Rayman Legends Takes Advantage Of Next-Gen Power

Next-gen versions of games released for the "old" consoles should be significantly upgraded, wouldn't you agree?

Thankfully, Ubisoft is definitely taking advantage of the new hardware's advanced capabilities when it comes to Rayman Legends . Last year's acclaimed platformer launches in North America for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 18 (February 20 in Europe). The NA date is a week earlier than what the publisher previously announced.

As reported by GameSpot , the glossier Legends will offer "numerous features and content not found in the otehr versions." This includes playable characters inspired by popular Ubisoft franchises ( Assassin's Creed , Far Cry and Splinter Cell ), sharper visuals, and greatly lessened loading times. Said lead designer Emile Morel:

"Jumping in and out of a level has never been faster and it's a great feeling to have such a seamless experience. Navigating in the game now feels smoother and your gaming experience is never stopped by loading transitions."

The PS4 version will utilize the Dual Shock 4's touchpad to enable an all-new Camera Mode that lets players snap in-game screenshots and share them with friends. The touchpad is also used to virtually "scratch" in-game tickets and lastly, the PS4 iteration supports Remote Play. If you play it on Xbox One, you'll have the opportunity to earn 10 time-limited achievements by completing a set of challenges in a set amount of time (one week).

Obviously, if you missed out on Rayman Legends last year, February's the time to play catch-up with either your PS4 or Xbox One.

I'm a sucker for better versions of games, but I think I'll pass (or buy it when it's significantly cheaper) on new skins and faster loading times. I'm getting the new Tomb Raider, but at least that's an upgrade to my PS3 version. The PS3 version of Rayman Legends was already in 1080p, and I doubt this is going to look or feel any better when playing.

Finally, a game for my new PS4 that my kids are going to die for! They got LEGO Marvel Superheroes for Xmas on PS3 (I had no PS4 until two days ago). They are big Rayman fans and I have been holding off on Legends hoping the PS4 version might be tweaked a little.

This for them and Thief the following week for me – I guess February doesn't have to be ALL bad in Minnesota!

My PS3 Broke down on the same week this game came out. This is the kind of games i love, and for me is the perfect reason to buy the PS4

no thanks.
no matter how improved it is, this is just like TR, no where near worth the price!
not the best game to port over either, this is one of those games thats so much fun, so beautiful, so creative, but is just far too simplistic and repetitive causing it to get boring really quickly!
half hours all i can really handle of this.

I bought both Rayman Legends and Origins for both my PS3 and Vita.

And probably would have bought it for my PS4 IF there had been a good enough incentive.

+ As for the loading times, I believe they are short enough as it is, plus I can use that to nab an extra heart/life (which is available during the loading section).

+ The scratching Lucky Ticket bit was already experienced on my Vita, and imo it's really not that big a deal.

+ As for visuals, the cartoony visuals were already perfect, imho, and I'm not sure how UbiSoft plans to improve upon them in a manner which is evident to folks.

+ The Remote Play bit, for folks that do not have the Vita version, is a great new feature.

In my opinion, IF you already have BOTH the PS3 and Vita versions, then there's not a good enough reason to buy the PS4 version. You could probably use that to buy other PS4 games.
