Destiny To Be The “Best-Selling New IP” In Gaming History?

Activision is talking.

First, they say this year's Call of Duty (in development at new studio Sledgehammer Games) could be the best CoD game ever created."

Now, they're hyping up Destiny , the impending multiplayer-oriented shooter from Halo developer, Bungie. During a post-earnings financial call, Activision Blizzard bosses Bobby Kotick (CEO) and Eric Hirshberg (CEO of Activision Publishing) said they expect the anticipated next-gen title to be the "best selling new video game IP in history." Wow, really?

The way that's phrased, it sounds like they're referring to any new game that kicked off a franchise. This would include the likes of Super Mario Bros. and Final Fantasy , for crying out loud. Maybe it has a chance at being the top new IP of 2014 (in fact, looking at the release list for this year, it probably will be) but the best-selling new IP in history ? Are people still that enamored with shooters? Well, I suppose they are.

Let's not forget that Destiny is probably going to receive some serious advertising assistance. The game is going to be absolutely everywhere later this summer.

Borderlands was such a great game. It was a great multiplayer badassery type of game. Having voice chat in the game was awesome as well. Finding loot all over the place and the huge variety of weapons was insane.

I am excited for Destiny. Let's hope it is not everrated.

is that the game where you shoot something in the face with a sniper rifle & it doesn't die ?

Conceptually, this is my kind of game for sure. Co-op, exploration, abandoned/destroyed technology from a more gilded age, fantasy-tinged science fiction… that's all great. If they nail the gameplay this could indeed be huge. I'm worried it will feel like a generic FPS, but hopefully they will find a way to give it some "friction" — the old Halo games felt too floaty and slick. I'm hopeful this one will pack some punch (hope that description makes sense.)

This game is on my list to buy for sure because i believe Bungie can make this a great game. Really the co-op part sounds awesome and the environments that I've seen look great too; can't wait.

Not having a monthly bill will help it.

Forgot about that — here's hoping they prove to the world that subscriptions hurt sales/revenue more than they help.

i'd prefer a 3d person perspective & it to be set in the ice age instead of the usual space crud.

I surely do hope, being under Activision and all, that there won't be stupid amounts of DLC for it. Looked at the store a few days ago and on SALE, CoD ghosts was 100$. What the hell.

Also, it looks pretty good. A little worried about Activision running thr show behind Bungie though.

Bungie is a respected name. So Destiny probably WILL sell well.

Titanfall would also probably have done much better if it had also been on the PS4. EA must really be kicking themselves for betting on the wrong horse and granting MS exclusive on the first Titanfall.

oH SO NOW I WILL BE THE BEST SELLING new ip. At first they said the best selling IP. How about they just worry about the game being good and living up to the hype instead of sales? I won't be buying the game either way, but it looks good.

Oh, geez, I hope not. I'm sure it will be a good game, but if a multiplayer-oriented FPS is the highest selling new IP of this year I will be gutted. Especially with things like Watch Dogs, The Order, Murdered, Quantum Break, The Evil Within and Sunset Overdrive coming out. But then, Activision is going to have Destiny absolutely everywhere.

Best new IP in history? Didn't Wii Fit sell like 80 million units?

can anything live up to the hype that they are generating for it?

I'm not interested in buying this game at all. I didn't enjoy any of the Halo games, and just knowing it's being made by bungie is putting me off no end. I just can't shake the feeling that it's going to be the 'new Halo' for this gen

for the year probably, for the generation thats a stretch, but best selling new IP in HISTORY!?
yea, good luck with that!
one reason why 99% of games these days end up being massive disappointments, there so overhyped!
everythings ZOMFG this is the return of jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
then it ends up being crapola.
sigh.
can we PLEASE go back to the good old days where games sold themselves, and not morons in suits?
