Man, this keeps happening.

It seems like every major multiplatform release favors the PlayStation 4 somehow, whether it's a better resolution or frames per second rating.

Watch Dogs , Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition , Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes ; reportedly, they all have the edge on PS4. Now, you can add the upcoming Thief reboot to the list.

It was revealed to Eurogamer that Thief on PS4 will boast full 1080p high-definition resolution, while the Xbox One version will produce 900p. However, that's not a super huge difference, as director Nicolas Cantin reminded us. "You really need good eyes to see the difference," he said. That's probably true. But it's just another slightly under-performing Xbox One version, is it not?

Remember when the PS3 launched and most multiplatform titles were better on the Xbox 360? Seems like the sales number isn't the only thing that's been reversed this generation…

Yeah that's yet another game Xbone can't handle. I've had Lasik surgery so I've got the best eyes money can buy and yes I can spot the differences even with this so called "human eye can't tell the difference" nonsense.

When you watch 1080p and almost nothing else, even the slightest variation is noticeable.

I still remember when I got my first 1080p tv and I had so many friends and family members telling me they couldn't tell the difference between it and standard definition tv's. It's the same thing, the difference might not be as drastic, but it's still there.

I doubt you can tell the difference between 1080 and 900 unless someone told you. I know this is just further proof that Sony got it right this generation (hardware wise) with the PS4 but it isn't a noticeable difference.

You can definitely tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. Even streamed 1080p vs a blu-ray (it's all about bit-rate on that one). The differences are apparent.

Not sure about 900p vs 1080p since I don't think I've seen 900p content on my TV.

I'm sure about 900vs1080, it isn't noticeable.

It's not just about the resolution. You also have to factor in the screen size and viewing distance.

I definitely notice the difference between 900 and 1080p on mine and my friends laptops. First time I saw his I asked why does yours look better? Since we had the same model number any everything.

Also can't hardly stand 720p on my TV. Idk about 900p but 720p there is a large jump.

These games aren't going to be played on 19inch screens from 2 feet away. And I still say you can't tell the difference unless you're looking for it and even then it's minimal to the point of not mattering.

Actually the bigger the screen the more noticeable it will be and on my 55" tv I can tell.

I do have perfect vision, but seriously on a smaller screen I agree no one would notice.

My mother said the same thing about SD and HD. I noticed the difference immediately between games, tv and movies. I notice the difference when I switch back and forth between the PS3 and PS4. You may not be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 900p, but it is the principle since both consoles should display in 1080p consistently by default.

Console games are getting with the HD programs? pfft filthy peasants. Console games vs PC games is the equivalent of Netflix HD vs Blu-ray. That's right I said it. Come at me.

Standard definition is below 480p so I'd like to think you can tell the difference between 480p and 1080p. That's a far greater difference of quality than 900pvs1080p.

LOL! Confusing screen resolution with texture resolution. PGNZ, you're way off base if you think that we're talking about the difference between the PS3/360 and PS4/XBO.

Lawless SXE

Not dissing you, Ben because it's being reported everywhere, but how long is this sort of thing going to continue being news? It's pretty well established that the XBO doesn't have the muscle of the PS4, so why does the gaming media feel the need to continually reiterate the fact? At this point I'd be more interested in hearing about a game that is at parity between the two platforms.

gotta love it how the 360 ports ran better last gen, so that was of course proclaimed by the fanboys, or should i say morons, because the ps3 was so much harder to develop for.
but now all of a sudden that rule has gone out the window, and now it does not mean that but it means something totally different.
gotta love how rules change depending on who it suits………..
thats fanboy logic for ya!

That's because PS3 exclusives blew the crap out of anything on the Xbox360. That indicated the power was there to be had and there was significantly more power in the PS3. The only time the PS3 struggled was with some, not all, multi-platform titles. This will not be the case for the Xbox One. The PS4 will have better exclusives and better multi-platform titles.

rubbish!
most games were like that because they were running on old xbox engines, halo for instance never got a engine built specifically for the 360 till halo 4 came out!
the reason is simple, double standard fanboys.

Evil Incarnate

What a crap excuse! I expect nothing less from a Microsoft fanboy. Halo 4 doesn't compare to any high profile PS3 exclusive, so you just debunked your own argument.

Evil Incarnate
Evil Incarnate

If the Xbox One has better performing exclusives and worse performing multi-platorm titles I will concede that the Xbox One has more potential. I don't see that happening since the PS4 is better on paper and so far in performance. So, no double standard here. I know you struggle with being a butthurt MS fanboy. You can get help for that by dialing MSButthurt(692-888-4878) on your phone.

Welcome to xbot helper, please choose your excuse;

A-) Cloud will make it better.
B-) New patch will make it better.
C-) New SDK will make it easier to develop games running at 1080p.
D-) ESRAM will be utilized soon.
E-) I don't care about graphics, gameplay is more important.
F-) Who cares, we have Titanfall.
G-) I don't see any difference.

Not sure its a big deal for me. I mean people on the Sony side are starying to sound like the Xbox fans of last gen.

I mean if your system can do it great, but just wondered if it really matters to us that much. Well, at this scale anyway. I am sure we could see the diff if we did a side-by-side comparison, but not sure it will affect gameplay much.

Regardless, good to know devs are utilizing the capabilities of the PS4 early this gen. I am certain things will only get better as the games start to come out.

Keep playing!

I agree with what you've said. But I do see it as a sign of Sony getting it right this generation. The PS4 is definitely easier to develop for than the PS3. Which will in turn give them the edge with multiplatforms and that's a good thing. But I do agree this whole dick comparing scene gets old fast.

Persona 5 will have great visuals and it's on the PS3 by the way. Persona 4 had great visuals on the PS2.
NO need for more multiplatform development, Exclusives are coming now from 3rd parties.

On the list of reasons why Xbox One isn't a very appealing choice this is, like, reason #47. It's a non-issue unless you're so invested in a particular platform that you need to feel vindicated by every little difference that goes in your favor.

Either way, both these consoles barely meet mid-range PC specs right out the gate, and both will look laughably inferior when the next round of GPUs come out, so claiming a second place victory in the graphics race for Sony isn't as meaningful as some might imagine it is.

What's more important for PS4 is that it's a much better bang for your buck since it's $100 cheaper and technically (if minimally) more powerful, has way better exclusives than Microsoft, whose first party content was never that strong and is only getting worse as Forza, Halo and Gears become worn out and tired, and that PS Plus is currently a much, much better deal than Xbox Live.

Heck, the only reason you need to declare Sony the obvious console choice is to point out that Sony has Naughty Dog, and Microsoft doesn't. Boom, headshot, game over.

If you're gonna play the system wars you gotta pick your battles, people 🙂
