If you're a fan of fighting games, you're looking forward to the future blending of Street Fighter and Tekken .

And along with a bunch of new screenshots , Capcom has revealed a few other tidbits about the upcoming crossbreed. First of all, it'll boast the online features from Super Street Fighter IV (plus a few "surprises"), and that includes incoming challengers during the arcade mode and endless battle mode. As for a release date, the publisher estimates that Street Fighter X Tekken should be ready to go in Spring 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. That means we have some time to wait, and we sometimes wonder how it will stand up to the likes of Soul Calibur V . Completely different games, of course, but still… And who said the fighting genre would die out?

Well, I did, for one. I predicted the demise of the genre towards the start of this generation. …talk about being dead flat wrong. I was not wrong, however, in saying the Wii was just a passing fad . Plus one, damnit.

Can't say I'm too excited for this one either. Yep, I'm Debbie Downer today.

I'm interested in TvsSF, though.
But, like TTT2, I suspect it'll be more of a tag based juggle fest. I'm more into fighters with less emphasis on the sequence tapping and more on the combat strategy. Sigh, too bad VF has seemingly been forgotten.

I completely agree with you, Juggling has ruined Tekken, It's not a sign of a good gamer to knock an enemy in the air and hit him one side of the arena to the other. Tekken is more like an anime than a partially realstic matrial arts fighter ohh I remember the good ol' days…

Well at least with Tekken Hybrid I will get the original Tekken Tag in HD, to bad it comes with that joke of a movie.

I'm all over this. The color contrast is better than SSFIV. I'm not worried about the tag juggles as they use your super meter to pull off. There appears to be more or new individual combinations as well. It'll have to take fighters to another level before the next MK comes out

Meh, this is a sign of Tekken selling out,I don't intend to waste my money or time on either of the VS games.

I have this crazy idea. It's insane. Totally ludacris. I'm thinking maybe somebody should make a NEW FIGHTER IP. Sheeesh.

ACTUALLY:

A renowned fighting gamer Mike "Mike Z" Ziamont is making a fighting game called Skullgirls. It looks amazing, and has features that makes current fighting games look weak. The graphics look amazing (it's 2D sprites, but they're gorgeous) and the artstyle is great. Also, the soundtrack for the game is being composed by none other than Michiru Yamane, the genius behing Castlevania: SOTN's soundtrack. Check it out. Google Skullgirls for the website.

Edit: Also, the only new IP fighting game made by a respectable company for this gen is Blazblue. There are a few more new IP fighting games, but they're the ones that never make a console debut and are PC only.

2D sprite games don't count, they are for a small market.

Yeah because 2D fighters are what all gamers want and are so popular they rule the charts… *eyeroll*

@World: You asked for a new IP fighter, I gave you an example. When you say "fighter", then it includes all sub-genres. You should've been more specific.

Saying 2D sprite games are for a small market and don't count is stupid. A fighting game is a fighting game, what counts is the mechanics and the system, whether it's 2D sprites or 3D models is secondary and only up to personal preference. Dismissing all 2D fighting games JUST because they utilise 2D sprites, is, well… pretty stupid. But that's your preference, and unless you have proof that ALL fighting gamers don't want 2D sprites, it's not fair to imply YOUR preference is shared by all gamers, either.

Popularity in the charts? *looks at CoD* Pfffffthahahaha!

@Ultima: Obvious troll attempt is obvious. Stay free.

a fad thats outsold the ps3 and 360 ever since it came out, and put ninty back on the market!
only reason they can afford to release another system so soon is simply because of nintys success!
no one knows there fanbase better then nintendo!
so happy to see fighting games making a comeback!
i was worried they were going to go the way of the 2D platformer and survival horror game, but there bigger then ever!
hell look at the evo footage from the past few years!
