At the start of the previous generation, nobody had ever heard of Uncharted .
It is now one of the most widely acclaimed, respected and beloved franchises in all of video game history. Yes, Naughty Dog created quite the juggernaut with Uncharted , which is arguably the finest active IP in the industry.
With each new PlayStation generation, it seems we get several great new franchises. Sure, we're getting Uncharted 4 for the PS4 at some point, but what about new titles like The Order: 1886 ? Given the amount of potential this game has, could it be the Uncharted for a new generation? In six or seven years time, will we be viewing Ready at Dawn's IP as one of the most accomplished franchises around? Perhaps it would help if you checked out all the recent media .
Sony's first-party studios specialize in producing top-tier exclusive productions. It's not just about Uncharted ; there's Killzone , Ratchet & Clank , inFamous , Gran Turismo , God of War and more. For some reason, new installments in each of these franchises often seem to be a cut above the competition. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that The Order will aspire to similar heights, correct? And if the developers do make good on their lofty promises, I see no reason why Uncharted could have some competition in due time…
Related Game(s): The Order: 1886
I have my reservations about that. But it is shaping up nicely. I am hoping this doesn't have the same type of outcome that Resistance had. It to was supposed to be a long running, Halo competitive franchise. Resistance Fall of Man can stand with the best shooters but 2 and 3 were not quite up to that standard even though 3 is arguably better than 2.
I'm hoping this is the Playstations Gears of War. I'm not saying I hope it's like GoW I'm just speaking in terms of popularity.

Hate to say it but I don't see this game getting the best reviews. The graphics look stunning but they've been rather shy about revealing much about the gameplay. I hope I'm wrong and I've enjoyed their previous work but nothing they've done has ever been on this level.
Ben can you possibly implement a feature that shows who gives the thumbs up/down?
Too many cowards around here that seldom give their 2cents.
Personally, I suspect that The Order: 1886 will receive an average review score of 85. So, not necessarily bad, but not a world-class game, either. (though, I suspect PSXE will give it at least a 90, and IGN about an 87)
That's just my own humble prediction.
I don't really think it's necessary. Don't want drama, anyway.
Better than Uncharted
Do I have permission to bring this comment of yours up a few years from now?
Do you have some problem with my comments?
Yes, I think you will be proven wrong and I want to remind you of it.
LV, not that I agree with their comment, but we don't know about how good or bad this game is yet, unless you have a time machine I can borrow.
Well things change, people change as time goes by
I know we don't. That's why I think it's ridiculous to say this will be better than the Uncharted series
LV, I'm so glad you're back. lol!
First of all, people who are bashing this game are being plain ignorant. We haven't received much to even give a definitive opinion and no one has played it yet. I'm looking forward to this new IP just as much as we all gave The Last of Us a fair chance. It's a risk devs must take, but at least it's something different from all the crappy sequels we keep getting.
I completely agree. Can't wait to see more of the combat ,these guys know god of war. Ru weerasuriya said that there is another combat system they will unveil later.
The Last of Us was developed by ND so I don't see this being the same scenario…
But I do agree that people shouldn't bash a game they know so little about. Though I do find it a bit concerning that there hasn't been much revealed about the game thus far.

Oh that video?! The one that's on every gaming website?! The one I've seen several times already since the hour it was put on the internet?!
Listen, I get it. You want this game to be amazing. I do too but if you think that video shows enough for you to proclaim it as fact than you're wrong. That video is far too short and a majority of it isn't even gameplay.
So little of this game has been shown that I'm curious as to why it's even a point of discussion as to whether it will be better than Uncharted. Uncharted is proven, timeless ownage. Uncharted 2 will go down as a classic in the same vein as Halo and Half Life 2 and Metal Gear Solid, when all is said and done.
Has anything about The Order been revealed that even hints it has the same potential?
Great post, you've said it better than I have. For a game that supposedly is being released this year there's hardly any gameplay footage thus far, that concerns me.

The point of the article, I believe, is that Uncharted being a new IP, became one of Sony's great. At the time it had nothing but to prove itself. The Order 1886 is as new as any new IP as did Uncharted. From what I'm trying to understand, this game has the potential to be as good as Uncharted, not necessarily "better."
To quote, "In six or seven years time, will we be viewing Ready at Dawn's IP as one of the most accomplished franchises around?"
I don't understand all this talk about this game being better than Uncharted as is. If anything, I'll be agreeing that it has the potential to be at least as good, from the production quality and media attention. Every new IP starts from somewhere and only a few gets special attention.
Reply my reaction?
how was your reaction for the gameplay?
Go easy on Kiryu. English isn't his first language. At least I don't think it is, with the way he keeps extolling on the greatness of Japanese VO…
110 on my Toefl exam buddy
Mayhaps, but some of the stuff you write on here is borderline nonsensical due to that language barrier. Or at least I hope it's the language barrier…
Although I will admit that your English language skills seem to have improved over time.

Improved over time?
Do you always check for grammatical mistakes in the comments I write?
haha this is soo funny
Last edited by Kiryu on 2/20/2014 4:11:28 AM
No, but I always spot grammatical errors as a matter of course. Something in my head causes me to do it when I'm reading anything. You'll notice how I'll usually pop up a message to Ben if I see something wrong in his articles, so it's not just you. And your posts stick out like a sore thumb. Don't think I'm stalking you or anything >.>
@Lawless
You didn't spot this though 😉
"I see no reason why Uncharted could have some competition"
@Ben That should be "couldn't" 😉
Lawless,
I love your posts the last few days.
Kiryu,
You're pretty damn good at the whole English thing. But not great 🙂
*shakes fist* 'DAMN YOU, NEO!'
Good spot. Makes me look a bit like a knob…
@LV,
Thanks, trying to be a bit more active here than I have been in a long time. Glad to know someone appreciates it. 🙂

i'm feeling pritty gud about this game it definately has alot of potential and i'm pritty excited to see what it has to offer to the ps4 and sonys playstation only games
happy gaming =)
probably. yeah, its certainly more cinematic!
looks allot more like gears than uncharted though.
theres a little hint at supernatural monsters towards the end of the new trailer too, really hope this comes to be a slight horror theme to it.
afterall it is set in the perfect era for that.
I hope so, but I don't think so. The game has a great premise, great graphics and a lot of people were really impressed by the gameplay video that dropped yesterday, as well as some of the info that's come out over the past week. But I just don't know.
I think that Uncharted was so successful because it brought that sense of levity and freedom and I don't think that The Order is going to match it, even with its new-ish approach to QTEs and importance on cinematic veneer. To me, the nature of The Order doesn't outline itself as something that is capable of defining a generation in the same way that Uncharted did – at least not in this first iteration.
Will it be good? Definitely. Great? Likely. But as impactful as Uncharted? No. I don't believe so.
The Order:1886 will be the next great new ip from Sony Computer Entertainment

I'm going to go with "good", not great.
(Well there's way to little to go on at the moment….)
I doubt it highly and was quite disappointed with the gameplay trailer. Visually it's stunning but after these boasts of "welcome to new gen" I was hoping we'd get more than just third person shooting mechanics.
I don't have anything against those mechanics or their use in the game. I expect them to be there and be done well (what we saw looked fine).
Only they should have been ready to show something more, with the expectations that have been built up, if they were going to show anything at all.
No it probably won't be this game, but maybe their next one. Cheers to me being wrong and I'm still stoked to see what they have for E3.
