It's the long-awaited Silent Hill installment on the PlayStation 3, and we're interested to see what developer Vatra has to offer.

This is the best look yet at Silent Hill: Downpour , which should capture that effectively creepy atmosphere for which the franchise is known. Survival/horror fans aren't too happy with games like Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City but you can always rely on Konami's freaky series to deliver the dark, subtle terror we all know and love.

Yep, this looks like what we want. We don't want a third-person shooter; we don't really even want an action game. We want a survival/horror , and Vatra seems to grasp that concept well. This is one of those titles that reminds us what it means to be afraid of a video game… What do you think?

As an attempt at Silent Hill…Absolutely bollox. 100% off the mark.

No new Silent Hill is coming.

Konami have offended us all.

Guy Cihi, the voice actor for James Sunderland is so disgusted at the treatment the suits at Konami are giving Team Silent's art that he written an open letter to Konami voicing his disgust at games like Downpour and the HD butchering of Team Silent's SH 2 and 3 and offers a little behind the scenes info in the disposal of Team Silent via Konami.

It is one of the worst cases of butchering i have ever seen and an utter tragedy for our industry. It was only a matter of time before past team members began speaking out.

Guy Cihi's Facebook doesn't paint Konami in a very good light.

Indeed, I certainly will not be buying SH2&3 in HD, The voices in the orginial versions are just ingrained into the characters. Though from what I have heard, Guy has all the reason to oppose Konami. Luckily my PS3 can play them anyway. How Silent Hill 3 looks is more impressive graphically than Homecoming astounds me.

I've been waiting for a new Silent Hill game that makes me jump from my seat like the first two used to, hopefully this would be it

I take it that is just an early tech Demo, as there were many sound hiccups and I noticed when the game automatically aved it would freeze.

As for the game itself… Well I have to say if that is an example of what it has to offer I doubt I will even buy it at bargain price. The combat was just sloppy, the animation was very slow, I got the impression due to the article that combat would not be a massive feature and it would be more like Shattered Memories, but no it looks just as tedious as it is in Homecoming.

The enviroments were not very interesting either, I am sure it will have more to offer but from this and the Alan Wake rip off town I have seen, yeah I am not convinced. Also, Why was that creature eating the body….Silent Hill is not a Zombie game…which I can see happening as it seems to have them undead people.

I also hate the camera, I know even in the early SH games the camera would follow the character, but when the character walked to a certain space the camera would chain for suspenseful moment. (& yes I noticed it changed everytime he climbed a ladder, but does that really count?). Films have cinematography attirubtes for a reason, Old survival horror games nailed this. games like Resident Evil 1-3, Parasite Eve 2, Silent Hill 1-4. Ever since RE changed the way of horror we have lost so much. I honestly can say I am looking forward to Tomb Raider more than this for it's new wave of Survival Horror, or even Amy.

I agree with you that we will probably NEVER have a silent hill or resident evil game like the originals that we used to love. But all I read are people whining and complaining. Maybe its time for us to take our heads out from our behinds and accept the truth that times have changed and so have video games. Maybe we all would appreciate them more. ;P

Not really many games series an game genres have changed for the worse.

Platformers have just turned into shooters because of Ratchet & Clank.People think RPG's are games like Fallout and Mass Effect where you have a land to explore shoot everything and make descisions…Horror games have also just turned into action games.

I'll give credit where it is due though, Siren Blood Curse was a brilliant horror game. Very dark and full of suspense, because you did not have the advantage of a full arsenal in your pocket.

@Ultimadream

Siren: Blood Curse was a game that easily set me on edge and that had definitely given me a good time. Not as great of a lasting fear as the older SH franchise, but still better than what there is today. Not to mention one of the weirdest final bosses/endings in video game history.

I'm skeptical about this one. I'm afraid I might not get into this one like SH Homecoming but then again. The best moment was SH2 in the dark with just a flashlight on the streets, that was scary.

For me it was the Hospital, sure it was not all surreal like SH3. But thats the thing, it felt real. A real and deslote place, It mad me feel sad more than scared which is quite a feat for a game to really get under your skin like that.

I don't like the look but the movement is good, it should be a solid game but… not silent hill.

Damn it! I was so hyped before I saw this lame gameplay video. All the other stuff made me feel this guys were getting it back to basics, but this is drivel 🙁 Hope there is time left to improve some…

Looking forward to it when it's complete.

Also, I'm happy they showed the PS3 build of the game. I get nrvous when developers only show the Xbox build (we know what that means for the PS3 version of the game.)

I'm not sure. The last SH that I played was SH4, which, in my opinion, was probably one of the creepiest, even though it diverged from what the traditional SHs before it. Which brings me to think… Maybe Downpour is the same way. It may go away from what we traditionally want, but it could possibly be a good game on its own.

I'm not really hyped up for Downpour, and this demo didn't really help to get me off the fence either. I'll have to see some more before making a definite decision on this game. Either that, or a few reviews. Being the SH fan I am, I will be disappointed to possibly see another SH game die because of terrible reviews.

Going a bit off topic here, but I thought it's worth a mention anyway.

In case you haven't read the recent news on the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that Resident Evil 1 (Director's Cut), Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers later this month. Aside from that Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica will be available to PS+ subscribers for half the price upon their release. No way am I going to miss this! This might just be my chance to get on board the RE train.

This could possibly be one of the best months for PS+ members. The service just keeps paying for itself!

Anyway, I wonder if something similar would happen for Silent Hill one of these days.

And since we're on the topic of survival horror games, I just wanted to say how much I miss the Fatal Frame games. I loved Fatal Frame II!

Yeah, lots of fun in Fatal Frame. Tecmo should bring it back.

Too bad they made the new games Nintendo-exclusive. And worse? Only in Japan. What's Tecmo smoking?!

Maybe they'll keep the Japanese commentary in the game and it'll be more of a comedy. We can hear the girl saying "ooooooooooooh" everytime something scary appears, kind of like the cued laughter at sitcoms.

The framerate isn't the best, but as long as the horror factor is there I'm ok. It's what the series is all about after all. However, I'm not going to get my hopes up as Team Silent has nothing to do with this. I still have faith it'll be better than Homecoming though.

I really miss the creepy music that Akira Yamaoka put out. It was always subtle, but creepy (aside from some parts that seems like someone was banging on a piano). It seems like they put loud noises here everywhere here just to remind us "ok, time to be scared now, that was your cue to jump". I hope there's more to the scare factor than that.

I thought the sound was done pretty well, and the fighting seemed clunky and requires proper timing, just like the old games. So that gives me a little hope.

However…

At any given time, you can see WAY too much of the surrounding environment. Part of what made the old ones scary (the first one specifically) is that you often couldn't see more than a 10-foot radius around the character. The radio was the only indication that a monster was near, and sometimes even that was misleading. Since this looks like an early build, I'm hoping that they'll remedy that. I'll still give it a shot, but I have to say my expectations went down overall after watching this video.

really looking forward to this shame its coming out in november.
whether its a proper silent hill game or not remains to be seen, but it definitely is looking like the closest thing to a survival horror game we have gotten in years!
