For long now, Midway has been synonymous with arcade sports games such as NFL Blitz and NBA Jam, they've no doubt pioneered the entire aspect of taking a sport to its extremes by defying gravity and the laws of physics, altogether. Most recently, they've found much success with their NBA Ballers franchise that debuted a few years back on the PlayStation 2. NBA Ballers captured the fabulous lifestyle of said ballas', in addition to providing some pretty solid arcade b-ball. And the fact that it looked really sharp didn't hurt, at all. Well, with two Baller games under their belt, Midway is ready for the third, and this time for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

NBA Ballers: Chosen One is the all new entry in Midway's series, and it'll feature a cast of 65 NBA superstars, from which you will choose one and pave a career with in order to be herald as the 'chosen one'. In other words, your goal is to become the next legend. You'll still partake in one-on-one matches, as well as two-on-two games, and Midway states that you'll still be able to simply pick-up the game and play it, so expect a low learning curve, but depth, as well.

The depth will come with the combo system that'll allow for a vast variety of moves and maneuvers to pull off, in order to fend off any opposition that stands in your way. Furthermore, each athlete will have a super-move they can unleash on their foes to give them a dominant edge. These super-moves are called "Shut 'Em Down", and each NBA star will have his own unique showpiece to demonstrate. And to stylize that display of sheer force, this new NBA Ballers features 'action movie'-esque game cameras to accurately highlight the showmanship of the NBA superstars on screen.

Various modes will include Create-a-Baller, which is the self-explanatory mode that allows you to create your star, and allow him to embark on the "Chosen One Tournament", as well. And your tournament travels will feature some of the most exotic court locales around the world. If flying around the world isn't enough for you, then challenge gamers online with any NBA star, or your own baller.

"NBA Ballers: Chosen One will allow players to live the life of an NBA superstar," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Featuring new competitive combo and super-move systems, the NBA Ballers Franchise returns with the amazing realistic graphics for which the franchise is known as players take part in the ultimate challenge to become the next 'Chosen One."

Indeed, NBA Ballers: Chosen One features visuals with some very pretty details. It's no surprise that the game is shaping up to be quite a looker, as the previous games were no slouches. Midway is using an all new optimized game engine for the third entry, and it shows. Athletes display solid texturing, with realistic skin, and accurately defined physiques. If Midway can nail the framerate (come on, 60 frames!) and nail the animation, we'll have ourselves a winner.

NBA Ballers: Chosen One is for a Spring 2008 release.
