Some people think Treyarch will produce a sequel to their recent franchise offering, Call of Duty: Black Ops . But if so, that sequel would hold a different name.

Or maybe it's a new project altogether. The big rumor today started in various forums and linked to European website PS3Life.nl , where we find a logo for "Call of Duty 9: Project Iron Wolf." Of course, that's just a fan-made logo and there's every possibility that we're only looking at a codename for Treyarch's new CoD. And there's no guarantee the rumor is real, anyway:

It seems someone who works at Treyarch is on the Friends list of a gamer, who spotted that assumed employee playing Iron Wolf. There are pics from Xbox Live to support the claim, and you can also see the person playing Team Deathmatch on an unknown map. Personally, that throws up a red flag, just because I've often heard that developers don't embark on multiplayer until a great many assets are in place.

But then again, things change fast, and given the nature of the industry today – and especially of Call of Duty – I'm sure multiplayer is the top priority. So maybe that really is a Treyarch employee, and maybe CoD9 really is codenamed "Project Iron Wolf." We just don't know if that's a Black Ops follow-up or something new. Heck, maybe it isn't even a CoD! An entirely new IP! Wouldn't that be refreshing?

According to Wikipedia Iron Wolf is the name of a Lithuanian underground fascist movement from early 20th century, where some members were cooperating with the Germans during ww2.
Sounds like a potential setting for a future COD indeed!

… *and* it apparently also was the name of an official Lithuanian motorised infantry Brigade in that same time period.
Yeah this gotta be another COD. 🙂

Wow, I would really like if it was something to do with Lithuania as I'm originally from there.. but it's such a small country which didn't really contribute much to any wars for it to make into a game… However it will be cool to get a mention anyway. 🙂

i'm sorry but it goes way back. every call of duty so far shouldve been CALL OF DUTY 4: ______ Edition. just fill in the blanks with whatever skin they decide to use. perfect example is the "new" call of duty 4: goldeneye edition.

Yes release more, I wish there was 4 CoD games per year so finally people start to get tired of it.

My curiosity is already peaked. And it's not uncommon for a Call of Duty developer to start working on their next game in the series even before the current one has been released (in other words, Infinity Ward has been working on Modern Warfare 3 even before Modern Warfare 2 came out).

Where are those pics, by the way?

I think Treyarc should abandon their single and multiplayer and instead focus on making a 1st class Zombie only game. They have the best zombie mini game on any console right now.But it's just that,a mini game. How about the same style of zombies but on a much larger stage.Maybe something with 8,16,or even 32 players in an open world enviornment like GTA.The more city we open up the better and harder it gets, ect.Could even do competitive teams on mirror type maps.No other developer does zombies as good as Treyarc, but several do multiplayer much better.Or how about a MMO 3rd person type zombie game where everyone starts out in the same city(safe zone)and must venture out alone or in groups to find other cities(safe zones). The further you go the better the rewards.Instead of doing the wave after wave till it gets too hard as it is now. There would be day and night cycles with random zombies any and everywhere.Better loot at night, but much harder to survive without help.Do a map of the USA with 48 states and have everyone start out in the middle somewhere.Think ZOMBIELAND.Where you go and how you get their is up to you.If you die while venturing out or don't get revived by someone in your group you respawn back at the city(safe zone) you last visited.Vehicles for traveling(Mad Max Type),fuel is scarce but availible(fight off zombies at gas station while refueling),stores to loot, ect.Every major city would be a safe zone.MMO's are possible on our consoles.DC Universe & Fruity Realms are already here. But there's no Zombie MMO yet.I would be more than willing to pay a monthly fee for a MMO zombie game.Maybe it'll take a PS4 to pull off such a game but DC universe is here now and runs just fine.So does Fruity Realms so why not a MMO Zombie game?Treyarc style..

while i like the idea from what i could read of it. but about half way through i couldnt keep track of where i was. it was to much for one paragraph and made it hard to read. over all the idea you have sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

Random but this response is inspired by the posts in this article.

I think people should hop off the hating bandwagon. Call of Duty is a good franchise (in my and many others' opinion), and if your opinion differs, that's fine. But it's unnecessary to hate on it constantly at every chance you get, when realistically, the hate will accomplish NOTHING. Many people will still continue to buy the games whether you like it or not, and it will continue to be successful. Hoping people will get tired of it is just sad. Don't you have anything better to do with your time and hopes? Seriously, the levels of hate people go to these days is pathetic.

Nonsense, hating what is popular makes me feel like my choices are superior.

It's probably just the first $15 DLC map pack getting primed for a couple days after the game releases.

I'm staying on the hating wagon, I believe in pushing my hobby forward so I don't accept or support a game that needs to improve. I'm not backing off money hungry companies trying to nickel and dime me. So my reaction to this is simple…..this is…..this is…..boring.

Nobody is forcing you to purchase their product. So stop acting like it.

And nobody is forcing you to defend the game.

Typical CoD fanbase can't take the fact that people express they don't like the franchise or the awful direction Activision took with it.

I see people hating on it a lot more than I see people defending it. Who's really on the offensive here?

And the irony of your post is that I could just as easily say "typical CoD haters can't take the fact that people express they like the franchise and games".

Oh I'm sorry you feel I shouldn't express my distaste toward half ass products, truthfully they are not forcing me to buy anything (I haven't bought a COD game since MW2) but they are slowly killing other companies who do make AAA games out there. Therefore developers feel they must do they're games a little more in the COD style to sell, this effectively dumbs down games I play and directly affects me. When that happens I speak up.

No because I'm okay with that, I just replied because you did the.

''Nobody forces you to buy the game'' comment.

That wouldn't never stop someone to express themselves.

i think its already confirmed that they were working on call of duty 9 for a long time now. they even released a few demos; [email protected], modern warfare 2, and black ops. Theres really nothing that differentiates all these games, minor changes aside, and from what activision has been doing call of duty 9 wouldnt be any different.

nothing there says its COD, so im hoping its something different.
hopefully treyarch are sick of doing COD and want to try something different.
i really enjoyed QoS they did a pretty good job on it.
id love to see them tackle it again, and hopefully add heaps more gadgets and stealth to make it feel like a proper bond game.
come on enough of this military shooter BS!
