Assassin’s Creed Isn’t Afraid Of Big Bad Call Of Duty

With Call of Duty primed to dominate just about every holiday season these days, even the biggest titles are a little leery about competing with Activision's inevitable blockbuster.

But you know, there's one franchise that – come November – will have three entries in three years, and each one launched very near the new Call of Duty . It's Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed and although one might expect the game to labor in the shadow of CoD – as so many other games do – this series always seems to prevail. It doesn't just survive; it flourishes. Many millions of copies have been sold of Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood , and you can bet Assassin's Creed: Revelations will do extremely well. Sure, it'll launch within a week of Modern Warfare 3 but Ezio ain't scared.

Some will just say, "eh, they're two completely different games." Well, so are a lot of other titles that try to compete with CoD. AC's success is a testament to the franchise's splendid achievement in regards to overall quality and immersion. In fact, next to CoD and GTA, Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular franchises of the generation…and oh yes, it's a new series. It wasn't established until the original debuted back in 2007. But ever since then, gamers have clamored to pick up each new installment, regardless of the constant, never-ending hype surrounding Call of Duty .

Of course, there's room for a lot of great games this fall, but in regards to sales potential, most believe no title can compete with MW3 or Battlefield 3 later this year. …no title but Assassin's Creed: Revelation , that is. Watch it soar in November.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I'm going to pass on this one. I bought 1 and 2, and then I dunno, I just got tired of it? It's weird, they were great games and fun to play, but I just don't want to keep playing it. But oh well, good for Ubisoft in making a game they can get money from at least 🙂

I bought the first 2 close to release but waited for a price drop on Brotherhood. I'll do the same and wait it out for Revelations to drop a little.

The first AC is a crap game but since then they've got better and better even if the MP is only any fun for a couple of weeks before everyone's cheapness makes you hate people full stop! Was I the only one even TRYING to play it properly?

That may be fine for them, but let's face it, MW 3 will prevail over AC.

With that said, as much of a CoD fan as I am, I think I will be skipping MW 3. I saw the vids and was not very impressed.

Battlefield 3, on the other hand…

No, neither will "prevail;" over the other as their core markjets are different demographics imho. Plenty of room for a successful action/platformer no matter how many shooters are coming out, no?

Assassin's Creed, the single solitary game that I would love to see go for faster action and easier travelling (zip line = good idea) except when stealth kills are the object of course.

Back on topic, I'd be interested to see if any hardcore CoD fans are also hardcore AC fans and vice versa.

At least an AC has content worth $60.

AC:B had locations all over. It was an "underground access" or whatever. Walk up to it, enter, and choose which other access you want to pop up in. Was very handy.

I guess I wasn't clear, I mean I'd like it to be more parkour-friendly. If a man falling off a roof meant the roaming city guards got to kick his ass I'm glad I wasn't a roofer in that time period.

You guys kidding? There you are, wandering round your rooftop for the hundredth time, looking forward to the end of your shift when you get to go home to your beautiful wife and two kids when suddenly, without provocation someone lands on your back, pushing you to the floor, then rams a blade into your throat.

The last thought as you fade into darkness is "The cheeky bugger is rifling my pockets too!"

Is it just me, or is there a little less enthusiasm for MW3 compared to previous CoDs? Most people on many other gaming news sites are talking about getting Battlefield 3 instead.

Am yet to hear from the casual gamers. What's the bet they'll get MW3 since their friends are getting it.

Uncharted 3, Skyrim and MGS Collection are my 3 big games to get this November. If you don't compare them to CoD release sale numbers, I bet they'll do very well in November. I know I'd be happy with 1 million sales over 3 months! 🙂

Oh I'll definitely be getting mw3, the collectors edition too (i've gotten it for mw2 and bo so why not at this point) but that doesn't mean I'm praising the game, just getting it to finish off the story and entirely to play games with friends. I'll still be getting uncharted 2, probably obtain skyrym in some way..cough, and i'll definitely be buying bf3 d1.

I think that while MW3 will still be the biggest selling game of all time, it's becoming less and less popular to be a fan.

I think so too, it's just something people play together just because the sheeple have realized what it truly is finely. also I can't edit my last post but meant it to be uncharted 3* lol.

I've said it before, I got a feeling this is the beginning of the end of COD. Not that BF3 singlehandedly will tak over just like that, but it may very well be the game that started opening COD-fans eyes and made them more aware that there *are* alternatives.
And once they are awaken… Things might happen.

Truly if cod is to be number 2, battlefield will be the title to prevail. I see the same trend. Cod fans switching over that is. AC is still on my radar. Likely a d1p. But I'm with world, especially if ezio is gonna become a master assassin, ud think ubi could make the free running a bit free-er. We'll see in due time I suppose, but for the moment I'm content especially since it looks pretty rich in both sp and mp.

Assassin's Creed 2 is one of my favs of this gen, but Revelations didn't quite make my list of full price purchases. Maybe if reviews exceed my expectations it will.

Assassin's Creed caters to an entirely different group of people, so there's small wonder that it's facing off against CoD head-to-head.

That said, I'm sick to death of hearing about CoD. I can't believe that people are suckered into the BS about it being the BEST GAEM EVAR! 25 MILLON SAELS! Who gives a crap, we all know that the masses wouldn't know something truly great if it bit them on the a**e, yet they see fit to tout their mediocrity, while deriding anything that is, to anyone willing to open their eyes, obviously and infinitely superior because 'oh, it's not good'. Why is it not good tell me that. Because it doesn't fit into your definition of good? Objectivity reigns over subjectivity, so it doesn't matter what the individual, or even the masses think. Quality will always shine through, and consequently be rewarded. Call of Duty is in no way, shape or form deserving of the immense acclaim that it receives and the sooner that the bloody lemmings of this world realise it, the better off we'll be. If it, and its clones, continue to sell exceedingly well, we'll only see a further drop-off or 'refocussing' of the games and genres that gamers have played and loved over the forty years of history of the hobby.

ARGH! I've had it… plain and simple.

EDIT: Apologies for that. We all have to vent occasionally, right?

I don't understand how people can get so caught up in what others think. If it's not for you it's not for you. Even though I don't think it's "the best game(s) ever" I know they have flaws, ill be the first to point them out. But I still love the franchise and will buy every installment from here on out. It's simple, it has a quick pick up n play style, yet a very competitive community. That's why it sells, it caters to everyone, like it or not.

It's not that I care particularly, I just can't seem to escape it and THAT annoys me. Just like people who think that 'From Paris With Love' is one of the best movies of all-time, or Dracula is a kid's book. I need new friends :/

Both are different games, so I don't see why Assassin's Creed should be scared of Call of Duty.
Maybe it's the release dates are simular??????

On another note, didn't the developers of AC say this exact same thing back when Modern Warfare 2 (or maybe it was Black Ops) was coming out?

Call of duty, blah so sick of hearing about it already.Same generic FPS military shooter that has been sold over and over again these past few years.Did i not get the memo?-is everyone in on the joke?-it does not deserve remotely the attention it gets.

People play games to have fun – so if COD sells millions of copies and people play it for 100's of hours it must be FUN. So tired of all the hate for COD I keep reading on these websites – by the so called "hardcore" gamers.

Signed COD fanboy.

Nov. 8th – MW3 – BRING IT !!

I don't hate COD,i hate the way it has effected the gaming industry.Developers see how much money it brings in and wants to make a game that caters to those fans as well.Like square enix, even though final fantasy XIII is nothing like call of duty, they gave up the aesthetics that the fans loved most for "Flashy" linear gameplay.

Besides COD is the same thing every year,no improvements or additions, same shit different toilet.
