The Call of Duty Elite service for fans of Activision's blockbuster franchise has already been detailed, but we never really knew what to expect from the top membership tier.

If you're willing, the subscription service will deliver all sorts of extra content, including multiplayer maps, spec ops missions, and new game modes. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed that full-year access for the premium Elite subscription will run you $50.

Those who don't wish to pay will receive free content but if you hand over the fifty bucks, you get additional perks, like access to all pieces of DLC, delivered on a monthly basis. If you're wondering, the total cost of all that DLC would run you $60 without the subscription. As for signing up, you'll automatically be enrolled if you pick up the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ; it will cost you $99.99 but it includes a lifetime founder status in the Elite service.

Furthermore, premium Elite members will be allowed to participate in competitions for prizes (both real and virtual). As an example, Activision plans to give away a special CoD-themed Jeep to a lucky Call of Duty Elite beta participant. Plus, paid members can level up clans and receive 8 times more video-capture capacity, and they can view strategy and analysis from some of the best players in the world. You don't want to miss Elite TV, either, which features episodic content and guys like Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Ridley and Tony Scott.

So, plan to sign up?

Wait. So if someone subscribes to this "service" (i use that term very broadly here), they get the DLC for a year, but if someone buys the DLC normally they keep it forever?

I'm not interested either way, but it sounds like the usual DLC cash grab.

I think they get to keep it forever also. Not sure but either way I think this is bad news. People sign up for this and more devs might start thinking they can do it.

you keep the dlc. this is basically buying map packs before you know if they're worth it.

Only thing that makes me tempted to get it is to watch Will Arnett and Jason Bateman doing their show. Those guys are pretty funny, and I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development.

But what's the bet it'll wind up on Youtube sooner or later.

$150 for the Hardened Edition in Australia!?!?

Pass.

thats dirt cheap!
the game alone is 120 so your getting all the DLC and subscription for only 40 bucks!
MUCH better then the crap $ony charges for their LEs, 300 for the GT5 sig edition, 250 for the GOW3 and KZ3 edition.
even the resistance 3 and uncharted 3 limited editions are a bloody rip off!
100 USD is 208 AUD now is it?

johnld
johnld

but call of duty limited editions are stupidly cheap quality. you really dont get much for it. hardened edition was about 80 in the previous game. they added 20 bucks to make you think you're getting a good deal by giving you a 1 year elite subscription.

___________
___________

1st which ones arent?
the hig helmet from the KZ3 edition (which was 100 bucks more then this ill add) felt like it was made out of plastic that came out of a Tim Tam packet!
how is it not a good deal?
the game itself if you bought the standard edition is 120 AUD.
so your getting a 1 year subscription which they normally charge what 80AUD?
plus all the other crap in there no matter how cheap it is.
thats 200+ AUDs worth of crap for 150 AUD!
how is that not a great deal?

……Ugh, you know the sad par is most users are gunna do this, menign XBL users are going to pay: the subscription to XBL, plus $60+ for Cod every year, plus $50 for this stupid thing. This… This is going too far.

I just think elite is the stupidest thing ever. It just another way to capitalize on the games success. It's a great business move, but just an outrageously ridiculous thing to bring to customers.

Bugzbunny109

Activision will always find more ways to exploit money from their customers. By creating this Elite Service, assuming that a majority of COD players pay for it, Activision will approximately double their profits.

It is very intelligent because, if a player pays $50 for Elite, by the time it runs out, a new COD will have come out. Then the previous title will become obsolete; thus the player will have practically wasted money on the previous game. The player would then buy the new COD and Elite membership to fulfill his or her COD rush.

It would not surprise me if Activision hypes the hell out of Elite. In fact, I expect them to do so. Don't be surprised to find Call Of Duty Elite posted everywhere on MW3. By doing this, they will make non-Elite members feel left out. Subsequently, they would then delve and waste their money on a worthless service. This is a cycle that will keep happening every year. I do not understand how someone could be spending $110 on a game that they will not play in the next year. If people do not have a problem with this, then I guess the economic decline is not as bad as I thought.

It makes me wonder. Activision's profits are copious. Yet, they still cannot create a new engine to bring some form of significant change in their games graphically or gameplay wise. If Activision is not putting much of its money in the games it creates, I wonder where all the money is going…

What's Lifetime Founder Status?

Qubex

The whole thing stinks. I mean for the people who like this sort of thing great. I don't mind playing Killzone, BF etc, and enjoy a nice shooter romp every now and again… but to continually leak money from people in this economy, incredible.

I guess that is capitalism… put it out there, if the market likes it, you become a millionaire… good for you. Activision knows how to spin their wares… lets see how successful it is…

Only people who cherish their virginity, dont like the sun, dont like women, dont like sex, dont like the outdoors, dont like having a job, dont like the idea of looking for a job, dont plan on starting a family, dont like socializing, and pretty much enjoy not having much a friggin life will know doubt sucker up and buy a f-ing lifetime founding membership of this crap. Call of duty series has gone way out of perportion. It became successful because of 3 main reason. 1. At the TIME its realistic and immerse visuals 2. its many variety of real world weapons and very deep customizations and perks. 3. Its addictive like crack/heroin. And eventually was and still the top selling franchise in history of man. Which inevitability forced developers of other fps and shooter styled games to abandon there way of logical thinking to come up with there own ideas to develop new and unique IP etc which differentiated itself from the pack and pull new fans in and inevitability caused these SAME developers to make mediocre carbon copy cod clones. Most shooters now in the market feel and ARE heavily cod inspired in hopes of better game sales. It also caused franchises of other fps games to "devolve" and adapt to cod style mechanics to pull in potential gamers which is sad. Hold on i aint finished, lets not forget the money robbing DLC at first it was $10.Now its a rediculous $15 and like most crack/heroin addicts there constant need for a fix and ignorance to its negative effects swallow there pride and buy this crap and seeing how gamers buy with minimal complaints showed craptivision were all gaming crack addicts we dont care for the price hike just feed me a constant fix to keep the gaming high going! Now the days of $10 cod map packs are gone and with the zillions of dollars craptivision makes and gamers need for a fix were thrown a "new" cod game every year for $60 with a 3 hour single player campaign with the same non evolved dated graphics engine, same cookie cutter sound design/effects, same camp style swat (SitWaitAndTalk) gameplay, same weapons, and in all hammer us with a $15 pricetag for waves of dlc. Like all money hungry drug dealing tyrants they come up with sceams to bleed there customers dry with products and "services" to better enhance there experience with this thing called call of duty elite services. LoL DLC my culo. Yeah DLC DoneLosingCash for me from now on.

the hardened edition is actually a really good deal when you think about it.
you get all the usual DLC stuff, book art, and a 1 year subscription for 160 bucks!
the game itself is 120, so im paying 40 bucks for all the DLC and a 1 year subscription.
not bad, not bad at all!

Qubex

Well, you can enjoy it… I earn well but my gaming is always on a "budget", i simply look for value… The extra edition stuff is great, but not really necessary I think for the most part, unless you are crazy about such things.

Dillinger is right I think… no life = muchos money down the gaming toilet when it is not necessary to have the same amount of fun in a balanced way…

As someone posted before me,the 360 has a deal for a 30 day exculsive content. Yet the Elite service says we get early access to the same exclusive DLC. SO does that mean only the 360 gamers will get the DLC early and the PS3/PC 30 days later? Does that not make Elite worthless for the PS3/PC gamers?
