One of the things I often wish for are remakes. More specifically, remakes that boast features that can currently be found in the franchise, be it visual or gameplay. With a game like Final Fantasy VII it'd be a visual remake, meanwhile Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is a compilation of the best songs found in the first four Guitar Hero games (includes Rocks the 80s), with World Tour's gameplay.

So, while not quite a remake, this compilation of the best the series has seen is still a really nice treat for someone like me, whose always wished to play certain GH songs with a band, or on my own with a drumset. The total soundtrack will include a fantastic list of 48 tracks. And best of all? Any songs that were once covers in the past games are now fully licensed actual tracks.

Because this game covers a span of four games, Guitar Hero I, II, III, and Encore: Rocks The 80s, Neversoft used the fan favorites, which includes: “Them Bones” by Alice in Chains, Queen’s “Killer Queen,” “Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison, Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name,” “I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts’s “I Love Rock N Roll,” Heart’s “Barracuda” and Dragonforce’s “Through the Fire and Flames.” Yes…Dragonforce is back.

Now, over the past few weeks, Activision has been slowly revealing the list to us in chunks, and so far, and we're up to over 40 tracks. Here's what you can expect:

Pantera – "Cowboys From Hell (Live)"
Franz Ferdinand – "Take Me Out"
Queens of the Stone Age – "No One Knows"
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts – "I Love Rock N' Roll"
Boston – "More Than A Feeling"
White Zombie – "Thunder Kiss '65"
Blue Oyster Cult – "Godzilla"
Helmet – "Unsung (Live)"
Queen – "Killer Queen"
Incubus – "Stellar"
Ozzy Osbourne – "Bark At The Moon"
Deep Purple – "Smoke On The Water"
The Donnas – "Take It Off"
The Exies – "Hey You"
Pat Benatar – "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"
Living Colour – "Cult Of Personality"
Heart – "Barracuda"
Kiss – "Rock And Roll All Nite"
AFI – "Miss Murder"
DragonForce – "Through The Fire And Flames"
Priestess – "Lay Down"
Slayer – "Raining Blood"
Avenged Sevenfold – "Beast And The Harlot"
Rage Against The Machine – "Killing In The Name"
Rush – "YYZ"
Lynyrd Skynyrd – "Free Bird"
Foo Fighters – "Monkey Wrench"
Iron Maiden – "The Trooper"
Nirvana – "Heart-Shaped Box"
Lamb of God – "Laid To Rest"
The Police – "Message In A Bottle"
Wolfmother – "Woman"
Kansas – "Carry On Wayward Son"
Stone Temple Pilots – "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart"
Warrant – "Cherry Pie"
Alice in Chains – "Them Bones"
Danzig – "Mother"
Jane's Addiction – "Stop!"
Reverend Horton Heat – "Psychobilly Freakout"
The Sword – "Freya"
Motley Crue- "Shout At The Devil"

If you're the least bit familiar with Guitar Hero, then you should very well know what to expect, vocals, guitar, bass, and drumset to play through the game's main career mode. Admittedly, I'm not sure what the game's career mode will entail, but we're sure Neversoft has something in mind. And even if they don't, I don't think many of us will care anyways…I'd reckon most people play GH for the tunes, anyway.

Additionally, just because this is a compilation, don't expect Neversoft to skimp out on the features, as Smash Hits will boast that which made World Tour so fantastic, including the ability for eight gamers to play, which means taking many of these songs online for the very first time. Moreover, you've got Music Studio, which allows you to piece together your own tunes and share them online. The Rock Star Creator is also present in full force just as it was in World Tour. And even Guitar Hero: Metallica's Expert+ difficulty will be made available for gamers to fulfill their double bass desires.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits will go on sale mid-June this Summer for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Eyes open, GH fans, this one will rock you.

Vocal track on some of those should be…interesting. I mean, the precussion track in Psychobilly Freakout is amazing, but it's not…er…lyrically deep, is it?

The Trooper by Iron Maiden? I don't recall seeing that in any previous GH game. It's a good song though.

I'm already disenchanted with Guitar Hero. It was pretty cool when it first came out. Even through the release of GH: Aerosmith. When they copied Rock Band with the full band and broke away from the true Guitar Hero, they lost me. I only rented GH Metallica because I like their songs. I've actually thought about selling my GH stuff that I have.
