Dead Space is one of the best new franchises of the generation, and we can't wait to hear about the third installment.
It's probably a ways off, but it seems an insider has enlightened Siliconera with some important baseline information.
Firstly, there will be a setting change; rather than a spaceship, we'll be playing on a mysterious icy planet called Tau Volantis. Secondly, protagonist Isaac Clarke will return (well, of course he will!) and at the start of his third adventure, he crash-lands on the aforementioned planet. He strikes out to find shelter, where he also stumbles across other survivors, including Ellie, who you might remember from the first title.
Thirdly, it seems Ellie, Isaac, and a new character, Jennifer, will be traveling together. That doesn't mean we'll have allies this time around; it just means we won't feel quite so alone…right? Lastly, it seems the enemies in the game are being described as "the hive mind," whatever that means. All we know is we definitely want to learn more, as Dead Space 3 will undoubtedly be a huge production.
I have never owned the games, but have played the demo's a number times. The atmosphere is darn good to say the least. Maybe this 3rd outing will be the cream of crop and could be worth the collection.
Very interested to see how this turns out!
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
So far the first one is the best. 2 was boring.
LOL the first one was the best but the 2nd was hardly boring. The story in the 2nd one was definitely a downgrade, especially if your not familiar with the DS universe but you cant say it was boring..
Both are fantastic games, and I don't agree at all that the second was boring nor was it a downgrade. It was just more of the same. Which is fine. I thought the way they started the second was really good. I thought what they did with the second was great after the way the first ended. With that said the first was a better game.
When a game feels like a chore, it's constantly losing my attention, I can't wait for it to be over and the end never bothered to finish it I can absolutely say it was boring.
now you know how i feel about uncharted……..
*boring*? Wow… It scared the sh*t out of me. 😀
@Jawknee
To each his own I guess, however Boring?!!! That is not possible unless your dead. Which would be perfect for this type of game. But boring, I think is so far from the truth it almost screams FLAME ME FLAME ME!

@__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I guess I could just put something heavy on the keys and I would get your name right all day long. Anyway, 98% of your posts scream FLAME ME FLAME ME!!! LOL
Man, Uncharted and Dead Space 2 boring! I had no idea I would read such comedy when I woke up today. Thanks guys! 🙂
Yea well George Cantstandya, you have proven time and time again that you have terrible taste so your loony opinion matters not.
Look, you guys may like Dead Space 2 and that's good and fine, I just didn't find it as fun as the first. Once you played one Dead Space, you have played them all. Here's hoping 3 is much better.
And Crusadar, you have been reading my posts long enough to know I'm not trying to Flame you. You need to accept the fact that not everyone is going to say things you like or agree with. You come on here complaining about my opinion, accusing me of trying to start a flame war when it is you who is flaming people for having differing opinions. You like Dead Space 2? That's great! Not all of us did so get over it.
Last edited by Jawknee on 9/27/2011 10:07:27 AM
and you dont?
oh the irony!
i can understand uncharted being boring, its got a stupidly far fetched story, you get the same old far fetched set pieces over and over again, you get the same gameplay fed to you over and over again.
though dead space 2 has a great tense atmosphere, epic boss battles, frantic set pieces.
eh, whatever im done with arguing with a brick wall.
Riiiiight, because most games if not all of them don't have far fetched stories. Far fetched like a bunch of roid freaks battling giant worms with ridicules chainsaw rifles?
When you are insane, which you clearly are, do you know you're insane? Do you wake up in the morning and ever go "wow, I am a freaking headcase!"
@_______
I'm pretty sure you were saying how good GeoW story was the other day. Do you consider any of that NOT far fetched? Dude you are completely out of control! You always contradict everything you say, everything man.
Jawknee
It's ok you didn't like dead space 2. I was just engaging in the conversation, and stating how I felt about it. I do agree it was a lot of the same, but it was still great. You like the first you should enjoy the second. That's how I feel about it.
Oh I know bigrailer, I wasn't taking issue with your comments. Only the obvious flamebait ones. My problem with Dead Space 2 is that if you played the first game, which was freaky deaky and full of cheap scares, 2 had little else to offer. It was like I already new what to expect and didn't find it scary at all anymore. Resident Evil on the other hand always seemed to keep the frights fresh(when it was good anyway). Something Dead Space 2 failed to do in my opinion.

Yea I agree with that. What's funny is the second seemed to try a lot harder to be scary. One part I thought was funny is when you enter a room, a balloon starts to float and then pops. It's like come on, really? The scare factor got predictable. But I still had fun with it. I don't particularly like scary stuff lol. That's why I never thought I'd like let alone even play these games.
@Jawknee
LOL!!! You are an angry one aren't you.
Anyways…….

You ever played DS1 (for the first time of course) in the dark with the lights off?, SCARY, especially in the rooms where it blacked out and u had to battle the enemies. I played some of it during the day but it wasn't scary enough for me.

Not angry, just don't like people projecting their flaws unto others. And since you have failed to effectively rebut anything I have said about the said topic without assuming what people find enjoyable or fun is subjective…anyways indeed.
Wow, don't pop a blood vessel in your brain it's not a big deal. I am sure you have family that would be destroyed if you had an aneurism over a Dead Space 3 PSX blog. I just didn't see how this game could be boring. That is my opinion just like you saying it's your opinion that the game is boring. I just read the Internet Law and Best Practices Volume 43 and in no way shape or form does it say it is wrong to not like someone's opinion on the Internet.
Anyways………
@Jawknee: To each his own I guess. Personally, I always thought the opposite of what you think about Resident Evil and Dead Space. RE got predictable around halfway through #2. Dead Space hasn't gotten predictable yet IMO.
Just to let you know, John, "the hive mind" was the final boss of the first game. Maybe that means the enemies will be big, maybe they'll be covered in tentacles, or maybe they'll be epic fights like that one was.
Maybe it's better that you DON'T give details away for those who haven't played it.
That was the name of the final boss? …I remember the boss but not the name.
That's not really a spoiler or anything… What he said would actually make me wanna play it. I'd be even more curious.
Call me crazy but I can't get into these games.
You are crazy….
crazy
It's ok… It took me just before the 2nd released to play the First. I didn't think I'd like them. I was flat WRONG!
There is nothing wrong with someone saying they don't like DS. There are a ton of gamers that don't like horror games. However, boring! I just cannot get by that! 🙂
Last edited by CrusaderForever on 9/27/2011 7:54:37 AM
Why can one have the opinion that it was boring? Seriously, you all are acting like fun is not subjective.
@jawk: lol, I think it's more the choise of word here, "boring"!
Did you factually sit there yawning while playing? Dozing off? Did your thoughts wander off? Thinking about what to eat for dinner tomorrow while knocking down monsters? That kind of bored?
If you did then cool, by all means. But then I gotta say you are the stone coldest and toughest player I imagine I've ever had the pleasure of meeting!

I love DS 1&2. The third should be just as awesome if not better! already can't wait!
My favorite multiplat series! Im chucking away at Dead Space extraction at the moment and cant get enough. I hope we get a reveal for 3 soon
Just don't make it a yearly release and we're golden!
I'd like to see them alternate between this and the Dante Inferno series. Or is the sequel to inferno not happening anymore?
I don't know, I'd be surprised if it did happen, critics couldn't get over the GOW clone thing even though it did everything better than GOW but graphics. Day 1 for me if it does happen though.
Hi guys!
I'm a Community Manager here at Electronic Arts, and wanted to weigh in here.

Husky Hog,
Wow, taking time out of your busy schedule just to stop in & give us some 411….
"NICE….and thanks a mil!
I think moving it onto a planet would be a great idea! I honestly was getting irritated by the same enemies, shooting the same body parts. So here's hoping this new planet has some new enemies, with more variety!
Crap, I knew one day there will be news on a new DS game, haven't played 2 yet. Scary a$$ moments that's for sure.
already?
dam, i was hoping we would get a dantes inferno 2 first!
come on visceral dont turn this into GH!
weve got enough horror styled games coming out next year, give us a openish world action game!
i loved dantes inferno, if they dont give it a sequel it will be the biggest atrocity since $ony replaced 8 days and the getaway 3 with a freaking crappy kids game!
I hope this one has better story than 2.
So I guess this is one of these moments…….. YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! YIPEEEE! LOL! 🙂 I am so happy to read this news! Loved, LOVED DS1 and DS2. This is right up there with Half-Life 3 or Diablo III finally being confirmed on the PS3.
Isaac's a beast and I cannot wait to learn more from this fantastic universe! What we really need is Neil Marshall or John Carpenter or some other big name horror director and a big budget to make the movie. But it has to be done right.
Cannot wait for this game D1P!
I loved DS1. DS2 was also better than it's predecessor in everything except one annoying thing. It froze the PS3 a lot of times (on more than 10 occasions). Still with a lot of patience I finished it.
"He strikes out to find shelter, where he also stumbles across other survivors, including Ellie, who you might remember from the first title."
I think Ellie is the chic who lost her eye in Dead Space 2. I don't think she was in Dead Space.

Also did anyone notice when Isaac and Ellie are in the ship at the end Ellie's life bar is empty! Hmmmm, DS3 here we come!

Yeah!!!!
I think the story in DS2 would have been 10 times better if they would've used a lot more plot points from Dead space aftermath. If anyone has netflix instant stream you should check it out. The animation is cheap & horrible but the plot connects a lot of the dots in DS2
@CrusaderForever
Yeah,that's what I thought.Thanks for confirming that.
@SoulController
I've wanted to see Dead Space Aftermath and had no idea it was available for instant stream. Looks like I'll be watching it this weekend.Thanks the info, man!

Ellie was awesome, totally a tough chica.
Not tough enough is my prediction! 🙂
