We're big fans of Sega's super fun Yakuza franchise, which is why we hope this is true.
Originally, we had heard Yakuza: Of the End would be the last title in the series. It features a definite gameplay twist, in that this time, we'll have the option of firearms (hand-to-hand was always the staple).
But now, according to Just Push Start , Sega is apparently working on Yakuza 5 , and it'll be released next year. We assume they're referring to a Japanese date, but who knows? They also say to expect a sequel to Black Panther , the solid PSP title.
If they are working on a fifth Yakuza , we're sort of hoping that they return to the standard formula. But then again, what do we know? We haven't played Of the End yet…could be amazing.
I've never played this series. I just don't seem to have the time to see how good it is. I don't know if I would like it. But cool for the fans if it's true.
If you are into anything Japanese then it's for you.
i think world got it right. i like japanese women and i love the yakuza series. although i love their anime too. i think i need another 1.5 terabyte drive since my old one is getting quite full.
u can put a tera gig or more in the PS3? If so, I thought it was up to 500 gigs.
its an external drive that i formatted to FAT32 to work on my ps3
Yes a sequel of Black Panther on the Vita would be great.
Played the demo of Yakuza of the End it was actually pretty good but the control wasn't my cup of tea.
Your picture is different on my DroidX, how odd.
lol!
Hell YES!
I hope my hero Kiryu Kazuma is back.
I hope it is for both PS3 and PS Vita.
Give the guy a break. He just wants to live in peace with the orphans.
Im with you Kiryu, but that would mark the 3rd time he is pulled from retirement. Kiru needs to live in peace with his children now, i say.
The new characters on 4 were all fun, especially Akiyama, i wouldn't mind fleshing them/him or someone new out with, at a push, Kazuma giving advice from the sidelines.

Akiyama is the best. He should get his own game.
Yeah it would count as the 4th time he's coming out of Retirement.
Even if they can't bring him back atleast a guest appearance should be there by Kiryu.
and Majima should make a comeback.
Majima my Second favorite Character in the Yakuza Series.

@world
i like akiyama's character alot, the lifeline of kamurocho. a guy who has a lot more money than he needs and just goes around lending it to those who need it, testing each client. as much as i would like him to have his own game, combat wise hes not that well rounded like kazuma.
Id say the cop has a better chance to get his own game. you know, an actual honest cop. all i know is rio from the hostess club needs to return, hahaha.
Tanimura was actually my fave! loved his fighting style, but Akiyama was the most charismatic of the bunch I don't mind a game just for him.
good to hear. love this franchise. i think yazuza 2 is the best in the series. incredible story
After the unbelievable Yakuza 4, i just don't know how better this franchise can get….consider it a most wanted.
actually, i prefer yakuza 3(not the us localized version) to 4. i liked how yakuza 4 switched perspective and all but i rather follow just one persons view for more fluidity.
Yes, i also prefer that style, but Yakuza 2 had that at it's peak and 3 ended up being more of the same, but with a few politics thrown in.
4 seemed fresh again and each character was so gripping that i just couldn't put the controller down, that along with all the new features, especially the fighter training minigame, made it the best yet for me.
As much as it pains me to say, it does need to end soon as the plot is stretched out to max and 4 ended great.
Of The End looks great!
Of the End is just a spinoff, we won't see it and the fighting controls should return in a real sequel.
I'm down, but I'd like to see them open it up a bit. The little city and railed off streets felt confining. Great games, but aren't the boys busy with Binary Domain?
i never really found yakuza confining at all. i always found stuff to do to even notice it. i spent my time completing the list of heat actions like tearing off a persons nail/tooth with a pair of pliers or burning someones face with a portable stove. i played through yakuza 3 completely twice then moved directly to yakuza 4 and i didnt get tired of it at all. i actually got yakuza 3 free when i bought yakuza 4. i wish they left yakuza 3 alone like they did 4. i had fun playing those japanese games without knowing what i was doing initially. hostess clubs were interesting too.
I mean physically confining. There's tons to do, but the city is kind of like the opposite of your GTA styled city, you can't traverse much and your character stops mid-stride when you are a meter away from buildings.
I haven't played this series. Am I really missing something great?
Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: Hell yes.
This and the Persona announcements… this is a good night. 🙂
what persona announcements?
Yeah, what World said!
P4: The Golden is coming on Vita and apparently the Persona Team have finished work on the engine that they intend to use on "the next numbered entry".
Also, P4: The Ultimate, a fighting game based on P4 from the BlazBlue team.
OMG!!
It's been confirmed! Famitsu broke the news, but Sega still has their presser to do sometime soon.
meh.
unless there truly bringing it into the 21st century im not interested.
yakuza 3 was ok, nothing special, but i could not help but feel i was playing a ps2 game!
looked terrible, and freaking text boxes?
in the 21st century, freaking text boxes?
really!?
if i want to read a harry pothead book id read a harry pothead book, not play a game!
That made no sense.
how so?
ill only be interested in a new yakuza game if they properly bring it up to date instead of bringing a ps2 game to the ps3.
dumbed down enough for ya?
I'm just baffled you think Yakuza reads like Harry…erm…"Pothead"….
…. 😉
where did i say the games like harry pothead?
i said if i want to READ a harry pothead book id read a harry pothead book not play a game!
i cant understand why some of the dialogue is normal audio, then the rest is 100000 line text boxes!
Great game for those obsessed with japanese culture, but it just doesn't do it for the masses.
