Sony hasn't produced a ton of first-party accessories for the PlayStation 4. At least, not yet.

That's where third-party manufacturers like Nyko come into play. As the company revealed during the CES event in Las Vegas (as reported by Digital Spy ), Nyko will deliver two very practical peripherals for Sony's popular new console.

One seeks to increase the lifespan of the Dual Shock 4 controller. Gamers have complained of a shorter-than-anticipated battery life, so Nyko is bringing you a PowerPak replacement battery that features a 1,000mAh cell. We don't know when it'll be available but when it does arrive, it should provide users with twice as much power as the controller's native battery. And if you're worried about the PS4 overheating, you can eventually pick up the Intercooler peripheral. It automatically senses temperature changes and ramps up the speed of its fans to compensate for increased heat.

The Intercooler will run you $25 while the PowerPak will have a $20 price tag. Both sound awfully useful but I have a thing about using third-party accessories with my PlayStation hardware…ever since that crap-ass EB-branded memory card wiped out 35 hours of Front Mission 3 data and the first three hours of Vagrant Story . 🙁

Don't tell me the PS4 is already having overheating issues, I have lost 2 PS3s in the past over this… which I should add is due to them giving the US and Europe a weaker fan than the original Japanese model.

It isn't, Nyko always comes out with coolers for consoles.

For some people, depending on where they live, it can get pretty hot in the spring/summer, so this may be useful for them. Otherwise, I don't see why it would be needed right now, since we've yet to hear about any major overheating problems.

I've hard that these "cooler" add-ons are actually counterproductive. Has anyone tried it and do you have positive feedback on it?

I know that some of them ended up destroying xbox 360s. Ive never really trusted 3rd party periferals.

The battery is something id likely buy. The ps4 controllers do run out of juice rather fast..they charge fast though but i hate getting up to change controllers..

The battery sounds good, I don't think you'd need the intercooler unless you do 16 hour gaming sessions.

when you need to add a battery pack to a controller, especially when said controller has only been available for 2 freaking months, you know your in trouble!
$ony, PLEASE for the love of god let us turn the f*cking useless battery sucking lightbar off!
its funny theres so many mod sites showing how to crack the thing open and disable it, and there showing with it off it actually lasts FOUR times longer!
so im having to recharge my DS4 4 freaking times just so i can have a useless annoying light on my controller?
especially annoying on my useless TV, $ony in their infinite wisdom put a high reflective gloss display in it so its like using a mirror as my TV!
every time I play something all i can see is the reflection of the lightbar, the one thing i dont want to see!
allot of thought went into that one……….
nice to see $ony actually tests their stuff, and not blindly create then release them with zero testing!
