Ready for a next-gen Batman ?

Well, it'll be on the cover of the April issue of Game Informer , so you can learn all about it soon. For now, we know it's called Batman: Arkham Knight , it's coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2014, and Rocksteady is back at the helm.

Yep, the developers that produced Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are back, which is good news because last year's Origins (developed by an internal Warner Bros. team) wasn't quite as amazing as its predecessors. Arkham Knight will feature an even larger Gotham City, players will be able to drive the Batmobile, and Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow are confirmed adversaries for the Caped Crusader. However, bear in mind that this is the ultimate climax, as Rocksteady co-founder Sefton Hill said in an interview:

"We kind of feel like this is the natural end to the story. We want to kind of go out in style."

I sorta hoped Rocksteady would resurrect Superman, or something. Maybe they'll tackle that when the Batman story arc is complete.

omg YES!

I loved AA and AC, didn't bother with the third installment because Rocksteady were absent.

Now I am very hopeful for this series.

That's discrimination right there.

Ya but it was wise discrimination

Well now Origins makes a lot more sense, Rocksteady wanted to do a next gen game and WB wanted an end of the generation cash grab. Not that Origins was awful or anything, it just didn't fit into the series quality wise.

I've tried but I just can't get into this series.

Really? Not even Arkham City?

Really???? AA & AC are two of the best video games I've ever played. AC might be my favorite ever – it's really that good. If you like tight controls that make for superb game play – these games are for you.

Haven't gotten to AO yet – but I will.

This being next gen only – awesome! I also bet it helps move a LOT of next gen systems.

Just FYI – there's an awesome trailer floating around other PS sites as well. It's pretty good – got me psyched!

Nope, not even AC. Believe me, I understand they're great games. I just can't get into the fighting. I feel like everyone's eating at a fancy restaurant with perfect reviews and nothing I try on the menu satisfies me.

And now you know how I feel every time anyone mentions the uncharted series.

@LV

That's very fair. We all dig what we dig. That's one of the things I love about gamers. We can all love something different but still all love gaming. A game like The Last of Us – I can appreciate that it's definitely spectacular – just not my cup of tea.

AC, AA and Origins in this order. Boss battles Origins, AA and AC in this order. Truly an amazing series. Great to read that the last gen is left out so they can focus on the current gen and create a true masterpiece. I am hoping for Origin's Boss battle difficulty. They really nailed it! Batman Arkham Knight on PS4 with VRP!! All is right in the world!

My son just traded in his PS3 for a PS4 (sheesh, it took forever to find one for him) and he is going to be ecstatic over this news.

I will have to borrow his copy when he isn't playing it. 😉

You're like my Dad, I noticed a while ago that every time he bought me a game it happened to be the one he really wanted to play…haha

Too soon… I know that Origins was done by another team and that this is on new gen, but a year? This ain't CoD. Eh, probably won't be getting it anyway. I acknowledge that Asylum was a good game, but it didn't really gel with me for reasons unknown.

Arkham City came out in 2011, So it's been 3 years approx.

This I know. But Origins came out last year. So, it's been one year, approximately. Origins was still part of the Arkham series, so I don't give a diddly that City was Rocksteady's last title. This is the practice of CoD and AC, and there's enough of that to go around with just those two games.

I don't know that I would want it based on the fact that there are STILL progression blocking bugs in Arkham Origins that Warner Brothers may not ever resolve. They know what the problems are (their statement last month mentioned that gamers had listed concerns on the forums) but they chose to leave them be and work on paid DLC. If they're not willing to properly support their product, then why would I support them by buying Arkham Knight?

sweet, we FINALLY get to drive the most iconic car of all time!
bout f*cking time!
i hope this is a mix of all 3.
AA nailed the stealth and AI so well, it was so much fun to play cat and mouse with the enemies, AC just did not let you do that nor did origins.
AC had more enemy variety and added the awesome world to roam around in, it was allot of fun stoping crimes in progress reminded me of the best comic book game ever spiderman 2.
origins was great because you actually felt like the worlds greatest detective, analysing crime scenes and piecing together what happened was the best part of the game!
especially finding out who killed harvey, certainly did not see that one coming!

but most of all, PLEASE, bring back the cat and mouse stealth gameplay!
it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun droping down and setting a explosive trap, than throwing a batawrang to lure a guard towards it, than BOOM!
but city or origins if you threw a batawrang enemies magically used their telepathy powers and knew exactly where you are and started shooting you.
NOT FUN!
REALLY starting to get sick of this magical AI in games……….
