Well, New York did it. Why not the new Elder Scrolls ?

In games where freedom is key, we should be able to do anything we want. We should be able to marry any eligible bachelor or bachelorette, regardless of our own gender. Right? Well, if you support this idea, you'll like such freedom of choice in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim . Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines confirmed on his Twitter page that you'll be able to "marry anyone."

"@Jadis232 Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone."

He later clarified that we can't technically marry "anyone" (not all NPCs count), but for the most part, gender shouldn't matter. We've heard similar things about Mass Effect 3 and…well, we at PSXE aren't stupid enough to comment on the issue one way or the other. And while it's always a big subject of debate – as it always is in real life – we must ask: please don't get involved in a moral or political debate in the Comments. Please. I just don't have the strength to deal with it.

I didn't even know there were relationships in skyrim, cool!

Likewise, that's a pretty cool add. Atleast relationships might add another type of play to the already amazing sounding game. I.e. if your not into questing or exploring, you can hunker down and provide for a family.

One thing confuses me though, and it could be the way I read it. You can't marry "anyone" (npcs don't count)

So who the hell can you marry or be in a relationship with? Cause isn't your character the only non-npc?

I think they mean you can't just marry a nobody beggar on the street that is basically a piece of scenery. I imagine they mean you can romance and marry certain people who have a part in the plot or at least the bigger quests.

Me neither! Skyrim just did a good jump up my priority list now.
This is starting to look like a Bioware level game. From bethesda?! Here's hoping!

Seriously, World? I've only played Fallout 3, New Vegas and Oblivion from them (I think…), but I did not find much human relations (of any kind) in any of those? It felt like the companions in those games were there for battle strategy only… Much like most other games where you got companions to choose from.

The original "retraction" said (paraphrasing) "not *any* NPC"; Ben just overlooked the adjective.

Forget marriage; I just want to be able to hit NPCs with a healing spell (FFS, stop moving, you idiot!) and give them equipment.

;D

Regardless of whether you can actually marry anyone or not, I'm just really glad they've upgraded the character interaction side of the game, because that's really where oblivion was lacking.

ah, well when I said "this kind of thing" I mean RPGs. You sounded like a newb a little there, as far as relationships go yeah I don't see anything they do thats special. But then nobody beats Bioware in this territory so I wouldn't expect that.

Skyrim's god shall smite them.

…. or maybe not. I guess you could always break the game and delete god's code from it.

Same sex marriages for all!!!!!

Marriage is cool and all in real life… but in the gaming world, why not run around having affairs with anything that walks without any consequences?

Is there an option to just be a roving "player"? I mean… it's not like you ever settle down in one town anyways!

You could get really creative…

"Hey you! I remember you… You were in our village last year! Remember me?" -Cassandra places a 3 month old infant on your lap. "yeah, you owe me 50% of your gold for child support, you SOB!"

Gold grinding just got a whole new meaning. (HA! Triple meaning!!)

@LV I played the first. I totally stole thunder's woman, too. And I didn't sign a pre-nup when I took that rich woman either. I also read on forums some people couldn't get her to sleep with them. I totally got her in the virtual sac.

I think it's very decent of them to have this available. If they include some powerful lesbian scenes maybe I'll make my character a woman 😉

It's an American game, you won't see anything even if there is lesbianism, homosexuality or even straight sex in the game.

European developers however….

I don't see why it would be a big deal since it is an option. It is not that you have to do it in order to progress in the game.

I'm just as, if not more offended, by a straight couple French kissing in public compared to a gay couple.

Platinum requires same-sex activity…that wouldn't fly.

Plus, it turns an option which is a consequence of the "maximum freedom" design into a political statement.

But I like it. **** the bigots who will be uncomfortable.

I have no issues with a hot chick mackin' it up with someone in public…

But as World said… if the guy's an ugly douchebag, I can't help but feel a little sick and incredibly sorry for the poor girl. She must have some insane insecurity issues.

My dad's a pastor. I've been in way too many debates about homosexuality/abortion/creation. The last place I want to debate is on a video game site. 😛

Either way, I'm definitely buying this game. GOTY for sure!!! 😀
