DICE: The Console Versions Of Battlefield 3 Won’t Suck

Because EA started by showing high-end PC footage of Battlefield 3 , the knee-jerk reactions began.

But DICE would like to remind everyone that in fact, the upcoming shooter will indeed be released on consoles and no, those versions won't suck.

Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach said they're starting to show "more and more console" because they want to prove that BF3 is pretty damn impressive, regardless of platform. Said Bach:

"We want to show off the console version, and people shouldn’t be too worried about it. We are shipping it on console."

Obviously, if you'd like a little extra detail, you can always boost your PC or build/buy a new one, but DICE maintains that console owners won't be disappointed. Bach also added that the beta test for BF3 should be coming "soon," so maybe we'll get a chance to see how the PS3 version of the game looks.

In all honesty, we're not really concerned.

I'm not too worried about it. Battlefield tends to have it where it counts… Gameplay!!! The pretty graphics are just a bonus. If Battlefield looks anything like BFBC 2, then i'm just fine with it.

Anyone could see this happening a mile away, aggressively showing the PC verion was a bad idea and they left it to long to show console naturely console owners would think the worst.

I'm sure the game will look and play great, but I find it very difficult to enjoy other FPS games when I am playing another. I will be playing Resistance 3 and will be enjoying that until Fall 2012 lol. When it comes to shooters I have a preference to choose games that have a mixture of realism and fiction (i.e Killzone & Resistance). It's good that Dice came up and said the game will be looking great (which is to be expected) and it will hopefully serve as a learning experience to not show just PC footage in their upcoming titles.

I'm sure it will be great on consoles as long as you don't look at too many PC screens or come over to my place and witness all the mods and 64people battling it out.

Yah that's right. There was a big thing about it when one of the devs said the game was too advanced for the mod community.

I love how people take a quote and go way off base with it. It's true that BF3 won't have mod tools when it is first released but it will eventually get mod support down the line. This is actually normal for PC gaming and I don't see how people could take what was originally said and think it wont be getting mods.

Sorry to burst your bubble console FPS fans.

Reality is Pandacastro, the PC version of BF3 will probably be cracked wide open to support mods. We are talking PC here, anything and everything is possible… no game has gone untouched…

I dunno, it's kinda sad to me when people look to or rely on mods for whatever reason, when they should just be able to enjoy the game as it is.

Battlefield 3 will definitely be awesome. I recently finished BFBC2, and I loved the graphics and destructive environments.
What I had a lot of trouble getting used to were the controls… why do developers all have their own idea of the buttons for MELEE and CROUCH??

Seriously, the COD button setup is just fine. If other developers wants to have their own setup, then at least let the players choose their buttons as an option. How hard is that?

I do agree. Did not like the default layout on Killzone 2 (L2 for crouch for example, L1 for melee and R3 for aim).

Yes, but the beauty of K2 and K3 is that they have a button layout option to be COD-style. I believe it's called "Alternate 2".

Unfortunately, Resistance doesn't have a COD button layout option. I hope that changes for R3.

Maybe not, but both Resistance games have custom layouts that you can set it to being exactly as you like… If you want CoD, make it CoD.

64 multiplayers for PC against 24 multiplayers for consoles.

Now you tell me the console version isn't vastly inferior.

Well of course they say this… They wouldn't want you to skip their game. Of course the PC version will be the shiznit, but it's not as though critics are going to compare the console versions to the PC and give it a 6. They'll compare it to other console shooters (or they bloody well should) and give it a solid 8.5, simply because it's damn hard for a shooter to be any more impressive than that (IMO, of course).

Yep They're simply trying to reposition the perspective gamers have been all up and arms over. They don't want to lose sales because of a notion that ps3/360 is getting PCs leftovers.

360 is getting PC leftovers and PS3 is getting 360 leftovers. I mean basically. Just imagine if they were allowed to make the PS3 version as good as it could be. It'd be like an exclusive.

I think people are just looking for a reason to down this game. It's going to be sweet no matter what. It's Battlefield. 24 players is still more than COD if I'm not mistaken. I think that's what BFBC2 had to and it was just fine. I just don't understand how any body can even compare this to MW3, MW3 isn't even in BF's class. It is below Battlefield.

I think MW3 will support 32 players this time around. That's what I heard anyways.

"We are shipping it on console."

What the hell? Where did that come from? Guy must be retarded or drunk. Everybody already knows that it's coming to consoleS.

PC guys, you have the best graphics okay? Now just shut up and stop bothering us about it.

Eh, don't trouble yourself too much about it World. There's a lot of ways to appreciate the look of a game outside of the technical side of things. While a handful of PC games can really do some thick stuff with texture size and depth, poly counts, and lighting precision etc., there's many other ways games can be made to look awesome. Look at Shadow of Colossus, GoW3, Uncharted 2, and Infamous 2 etc., in more ways than one those games are achieving things in their own respect (production, design, artistic direction) that stand up with the "best looking" of any format, and few games animate, if any, as well as several premium console game do today.

biggest problem with PC gaming is developers dont give a f*ck about it!
if i had a nickel for every time i had to email tech support to get the blazing game working properly id be a multimillion by now!
im practically best friends with the nvidia driver team, im almost emailing them weekly!
console games you just pop in and away you go.
PC games are constantly freezing, frame rate issues, installation issues.

the witcher 2 for example i had to reinstall it 6 times, 5 times it said some files were missing and i had to restart the whole installation process.
or red faction armageddon, for some reason it keeps dropping to like 5FPS at every cut scene only way i can boot it back up to 60 is to alt tab out then back in then it goes back up to 60 then back to 5 at the next cut scene.
i honestly spend more time getting the blazing games to work then i do playing them!
not to mention 99% of games use steam now so you have to sit there and wait for them to update.
i got a new rule now, if i want to play on my PC i turn it on at least a hour before i want to start playing.
that way it gives me plenty of time to screw around and get it working.
then theres the whole debacle of SLI profiles, most games dont get one for weeks if not months after release!
in short not worth the headache!

I hear ya'
The PC environment can be frought with upsets, like blue screens of death, program launching woes, driver issues, stability issues, bugs etc.
Sometimes I pride myself in fixing those problems myself by going in and editing config files from within the game directory, like I did for Torchlight the other day.
And I think SLI is generally a waste of money.

Anyway keep up some of the most entertaining reads on PSXe 😉

SLI totally is worth it, just need to learn how to play around with nvidia inspector.
only thing though its never as efficient as official profiles, but its better then nothing.
nvidia really need to get there finger out and have SLI profiles for games ready on launch!
if battlefield 3 and RAGE dont have a SLI profile on launch there going to have allot of flaming bags to stamp out!
3D profiles too, bulletstorms one for example is still really buggy.
ACB just got a SLI and 3D profile a few weeks ago, a good 6 months after release!

I'm skeptical, the footage i've seen dosen't look as good as I had hoped. The scopes in particular just don't look like they have the realistic vibe to them compared to what i've seen on the PC. Either way I keep thinking back to how good Bad Company 2 looks and stop worrying.

WorldEndsWithMe

Do the scopes have the fisheye thing going on? That kinda bugs me when they do.

whats the definition of soon?
driving me nuts!
the beta is suppose to be this month, so how can they be weeks away and not have a date ready?
battlelog just went back online a few days ago that means they just started testing the stuff for the beta, a little late no?
ah well, im just dying to see what they have changed.
only been like a month since i last played it and im already suffering from withdrawal.
hope they let us choose which platform we want our code for the beta.
i bought MoH on my ps3 but obviously i dont want the beta for my ps3 i want it for my PC.

In terms of graphics, I know for a fact that Battlefield 3 will have jaggies on my ps3. Every game has it (for me, I'm not referring to anyone else's systems). The only reason I'll be getting Battlefield 3 on ps3 is because I suck at using mouse+keyboard.
