the time when the installed PS3 userbase was around 70 million or so. The PS4 userbase is only at 6 million. How could Second Son possibly have earned more pre-orders…?

Sure, we're only talking about the UK region, but even so, it seems weird. TLoU sold 3.4 million copies in less than a month and granted, not all those sales were pre-orders, but Second Son has no hope of coming close to that number. If it did, it would mean well over half the people who own a PS4 bought the game, and that just doesn't seem feasible.

Obviously, I'm missing something here. But anyway, it's great to hear that inFamous: Second Son is such a hot item. It's slated to arrive on March 21 in North America and we can't wait!

That's 6 million people with no games yet but shiny new consoles looking for something truly next gen to come out. I may get around to picking this up at some point though it's not high on my list of games coming up. But I can definitely understand these pre-order figures as people will buy anything now just to justify their new console purchase. I'm sure Infamous will be a quality game, what I'm saying is that people who wouldn't even normally have a game like Infamous on their radar do now just because there's not a lot of games out to play right now.

I think this is due to advertisement being ALL OVER the internet! I can't go to a site without seeing it and it's getting people hyped and excited!

well this is great but yeah like when killzone sold to about 50% of the consoles so if this is the same for infamous at 50% about 3mil+ units which isn't i guess impossible considering the situation atm yeah there ain't really any other games yet for the ps4 which also plays into it so well i guess we'll see when the numbers come in how accurate this is.

happy gaming =)

you do realise that theres allot of people waiting for ss to release till they buy a system right?
and $ony just released a massive stock release of units a few days ago so finally stores have enough stock for even off the shelf purchases.
by the time this releases theres going to be allot more than 6M units out there, so having 3M ss copies sold is not that outlandish.

Look at how many copies Shadow Fall sold if you're looking for a yardstick to measure this by. Killzone managed an attach rate of nearly 50% and that wasn't an especially big franchise; it had it's fans but it wasn't a system seller. Second Son is the first big game to release exclusively for PS4 since November. When The Last of Us came out, the PS3 had a large library to choose from so the people who bought it did so for a reason other than "I need something to play on this thing". If you add up the gamers who liked Infamous and the rest who might be inclined to take a chance on it then that could turn out to be a respectable number.
