Syndicate Details: Atmosphere, Style, And “Breaching”

The return of Syndicate isn't a huge surprise and some of the uninitiated are going, "meh, just another shooter."

But wait a minute now. The latest issue of PSM3 has offered up a horde of details , and you just might change your tune after reading…

Check out the list of features and information and try not to be excited. Starbreeze is at the helm and if they can give us The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick , we're confident they can make Syndicate 's return a successful one. The game in question boasts an atmosphere inspired by sci-fi movies like "Blade Runner," "Terminator," "The Matrix," and "Inception," and all early indications are that the game looks amazing.

The concept is interesting, too. Most of earth's population has a consumer chip implanted in their heads; it's the DART 6 chip and it manages their lives while simultaneously granting access to tremendous technology. Syndicates feed data into these chips, and the "brutally competitive corporations" are in a battle to gain control over the "plugged-in citizens of the world." Futuristic destinations will include New York, Los Angeles and the floating city of La Ballena.

Intelligent AI can be expected, along with the skill called "breaching." It's sort of like hacking and the idea behind it reminds us of Mindjack . By utilizing various abilities and hacking into the chips in his enemy's heads, the main character gains the advantage. For instance, the skill Suicide will cause foes to turn their guns on themselves, while Allegiance is even more powerful, as the enemy will turn on his comrades and then kill himself. Sounds interesting, no?

These are just a few of the details available so far; click through the link above to learn more. Done correctly, Syndicate could be one of 2012's best.

Sounds promising, but apart from Bioshock Infinite and Mass Effect 3, the biggest game of 2012 that interests me is Dishonored. It's like Deus Ex set in 18th century London. The details from Game Informer last month really got me interested in it.

There are actually quite a lot of games to look forward to in 2012. The end of 2011 is looking pretty insane right now, but 2012 looks to be the year many new IP's and Indie creations really come out and shine.

It's like the massive kings of this gen are ending their reign in 2011 with the Modern Warfare trilogy, Gears of War trilogy, Uncharted trilogy and God of War trilogy all wrapping up. There's still the new Halo trilogy, but it feels to me that 2012 is full of more promising new IP's than 2011.

Quite honestly, I'm looking forward to it!! I say bring on 2012!! New quality IP's usually interest me more than sequels anyway. Agree?

We are definitely in a good flow regarding the games nowadays and it does look like it will just keep going into 2012. In addition to the mentioned Infinite and ME3 (GOTY!), you got the Lara Croft reboot that even I, the linear allergic as I am, is excited about, and Dust 514, Darkness 2, Borderlands 2…

Also the jrpg guys seem to get their fix in the months ahead!
Just lovely.

JRPG's are starting to fight back a little bit.

White Knight Chronicles 2 looks good, and Ni No Kuni just got a confirmed Western Release.

TGS has brought a lot of new and interesting games into the spotlight. Will be interesting to see how long they last there before the next CoD and Battlefield craze rolls through. I'm sick of shooters. Feel like learning Japanese and moving to Japan, they get all the good stuff!!

I'm very interested in how Dishonored turns out as well, the insane amount of freedom with your combat/no combat decisions is amazing. As for this game, the plot sounds intriguing enough, I'll keep an eye on how this one turns out.

I know I'm not the best gamer in the world, but Chronciles of Riddick was so crazy-hard that I couldn't even complete it… and that was on the easiest mode. My buddy told me that I can't play it as a regular FPS, but I just couldn't do it. I really, REALLY wanted to be good at it, though. I love the Riddick universe and can't wait for the third film!

There is a third film coming up? Cool I didn't know that. I loved the first two too!

The fist one (was it the first?), Pitch Black, was awful. So much un-nesscary swearing, and it was so cliché. Second is literally a world apart from the first in terms of quality.

Nooo I thought they were both great fun! Mindless fun, easy entertainment by all means, but I just love the universe depicted in those movies. I guess you can call them "guilty pleasures".

And, how can you *not* expect something cheesy from that actor anyway… I mean, he's a cliche just by himself…
I like him though. He's the kind of guy I would love to have as a buddy. I'm pretty sure he is a gamer too. Actually, now that I think about it, he remind me a bit about Ben! 😀

I am actually not looking forward to this. Syndicate was an awesome game, and a return to the series would me amazing. But i don't think an FPS would be anything like what the series was, the series was a lot more RPG than that.

Plus i do not have any confidence that Starbreeze can make it the kind of game that it should be, and could be, The Darkness wasn't anything special at all, neither was The Chronicles of Riddick.

meh, just another shooter. Seriously.

That says nothing about how the game will play, and it's obviously going to be nothing like the original game, so what's to be excited about.

Oh, and Inception has NO PLACE among those greats listed. Sheesh.
