Ubisoft Secures Rights For Surf’s Up

Today, Ubisoft announced they have acquired the rights to create a game based on the upcoming Sony Pictures animated movie, "Surf's Up." The film is slated to hit theaters on June 8, and the game should be released a couple weeks earlier on May 22. Surf's Up is being prepared for all platforms (PSP, PS2, PS3, GC, GBA, DS, Wii, Xbox 360, and PC).

"Ubisoft has the creative and technological abilities to develop a cutting-edge arcade surfing game based on Sony Pictures Animation's new film, Surf's Up," said Mark Caplan, Vice President, Interactive at Sony Pictures Consumer Products. "Sony's partnership with Ubisoft has helped to expand our properties by creating fun interactive experiences beyond the movies while maintaining the creativity and artistic beauty of the films."

The movie arrives just in time for warmer weather, and it's set during the annual Reggie Belafonte Big Z Memorial Surf-Off. The game will feature the same setting, and players can take control of ten characters they'll recognize in the film. Some relatively big names are taking center-stage for the voiceovers, too: Jeff Bridges, Shia LaBeouf, Mario Cantone, Lani Aliikai, Zooey Deschanel, Diedrich Bader, and Sal Masekela are all lending their talents to the animated movie. And of course, we should expect to hear at least some of them in the game as well.
