God of War started something massive for Sony, something Sony hasn't experienced since the first Gran Turismo. It is without a doubt the biggest franchise under Sony's belt, in addition to GT, and boy does it get everybody's attention at the slightest mention. By now we've all seen the trailer, we've all seen the gameplay clip, and we were all amazed like we've never been amazed before. God of War III's gameplay is just one of the many massive demonstrations that helped land Sony the win at last week's E3 by a landslide. So what is there to expect out of the third game that'll end the trilogy that God of War sparked on the PlayStation 2?
Well, for starters, you get just that: the story that seals the trilogy up and possibly opens the series up for new installments. Of course, if you've been a God of War devotee like many of us are, you should expect the third game to be the most epic, seeing as how it is going to finally have Kratos meeting eye-to-eye with the Gods that have betrayed him. Gods? Kratos? Mt. Olympus? Exploring Hell? This is going to be absolutely insane.
Of course Kratos will come action-packed with goodies, including his double-chained blades, in addition to various weapons (both new and old), magic attacks, and other abilities to help you get Kratos through the game's most grueling settings and events. A new weapon Sony showed off came as a pair and it's called the Cestus; these massively powerful gauntlets allow Kratos to perform some incredible and devastating attacks that'll surely leave you in awe. Grappling and slamming enemies to the ground will be another one of the many new techniques Kratos will be capable of. And if you're wondering where you get to utilize all of Kratos' mayhem, well wonder no more. Because, like we said, this game is epic. How epic, you ask?
This game is so epic that the environments are four times larger than what they were in God of War II. This game is so epic that some of those environments are actually living, breathing, and moving levels called Titans, that are these absolutely gigantic creatures as large as the Empire State Building. For those not familiar with New York City skycrapers, go Google or Wiki the building, but I suggest a chin-strap to prevent your jaw from slamming on the floor. Yes, it's that f-ing epic.
And hey, if third-person and first-person shooters can have vehicles, than so can Kratos, as he'll be able to forcefully take a ride on creatures, beating them if they refuse. And if they still refuse? Beat them to hell and find another one. The creatures can be used for attacks, as well, as Kratos will be able to inflict them with rage. Furthermore, creatures will come in handy for certain puzzles.
Lastly, expect nothing but the highest quality when it comes down to God of War III's visuals. Running on an all new game engine that is expected to either natively run at 1080p or a consistent 60 frames per second (we're hoping for both!), God of War III is a piece of software that with all of its complexities is only capable on one machine. It's intricate lighting details are so abundant that each stage features thousands of dynamic lights, and the textures boast a resolution that have no equal. The texture detail is so superb that you will see Kratos' muscles flex and animate realistically, all based on the actions he's performing. The game engine is so fantastic and facial animation is so precise that the cut-scenes run using the game engine.
What's there for me to say? Chances are you wouldn't care if I came in here and wrote an article talking about Zanzibar, and asking why they call it Greenland if it's all ice, and Iceland if it's pretty green. Point being, this is God of War III. And that's all that matters. March 2010, kids. March. 2010.
I watched a few vids on this from E3 and man I had to stop due to wanting more. March 2010 is so far away but good to see them taking the time for this game to make it perfect 🙂
March 2010!!!!!!! *kicks someone in the stomach*
I've seen the Empire State Building…
I was expecting Kratos to f*ck the gods up in GOWII
But he'll get this chance, he damn as hell will!
Great preview by the way Arnold!
By the way, the GOW games have some of the best and most enjoyable puzzles I've seen in games in a long time.
Everything you do in this game has a reason behind it.

Making me drool again…. I want this game now. Can I at least get a demo to hold us over….
K, Back to waiting now. "sigh"
Ahh.. what a game!! FFXIII is the only game that can match up to GOW3. 2010 will be biggest year of gaming, GOW3 rules!!
i agree with smileys_007
FF XIII is the only other game surrounded by this much hype, but GOW 3 has more simply because its coming out sooner and one other thing……
GOW 3 IS BADASSS!!!!
God of War III is going to epic, and it will totally top I and II. So that's why I don't understand why some people have the nerve to say this is just II with better graphics. They are dead wrong!
Nice username…
If it's based off Heavenly Sword it's awesome
Kai is the love of my life…
I know how to discribe it for you…
"The biggest thing since Jesus…"

Why thank you.
The demo they played looked absolutely sick and hardcore; I feel so ashamed of myself for not having played GOW 1&2 yet.I want to get them now but I am afraid they are going to release them all in a CE so I feel I should wait(for now).
I love the story in the games. Greek Mythology is interesting in its own right, but how SCEA have used it and incorporated Kratos's story into it just makes it a whole lot better.
Gameplay is friggin awesome. GOW is one of those rare games where you can't find fault in the gameplay. Its always consistant with the action and having fun. When the games have been reviwed there is never anything negative to say about them, so critics always found faults that aren't there. If there is a game that sets the benchmark on PS2, pushing the power its very limit, getting 100% out of it and there is no more you can do, then it is the GoW games. Those 2 a truely 100% 10 out of 10 games.
With GoW III, they won't be pushing the PS3 to the max. Imagine what they could do if they decide to make a fourth GoW and that came out in 2013-2014?
Is there anywhere on the net that has the full story of events or a timelime of some sort? I love to ave a database like the Metal Gear Solid database from PSN.

If you want a database, go to http://www.greekmythology.com The games have gotten me alot more inerested.
That would be so awesome if they came out with a database like the dlc MGS database!
I love this game but one thing concerns me that i don't think a few people thought of yet. Is that that head ripping game play is going to give the media something to talk about. I'm sure they are going to bi*** about it and I hope Sony has a counter measure for them. Anyone sees my point? I can't wait to get this game!
nah that's fine
Resident Evil has some gruesome stuff too so they shouldn't bi*** too much
If I remember my Greek mythology, some of the stuff that happens is pretty violent, so I don't think the mainstream media would pick up on this. But then again you never know.
I dont give a damn what they say as long as it can fall into my clutches. Screw the media. As long as they dont do that banning crap I'll stay totally sane.
One of the other weapons will have to be the sword of olympus. They just cant throw it out the door like it never existed. Also I'm looking forward to see what other boss battles there will be. They said that they were gonna keep the amount in between GOW I & GOW II bosses. I sincerely hope that they add Hercules. That my friends would be EPIC! Very nice preview Arnold. Very nice!
And Herakles/Heracles!
@sps3
actaually in greek mythology its heracles
if u look in the 1st game(idr if there's any mention of his name in 2) and check the name of the combo, yes they do have it as hercules. but that is in fact incorrect
why they did it that way, i have no idea
@banky a
hercules is basically the roman version of heracles
roman myth is based off of greek myth

i specificly bought a ps3 for this game and a couple others but this one most of all. everytime i think of how epic its going to be i almost crap my pants.
o and about the guts and gore head ripping and belly slashing. do you know how long it has taken them to actually make guts fall out of the person when you kill them… this will be the first! this will be the true next gen game!
