It's bloody and brutal, and it might just be the fast-paced zombie-slayin' game you crave.
The intriguing Dead Island has gone gold, and it'll be on store shelves on September 6. It shares the launch day with Insomniac's Resistance 3 but while both games are played from a first-person viewpoint, I think we can all agree that both are quite different from one another. Also, if you haven't seen the co-op side of Deep Silver's production, check out the new trailer released today.
Featuring a hectic survival concept in which players must use anything they can find as a weapon, Dead Island combines fast-paced action with several deeper, RPG-like elements that enhance the experience. And let's not forget that tremendously well-presented CG trailer that has wowed the gaming population.
…no, the game won't look like that. But it should still be fun.

you know what. seeing the techland logo before the trailer is my biggest worry here. they made that awful call of juarez game. i think we have b level game here that had a great cgi trailer. a cgi trailer that in no way represents the gameplay by the way. too much sun in the trailer too. i want dark and apocolyptic settings in my zombie games…not fun in the sun with zombies.
still, i love zombies and it could be fun in a L4D sort of way. we really haven't had a great zombie game yet on the ps3. i would love for a developer to take on making a great zombie game with serious overtones. kind of like the tone in the walking dead series or the tone of the first trailer of this game.
They also made nail'd. Don't condemn a developer for one bad game…that's always a mistake.
Personally, I like the setting they used. A tropical paridise eden like island, with sun and parties… and zombies.
They took the whole undead thing from the norm and put it somewhere that will either make it very unique, or or a flop. And honestly, imo this game looks likes gonna be effing epic.
I just watched the trailer with the little girl last night, and it got. My hopesup. I know that was the cg and not the gameplay, but still, with the atmosphere this game offers I think dead island will do well for its self. I can't wait til 9-6, cause this games gonna be sav.
good point ben. i was not aware they made nail'd.
this game is a great example for the hype discussion as well. the first trailer created a lot of hype. it sure got the game the radar so to speak. i only wish the gameplay matched up with the tone of the trailer.
@dreno
maybe i am projecting some of my dissapointment with re5 onto this game as far as my dislike of the sun is concerned. it wasn't really the sun that screwed up re5 either. having said that, i still think dark and creepy works better with zombies. that's just me though.
whoever made the first trailer did a great job of getting this game noticed. i will say that.

I've never played re5 so you could be on to something there. I liked re4, but I didn't dig on the whole " were not zombies anymore, were los plagus". To me it seemed like it was some kind of alien parasitic invasion. Still damn creepy and scary, but not the same, so once I knew re5 had the same type of infection, I had not interest.
And don't get me wrong, I love the norm of eery dark apocolyptic atmosphere that every other zombie game has, but the fact that di doesn't have that same atmosphere has striked my fancy. I think it may be the way I choose to look at the game.
In a z-day type experience, everywhere is effected, not just rainy overcast cities that were once a quiet little burg in a mountainess forest with a creepy coproration mansion. Everywhere. So to see di take it to somewhere like a vacation resort, for me anyway's, gives me a sense that there's no escaping the zombie apocolypse, and that the only means of survival are your wit, cunning and your will to live.
i did not exactly like the las plagas aspect as well in re 4. the enemies still acted a lot like zombies though. kind of creepy having the zombie like creatures cursing at you in spanish from the dark. re4 is a great game with a lot of value becuase of the length of its campign. great atmosphere in that game, too. i would say re2 and re4 are my favorite re games.
re 5 is the only one i dislike. it kind of fell flat on its face in my opinion. zombies on motorcycles and with machine guns? a hulked up chris was a turn off as well. it's like they were going for some gears of war vibe instead of resident evil.

Whoa, Techland is decent developer! Not upper echelon……..yet. I loved Call of Juarez 1 and 2. Yeah, the Cartel was a mistake right from the start. Bad idea bringing it to a modern time. Strange, actually, never quite understood why they did that? Anyway, Never played Nail'd but wanted to and I may yet. This game looks phenomenal! I love the island setting and the coop. Only thing that sucks about this game is the fact I am now going to have to add yet another game to my D1P list!!!
"They also made nail'd. Don't condemn a developer for one bad game…that's always a mistake."
I agree. But when a developer has made 15 or 16 other bad games before hand, like Techland has, then I'd be a little worried. I'm still picking this one up though as I'm a sucker for zombie themed entertainment. If it's bad, then I'll treat it as a romp through a B class zombie flick. If it's good, then it's money well spent. I did like the first two Call of Juarez titles so all hope is not lost.
It's open world, er island, so I think there will be night time as well even if we haven't seen it. That's more realistic than having a whole open world game at night.
Oh man that reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 5. Not that I mind, I had a lot of fun playing RE5 in coop. But that babe even looked like RE5's Sheva.

that's exactly what i thought as well. i got strong re5 vibes from this trailer. re5 coop was a lot of fun. the actual game itself was a let down for me. it played just like re4 so i should have loved but for some reason i just did not care for it. it lost a lot of the re atmosphere. i did enjoy the lost in nightmares dlc which brought a lot of the re atmosphere back. that gives me hope for re6.
So Lost In Nightmares is good? Yay – that DLC is probably cheap now. Looks like my coop buddy and I are not done with RE5 just yet! Excellent.
i liked lost in nightmares a lot. the desperate escape dlc might be better from a coop point of view. it's pretty intense with wave after wave of enemies. it's a blast to play with a buddy.
the dlc is included with re5 gold version for free. it's already on the disc.
You guys are nuts, aside from the black zombies in the sun there's no RE5 here.
You gotta be kidding man. First off, yeah the general sunshine exotic holiday location look is one thing, but look at that town scene right at the beginning there, that could have been an area in that town in the beginning of RE5! And that white girl in the video, tell me she doesn't remind you of Sheva? Then there is that zombie that "bubbles over" with tumours or whatever in there – that was a monster that could have been picked *straight* out of RE5!

eh, all zombies bubble over with whatever disease they happen to have 🙂
LOL! So what you are saying is that we are wading knee deep in clichés here? In a video game? Naaaaah… That can't be so! 😀
Love the trailer, love that its golden, I thought for sure it would get some kind of a delay, but I'm happy with it. Just a few more weeks until I'm picking it up day 1.
This well could be my first zombie game, this game has my interest, especially where the game is taking place.
So what kind of LOCAL co-op is offered?
Is this game gonna be any good???
The premise seems interesting, and I do like open world games. It looks like RE + Far Cry.
Being a big Left 4 Dead fan, I'd say it more resembles that series more than RE, but more advanced and with missions. Either way still a good combo.
Far Cry with zombies is my impression too.
Sorry Resistance, you are gonna have to wait over there at the kids' table while I get my zombie on.
It's gonna be time for some fun in the sun, sippin on rum, bustin out a forty ounce just to make their brains bounce, slap em with my chainsaw while I get my zombie on… baby.

ZOMIES FTW! 🙂
Graphics remind me of Bulletstorm. Gameplay a little bit of Far Cry 2 and Left 4 Dead and over all the game looks great. Quite of the few hands on previews were doubtful though..
I may even do the multiplayer with this just to try it
Whoa! watch out, World *might* do MP. Head for the hills! :/
I would love it day 1 but will wait for a review of the game plus Resistance comes out and starwars old republic which i have my eyes on.

Treyarc has the potential to make a terrific zombie game.I would like to see a 8 to 16 player first person zombie game.Maybe even a 32 player,Huge open world GTA type, groups of players having to work together in different areas of the city, competitive teams even. How bout a MMO 3rd person zombie game where everyone starts out in the same place and must venture outside of the 1st safe zone in order to find other safe zones. The further you go the better stuff you find, buy, ect.Do a map of America where every capital of each state is another safe zone.Start everyone out in the middle and let em choose where and how to go about their adventure.A Zombieland type game.Saftey in numbers, easier to travel during the day but better loot at night, ect. There's your PS4 thought Ben.:)Dead Island looks like it might be pretty cool tho. It's on my list.
soooooooo happy to finally have a zombie game!
yea we had dead rising 2 last year, but that totally sucked donkey balls!
still cant figure out how this is suitable for 15 year olds to play, but L4D2 is not, but whatever.
Ok, so that's now 2 trailers that I like of this game. And this one shows gameplay. I'll wait for 1st day reviews and probably get it the same day.
@ bigstack I love the idea you have for a zombie game.I would play that on day one.
