These install sizes are pretty freakin' huge in the new generation.
According to the official European box sleeve, as posted in the PlayStation forums , the upcoming PS4 exclusive, inFamous: Second Son , will require a 24GB install.
If you remember, the launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall hit a whopping 39.7GB so Second Son is actually small in comparison. Don't forget two things, though: Firstly, thanks to the PS4's new PlayGo system, you can start playing a game well before the installation is complete. Second, because you can play relatively soon, deleting the install data isn't as much of an issue. The game will just do what it did before; install as you play. Made Shadow Fall 's 39.7GB seem almost nonexistent.
But you still need to know how much available space is on your hard drive, right? The PlayStation 4 contains a 500GB hard drive, which is upgradeable.

Considering Infamous is open world, that's surprisingly a significant difference between Killzone and Infamous.
Well I am not on the PS4 as of yet, but it is a hassle to install large games. That said though the feature in place to play as it installs more than compensates as the wait time is negligble.
Still, you are dealing with large installs and on top of things the world changing to Digital games.
Glad we are still able to purchase discs.
Keep playing!
Are you able to install the game well before the release date? If this is possible than I don't have a problem with the size of the install file.
Is this the size of the download or the install off the disc?
They should be the same, minus any patches. The entire game installs on the harddrive.
Thanks for the explanation. I see myself mostly going digital this generation of gaming.
The only difference between physical and digital game copies I have noticed is that I can play off the disc while the install goes on in the background, and the games I have gotten the digital copy of (Tomb Raider, Knack, AC: Black Flag) I had to wait for the entire game to download. The system said it was ready to play at a few GB, but I still couldn't do anything and it just took me to the progress bar instead of into the game.
Doesn't bother me too much as I just download the games in the middle of the night and play when I have the time.
That's ok. The download version of The Last of Us takes up 27GB, so this doesn't really surprise me much, lol.
Having PS Plus, Uncharted 3 single player is well over 35gb I believe. There must be some compression magic going on.
Yakuza Ishin coming out on 22nd can't stop thinking about it.Going to be only playing Yakuza Ishin this next month.

That's pretty small actually. Makes me worry about the game.
I was beginning to think I was the only one. I'm not worried in the sense that the game is going to fail, but why so low compared to previous gen and even games like CoD. Is it really 24gb, the ENTIRE game? I don't understand.
Hopefully Sucker Punch are just efficient coders.
I don't see what the file size matters. Wasn't ACIV 21GB with a pretty large open-world?
More details, bigger worlds, require more resources, thus more data. Ever downloaded a 1080p video versus a 720p? Regardless of the compression, 1080p should always be a bigger file if compression is treated equally as 720p. Compression can be compared to efficient coding as World put it. If you've ever recorded video with a camcorder, the raw file is always huge, but with good encoding, the file can be much smaller but retain matched quality.
ACIV may be 21GB, but infamous looks much more detailed so I expect it to be bigger. Anything smaller wouldn't make sense, unless the world in infamous is much smaller.
Also, obviously the amount of cutscenes in the game matter too. Shadowfall, to be over 15gb larger, probably has much more cutscenes than Infamous.
Not too bad at all.
So, is Sony planning to release a 1 terabyte PS4 in the near future? They should…
That would be magic.
500GB && PS+ != good..
Great attitude Ben! It's true the PS4's PlayGo system makes the PS4 500GB drive size work.
I am surprised ISS only 24GB. Maybe because it's all in one city. Instead of Killzone SF there are many, many different maps. Curious though. I can guarantee you they didn't skimp on textures, that's for sure.
I get the feeling the first thing I'm gonna have to do when I get a PS4 is upgrade the HDD
Upgradeable HDDs lessen the burden, but both Sony and MS screwed the pooch when it came to HDD space. 500GB is entirely too small, and it's not like including at least 1TB would hurt production costs. HDDs are insanely cheap even on an individual consumer level. For bulk processing they are probably cheap as hell.
Still, that you can upgrade the HDD in the PS4 is one more reason why it's a better choice.
exactly why both systems should of come with a bigger HDD, i mean come on i can buy a 1TB HDD for like 60 bucks!
so what does one of the largest electronic companies get them for?
500GBs, when every single game is over 20GBs, and requires a full install, is just stupidity!
Business is not that simple lol.
I'll probably still have to upgrade the hd later on, but now I'm just glad I didn't get shadow fall.
How many people bought that 20 or 40 GB PS3 and thought, "eh… it'll be enough, I'm sure."
