I Am Alive Rated By ESRB, Brutal Atmosphere Detailed

Ratings boards are good for leaking important details and information.

First, the Australian board rated Ubisoft's anticipated adventure/survival title, I Am Alive , which just sort of proved that the game was – forgive the pun – still alive.

Now, our own ratings board, the ESRB, has rated the title , saying it's in the works for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game has been rated M for Mature for "Blood, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, and Strong Language." They even tell us about brutal melee combat complete with certain "finishing moves," which will be QTEs (Quick Time Events) and just might be a touch gory. The full description also says there are instances of sexual situations, and overall, we'll be dealing with a gritty atmosphere and plenty of nasty stuff.

This is a little different than what we were expecting. Initially, we had heard I Am Alive would be more of a straight adventure title, but now it seems more like action. And don't forget that recent trailer

from adventure to action huh? Xbox strikes again.

Still excited for this, i wonder if they'll stick with the original premise about the underground god or what ever it was. i guess i'll just have to wait and see.

We're not allowed having action games on PS3? Adventure games are pants buddy, thank the maker they've gone this route.

the trailer in the link you have posted to the previous article comes up as "removed by user". i am interested to see how this turns out and it may be better that it is downloadable. dont have to worry about stores not wanting to sell it.

I know QTE's work for some games,

But Knight's Contract ruined QTE's for me.

The reviews for that game were brutal, was it really that bad?

On the harder difficulties, they required your timing to be so precise, that you had to hit the correct button just as the button you need to press would start to be shown…

In other words, you had to hit the correct button before it shows you what the correct button is.

So yes. Terrible. You have to play it over and over and over until you become one with the cutscene… which was compounded even worse by the game's inability to consistently detect your button presses if your press is too quick…

And the QTE's that require you to rapidly move the L or R stick left or right? Well… you had better move it precisely left or right, because a little bit of a diagonal would cause you to fail. And remember… you need to know you have to move it left or right before the screen shows you that you need to move it left and right.

It sucked, because you can only defeat it legitimately on easier difficulties… which makes the majority of the game far to simplistic. It was ok outside the QTE's. But it literally destroyed the game. That sentiment is echoed throughout the internet by everyone who has touched the game.

Oh… and I forgot the worst part of all…

If you make even a SINGLE miss on the QTE… it's either Game Over (against final bosses) or the boss gets nearly all it's health back. QTE's begin when all the health is gone.

Outside the QTE's, the game was half-decent. Should have scored an average score of 7.4 or so. QTE's essentially broke the game since it quite literally interrupted the entire game.

Somewhat different than expected, but I'm still looking forward to it. How can it be rated this long though and not even a peep about the release date? I predicting mid-2012. Sounds good.

Hmm. That most recent trailer did trigger all sorts of warning bells for me. This is triggering even more.

This isn't the game I saw shown at E3 2008. I saw an (light action)/adventure survival game, maxing at a T rating. Not some first-person weaponized gore fest.

Ubisoft, quit being stupid!!
