As we told/warned you earlier, the Call of Duty XP weekend would very likely deliver a host of new information for Modern Warfare 3 .

And after Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg detailed the premium subscription service for Call of Duty Elite, Infinity Ward boss Robert Bowling stepped up to hand out some crucial – and surprising – multiplayer details .

Some of the more important pieces of information include: Support Killstreaks won't reset when you die, weapons get better the more you use them (reduced sway, kick, recoil, etc.), and a new game mode call Kill Confirm. In this mode, you need to snag dog tags from fallen players in order to get credit for the kill; if an ally dies, you can grab the tag before the assailant and the kill won't count. Here's some more:

I don't play CoD online enough to make any informed comments; perhaps some PSXE posters can do it for me. 😉 How does this stack up to what we know about the Battlefield 3 multiplayer? Are you happy about the alteration to killstreaks and that RPG-like system where weapons become more effective with use? Also, if you missed it, make sure to check out that MW3 multiplayer world premiere .

Sweet Jesus, my eyes are going to be glued to this screen for a good couple of minutes.

Thanks for the article Ben.

Edit: Those are most (if not all) good news. This game is really starting to look good now. My main gripe is how awkward some of the weapons look, such as the AK-47 this year. It just looks botched. I hope they fix that. And why do we need 2 MP5s???

Just saw some gameplay videos from Call of Duty XP, and my claim of botched weapons is even stronger. This year's Spas-12, for example, looks awkward compared to the MW 2's version.

The way the guns look when the player runs also looks a bit awkward to me. Minor details but they do annoy me.

Please tell me your kidding, everything I have seen about MW3 screams "Been there done that, in 2009".

@BeezleDrop

That may be somewhat true, but I still support the series as it has provided me with more entertainment than a large number of serious out there. If you don't like it, fine, no one is forcing you to like it. But to say everything is the same is absolutely absurd.

@TheManOfAction

I am working on the album. I hope you will buy it when it comes out. 🙂

Meh, I will always prefer MAG to any CoD. MAG is the only multiplayer game I've played regularly.

I hope this changes with Battlefield 3 but that seems unlikely seeing as I prefer SP games like Skyrim and Assassin's Creed to multiplayer focused shooters, MAG being the exception.

This is all good news we'll just have to wait and see because bouncing bettys were over powered in World at War.

It's not that they were overpowered, it's just that they were very hard to see and quick to explode. They were just really effective in the game.

Clamedeus

Well, it's an explosive, it should be very lethal. I hate when people can live through a Valkryie Rocket in black ops, I mean come on. Same with Claymores unless you use Flak Jacket, I've actually had people without flack jacket live through my claymore I had on the ground.

Some sniper rifles should be a one hit kill, like the Barret 50, or the Cheytac Intervention M-200, and the L96, you don't get a lot of one hit kills with the L96, but some how I get more 1 hit kills with a PSG-1.

And the way the damage is for the weapons doesn't make any sense, considering the guns have different caliber cartridges.

Nice to hear last stand is gone , i wonder what noobs will replace it with .

I hope that the fact you re weapons become more effective with use won t make the game unbalanced ( not sure they are smart enough to make sure of that ) , i was so tired of seeing the same weapon all the time in black ops ( the godly famas and ak74 especially ).

Any news if the knife changed to something more fair .Like only 1 shot if you stab someone in the back .At least make it so it take longer to hit with it .

The only godly weapon in that game was UMP.

FAMAS and AK-47, along with Scar-H were also very powerful.

Nas-

Actually the Famas is the most unbalanced weapon in that game, and any game. In fact there have been numerous attempts from MLG players to get it banned in competition. It's just so un real it makes the developers look pathetic.

Might be different on the PC version, but I was speaking from the console version.

Not only is the UMP easily the most used gun, but getting kills with it is so easy. Most of the deaths I have are definitely from a UMP.

You are forgetting the TAR-21, that gun is very powerful as well.

The FAL as well if you put a Holographic sight on it and a silencer it makes it a 2 hit kill with chest shots. (I've tested it)

If this game can also offer dedicated servers on the consoles and the PC, it would be amazing.

If not, I hope they modified and improved the host changing system they got in Modern Warfare 2.

Why does every video not even excite me in the least? The latest one they showed, with the bouncing land-mine thing, looked dated. It was fun to see the same exact animations from 07' to 11'. I'm not hating on CoD because its cool I just genuinely am enormously unimpressed. MW1 was really fun and I enjoyed [email protected] but after those, the game breaking bugs made me quit.

I refuse to support Developers and a Publisher that clearly is by the numbers annually and clearly has millions of extra money to create a new engine from the ground up. I'm convinced if most of the IW team didn't defect MW2.5 would seem a bit more impressive.

I'm hoping my friends don't buy it that way I don't have to deal with buying it 😀

I would like some more explanation to the things mentioned. Like whats a support streak, do you get to give your team mates a moral boost? Why would they bring bouncing betties from World at War into this game? I thought they hated Treyarch! Concentrated gun on gun combat and close quarters combat…isn't that what CoD IS?!?

I'm probably gonna be the only one who says this but i liked shotgun as secondary and commando.
1) Who uses pistols anyway?…
2) Commando usually kept the distance between people which i liked.
3) Hopefully they have dual-log in for splitscreen this time.

They got rid of marathon, lightweight as well which is weird. And they changed sleight of hand. The pro version is now switch weapons faster.
Quick ADS is a new perk called quickdraw

If by Thermal Scopes you mean Heartbeat Sensor, then I agree.

Then again no game is perfect, and even though I really don't like HS, I'll still buy the game.

No dedicated servers on the console either…smh!

Underdog15

You guys are worried about thermal scopes and heartbeat sensors?

I never understand why people get so upset about heartbeat sensors… there's a perfectly good perk called "ninja" that negates it… it doesn't even need to be leveled or anything. It is the only attachment that can seal a win in game modes like Search and Destroy.

It isn't even a crutch. I've seen people use it and suck hard. I use it and win regularly. But it isn't like I need it. I use it for an advantage… because everyone wants to be a witchblader and leap across a map for a knife kill despite bullets are being sprayed in your face (which, by the way, is a million times more cheap than heartbeat sensor or … thermal scope? lol… also blockable by cold blooded…. There is no perk to block a witchblader. Even bullets don't work.)

Anyways, I move that both of your suggestions aren't bad. I had no heartbeat in Black Ops, and my K/D there is over 2.5. In MW2, my K/D is a modest 1.6.

The -real- worry needs to be with in-game design flaws used as exploits… IE: Quick scope glitching.

If you get owned by a heartbeat user or a thermal scope user, that's your own damn fault. I use cold blooded (or stopping power pro) and I ALWAYS use ninja. I never get owned by cheap tricks like that. And those stupid witchbladers with marathon and lightweight? I see them coming from a mile away. Because guess what? That… is NOT… very tactical.

Yeah I know Ninja Pro is the solution, but that's the thing. It's the only thing that prevents me from being shown on a small radar. And this gets annoying in matches, especially Search and Destroy because it takes away the "search" part of the name. The whole point of the match is self-explanatory; you search for your enemies then destroy them. If you know where your enemy is with an attachment you can use whenever you feel like it, it makes the match less fun. Aside from that, it also means my options for the green perk slots get very limited. If I use anything else but the Ninja Pro, I'm going to be exposed. So if I don't want to be exposed, I only have 1 option. Lame!

Edit: For the record, Hardcore Search & Destroy is my primary game mode in Modern Warfare games online. I play it about 90% of the time.

I play search all the time as well.

I really like Ninja pro, though. Less for the heartbeat avoiding and more for the silent footsteps. Being silent pays off HUGE in that mode. It's also important, I find, to use a silencer on your weapon so when you shoot it, people don't immediately know where you are.

You have to be careful like that, I think. There are no second chances. You die, you're dead for that round. The only other green perk I would like to use in that mode is SitRep. That is really the only other useful perk for that mode. I also use claymores to protect my back. Personally, I don't know why everyone doesn't use heartbeats.

I play with 2 other guys, typically. We all use heartbeats. 2 of us use ninja, while the other uses sit rep. When on offence, we ALWAYS move as a team. It's fantastic. We almost never lose. People inevitably call us names and send mean messages about our heartbeats… but I mean… it's funny. We tell them straight up before a match… "Well, dude… just so you know, we're going to keep using them. So use ninja." And they won't… lol So I dunno… I think people have to choose what their strengths and weaknesses are going to be. I usually do well, but claymores will end me if I'm not careful.

Equally, if I use cold blooded, it will take me longer to kill people, and I'm at a disadvantage versus someone with stopping power.

I dunno.. the only things I think are dirty are design flaws… like quick scoping. That's dirty and not likely intentionally put in the game. Noob Tubes are cheap too, I suppose, but I do have a blast shield class when playing against people that use them alot.

It's a game of strengths and weaknesses, I guess. And yeah… you might prefer a perk other than ninja, but you have to be willing to accept that people will see you on heartbeats. I use ninja… but the silent footsteps are huge enough of a help in Search. That part alone is -very- useful.

I thought I'd point out that Bouncing Betties are not coming back from World at War (they're way too different). They're coming back from Modern Warfare 2. If you played the campaign mode, you'd know where from. 😉
