More good news for the upcoming Alien: Isolation .

The new effort, which sounds more and more like traditional survival/horror, will certainly look pretty damn good on next-gen consoles. As Sega confirmed via Twitter :

" Happy to confirm that the game will run in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One! "

They didn't clarify whether or not the game will run in 1080p natively or if it will be upscaled to that maximum HD resolution. They did say they're "aiming" for native 1080p, but they couldn't definitively say it's coming. In development at Creative Studios, Alien: Isolation is coming to the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will focus on Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda, and as mentioned above, it won't involve a ton of mindless alien slaying. No, this one might be closer to the freaky and atmospheric Alien vs. Predator for the Atari Jaguar.

Man, remember that game? Still one of the few titles ever made that freaked me out when playing with the lights off. Let's hope Isolation can be equally scary; that's the way Alien games should be!

I hope they focus on making it a good game first, then graphics and stuff. Is this first person? It's hard to get first person survival/horror right. Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth comes to mind.

Yea it's first person. From the video I saw it looked like you only had Marion dectector and a flashlight too.

Hope this is better than that abysmal alien game released last year.

I made the mistake of getting Colonial Marines for $9. Wish I had that $9 back, it was unplayable.

@World, I'm so curious about it — I kind of want to inspect the flaming wreckage, y'know? But I cherish Aliens too much to do it. I sent my pre-ordered copy back to Amazon after the reviews surfaced, and I refuse to support it in any way.

That's why I got it, to inspect that flaming wreckage because most gamers and critics just overreact. Duke Nukem for instance was not unplayable or technically deficient, in fact it did what it wanted to do pretty well. What it wanted to do wasn't great, but it got a 4 score here. Colonial Marines on the other hand is a technical mess so I couldn't enjoy it for what it was because it didn't achieve its goal.

I sorta wish devs would target 720p for the XO and 1080p for the PS4. It'd make for better looking games. Otherwise it seems to me likely the PS4 version would only look as good as the XO could generate graphics at 1080.

So how long are we going to have to put up with all the c**kwaving about how this game's 720p, this one's 900p and this one's 1080p? 720p can look nigh as good as 1080p, provided that the art is strong enough. Yeah, I'm jaded.

Honestly, I just hope that the reports stating that you'll be fighting against clones is wrong as can be and that it's mostly just you and the xenomorph. Done right, this could be fantastic, but I'm not overly optimistic.

you would hope so!
if they cant get this running at 1080P on next gen systems than theres a serious problem!
afterall 1080P has been the standard for PC for how many years now?
need to replace the name next gen, with not so next gen.

Yeah Ben, Alien v. Predator on the Jaguar was a pretty freaky game. If this new game is like that one, I expect it to be pretty good.

Still a bit disappointed we're not getting a decent Alien FPS.
Colonial Marines should have been the one but well………

This is certainly Alien with Outlast together.
Might just work.

This game is such a pleasant surprise and it sounds absolutely amazing. The early impressions of the demo are off-the-charts positive, too. Just a demo, sure, but this seems like the survival horror Alien game I have desperately wanted since I was a kid.

No question someone will try to make an Aliens FPS shooter someday. I think it's the right move to just go in a different direction for a while, though, and reaffirm what makes Alien/Aliens so great — it's the LOSS of power, the fear, the near-certain DOOM represented by the aliens that makes the stories so compelling, not "ooh-rah!" gung-ho marines on a "bug hunt" with aliens providing little more than moving target practice.
