Crysis For Consoles Will Be Upgraded From PC Version

Console owners will receive the original Crysis in downloadable form next month but the big questions have been: How will the game look? And will the console version be any different?

The title in question was widely considered to be one of the finest graphical productions of the generation when it first broke onto the scene, and many didn't believe it could be done to that level of quality on a console. But time has passed and now, Crytek is saying Crysis for the PSN/XBLA will be the best possible version.

Lead level designer Sten Huebler spoke to MyCrysis about the subject and said that the team learned a lot from developing Crysis 2 for consoles. Therefore, as for controls in the original Crysis , "the controls and interface are more straightforward, allowing the player to control the Nanosuit smoothly." And in regards to the graphics, he said:

"We drastically improved the lighting for all levels, updated and added new particle effects."

Huebler went on to say that the CryEngine was originally built for the PC, which is why shifting the first game to consoles took so long. "Many systems and parts of the architecture had to be changed and adapted to a console environment," he said. In the end, they're satisfied with the result.

"After our work on Crysis 2 was finished and our technology is now ready for consoles, it was our desire to release Crysis 1 finally on consoles as well. Most of the work was done at Crytek UK in Nottingham and we are very happy in how it turned out. It’s not without reason that some of the technically most competent games are only released late in the cycle for a console generation."

If you played Crysis 2 earlier this year, you very likely enjoyed yourself. And if you never got a chance to play the original, you can't pass up the opportunity next month, especially 'cuz you don't have to worry about an inferior version.

Seeing as most PCs had trouble running this (including my own) I think a console purchase wouldn't be out of the question. The PC version looked ridiculously good though, so will be interesting to see comparison pics and videos, as I am a graphics freak when it comes to FPS'.

I am yet to see a console version of a game look better than its PC counterpart. Unless crytek are blowing wind again, will be interesting to see the final result. If it plays smoother on PS3 and looks just as good as the PC version, I can see myself getting this. The controls were a little irksome too. I usually prefer a controller over a keyboard. (mouse is best for headshots, but not enough buttons… I know, call me crazy!!)

Will just add, the physics along with the graphics were what sold me in the first place on this game 2 years ago. I hope the physics stay exactly the same, with environmental damage and everything!!

The price could be a bone of contention, out with it man.

Could this mean that our version of Crysis in reality is using the same engine as Crysis 2?
Oh man I am so getting my hopes up for this release.

Please dear Gaming God let the next news item we get about Crysis be that they will release a boxed retail version too. It would look *so* good next to Crysis 2 in my collection.

Something in me is saying Crytek is blowing smoke. Granted they might have optimized the lighting and so forth but as of now, there is no way anyone can convince me Crysis on the PS3 and 360 will compare visually with the PC running on full specs. Or am I looking too deep into this?

I really hope a retail disc becomes available – don't like downloads. I'd pay the full $60 for Crysis with the Warhead expansion even without the Crysis Wars multiplayer

Take that LV =p

Hokey operating systems and ancient hardware is no match for a good PS3 at your side, kid.

Ancient hardware? Seeing as how it's taken almost 5 years for a console to come along that can finally play the game, seems you're directing the ancient technology comment at the wrong piece of hardware 🙂

Also, the console versions will not have any multiplayer included and also none of the expansions.

Well that remains to be seen, Crysis 2 doesn't even look as good as Crysis 1, so I highly doubt their console patch is going to look as good as it does on highest settings on PC, but it will be interesting to see.
