So I've been playing RAGE but I can't really talk about it yet. That being said, I doubt Bethesda would begrudge me one word: wow .
And while you have to wait until next week to get your hands on id Software's newest production, the publisher has released 7 full minutes of gameplay.
This is footage from Jackal Canyon (which I haven't seen yet, although I do have the sniper rifle) and although it doesn't really do the game justice from a visual standpoint, it shows you what to expect.
Perhaps the best way to describe RAGE is to compare it to Borderlands , only with an emphasis on vehicles, a more cohesive story, insane graphical quality, and not quite so many weapons. Expect the review to arrive next week as soon as the embargo lifts; until then…I will just keep playing. 😉

The more I see about this game, the more I want it. And I think if you preorder at Gamestop, you get upgraded to the Anarchy Edition for free.
As do I. There is so many titles out that I would like to own over the course of the next two months..
awesome
I know that you can't say anything about the game yet, but (and this is going to be unpopular here) if I really dislike "car-carnage" games like Twisted Metal and hated every single vehicle section in every game that ever had one then is this something I am going to be able to get into?
I heard gunplay is plays a larger part in the first half of the game and racing becomes more significant middle to end. It may be worth giving it a shot. Rent of GameFly perhaps.
Well, vehicles are a big part of the game. I won't say it's the biggest part, but if you hate driving that much, you might be annoyed.
We really have to come up with a universal rating system for thumbing down people. He asked a legitimate question and he got 2 thumbs down without explanations for why.
@godsman: Some people like using it if somebody's OPINION contradicts theirs. I've personally gotten so used to ignoring the "thumbs down"s on this comment section just because some folks don't seem to know how to properly use it. Not that I got *that* many thumbs down, of course.
Looks really good, i hope sp is 1000 hrs.
It looks gooood
i am not a big fan of id or john carmack since he said the 360 is his favorite console and also that it's the best console. i do not think id has a lot of respect for the ps3 platform. carmack's list of complaints against the the ps3 have been extensive spanning everything from sony's software tools, asymetric cpu, memory constraints becuase sony's operating system has a larger footprint than the 360, partitioned memory, weak gpu, and finally blu ray latency issues. i've said this before. i think it is very damaging to have a guy like carmack yacking away like that.
let's not forget about id's disgusting tactic of locking out the sewers unless you have a damn code. it's an online pass for a single player game. don't worry, id said most players won't even notice the sewers. i assure the best loot will probably be in the sewers. that's usually how it works. i just don't like online passes and they have no business being in a sp player game.
I'll bet a lot of money that the "best loot" is NOT in those sewers, and the overreaction to this pass thing is absurd. It's mildly irritating but that's about it.
I've been playing for a long time. I think I've seen one sewer.
@ben
did you go down in the sewers? can you tell us what's down there or would that violate a review emargo? i understand if you can't answer now but i hope you mention what is down there in your review. mildly irritating is a good way to discribe it. disgusting is a good way to put it as well. in a lot of games the best loot is usually found in places like caves or sewers. there must be something down there. otherwise what's the point? the truth is i don't have a damn clue what's down there. it's probably some high level enemies that grant a lot of xp or drop some good loot.
another thing to remember is not every ps3 out there is connected to the internet. it's something like 80%. so about 20%of ps3 users will be left out of the sewers. the percentage of 360 users left out will be even higher. it's really not fair to them, and i think it's a poor way to treat consumers.
i will say i am glad there was an overreaction to this. it might discourage similar tactics in the future. sp games should not have areas locked out by a stupid code. id's tactic here will defintely cost them some sales.
this reminds me of what ea did with mass effect 2. that game had the comic and all the bonus content locked out by a code. we are talking about hours of gameplay locked out. the bonus content was already on the disc but was locked out by the code. the only thing downloaded from the cerebus network was the comic. me2 was a pain in the ass to get started. half hour hd intall, create ea account, download comic from cerebus network and redeem your code to gain access to content already on disc. the problem there was the cerebus network was down for 4 freaking days, no big deal i thought. i'll start my game and download it later when the network is working. nope that didn't work. i had to restart my game once i downloaded the comic if i wanted to play the bonus missions such as lair of the shadow broker. hours of gameplay lost.
let's just say i was not happy about that. me2's set up was almost like a damn pc game. it was a pain in the ass and totally uncalled for on a sp game. how long before we have whole sections of games locked out by codes? keep online passes out of sp games please.

I haven't been down there yet, no. But I'll go, just to see.
Honestly, this game has so much to offer, I'm really not caring about the one sewer I've seen.
thank you answering. it sounds like you are impressed with the game so that makes me feel better. i am glad you said you will go down in the sewers just to see. my future brother-in-law is considering getting this game but he heard about the sewers and was turned off by it since he does not have his ps3 connected to the internet. he wants to know what he will be missing out on. i am going to tell him you said the game has a lot to offer outside of the sewers but i hope you do mention what is down there in your review.
i will direct him to your site when the review is up. i think this site has the most in depth reviews. they are very well written as well. you do a great job ben, and i think it's pretty cool that you interact with members in the comments section. the members here are great as well. i love the threads section becuase members here are pretty smart and mature. there's really no other gaming site like this. the community is great.
I really hope this game gets the credit it deserves and people give it a chance. I know with this huge fall line up; Batman, BF3, Dark Souls, MW3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3 a lot of people will have to pick and choose. I hate when there are so many great games out and so little money to drop on them. I really hope that some retailers have some good black friday deals like buy two get one free or $30 for a brand new game. Also has anyone tried out the sony 7.1 wireless headset? Its' around $100 just curious if its worth it or not.
well j.k. said 360 is his preferred system only because it's way easier to make a game for 360, it's like toyota's ceo saying corolla is the best car in the world as it's easy to make, but from a consumer's pov its a whole different thing
Wow, that trailer kicked butt. I'm sold on the game. My new PC probably could run it at the recommended specs according to Steam but to be safe, I'll buy it for my PS3. At least there will be no disc-swapping. Besides, The Evil Empire will have it for $49.83. I don't need any Anarchy Edition.
Oh shit… That looks good!
From what I am able to see in the small video window the graphics look just… Insanely good? And gigantic maps too?

Yes. Insanely good. Big maps, too.
But if these maps are as big as the Borderlands maps with this level of graphics (how the heck did they manage that???) and even rpg mechanics are in place then could it be said that this is how even Fallout could have looked like had it been done by ID?
If that is correct then… Wow.

They manage it by an 8GB install and unduly long load times, unfortunately.
Oh no… Loading time sucks. But there's only so much memory available? Do they stream stuff straight from file?
Sounds like it's time to upgrade the ps3 with a SSD disk – that should do wonders for this game!

i wont buy it until i see your review ben
i normally dont let reviews sway me, but i look forward to ur in depth review
But that looks extremely good, no environmental destruction tho. not that every game needs it. I just hope the game is long and not just long for being long's sake, but it keeps you into it the whole ride threw.
Any rpg elements like weapon progression or weapon mods? i know you cant say, just askin tho

Is the graphical quality of the PS3 version really as good as that video???
Looks gorgeous.
Good question.
soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cant wait for this!
why oh why did bethesda have to release this 1 week before i go away?
no way im going to get it done in 1 week!
🙁
Is this PC footage or PS3? It looks great!
Ben- When does the embargo lift on reviews?
Like Borderlands but with "a more cohesive story, insane graphical quality, and not quite so many weapons". Sounds exactly like I was hoping for, my main concerns are with the vehicle sections, because that was by far my least favorite part of Borderlands, and that annoying Pass creeping up on a lot of games nowadays.
I don't really care about the sewers per say, but I don't like supporting the behavior.
You got it, it's the behaviour that is the problem here, not the sewers in itself.
