There was a time in this industry's history when space shooters – be they vertical or horizontal side-scrollers – were quite common.
And while we've long since moved on, the concept of a space shooter remains attractive. Doublesix Games has announced Strike Suit Zero , an arcade space shooter where players will fly around in a "transforming fighter." This is what's known as the "Strike Suit," and it's Earth's last defense.
Our planet is about to be destroyed and the Strike Suit, boasting "ludicrous firepower and awesome abilities," can be used to halt the devastation. The game offers a slick artistic style, high-speed zero gravity vehicular combat, and a branching mission structure. Plus, there are some recognizable names involved in the project; Junji Okubo ("Appleseed: Ex Machina," "Steel Battalion") will handle the ship designs, and Paul Ruskay ("Homeworld") will provide the audio. Said Doublesix creative director Jim Mummery:
"Strike Suit Zero is inspired by the classic space combat games we all love. But our game goes further – it takes that inspiration, pumps up the pace and injects a massive sense of urgency to excite and challenge the player."
Doublesix also created the entertaining Burn Zombie Burn! Their new project is slated to arrive on PC and the PlayStation Network early next year, and more details should arrive in the coming months. Downloadable titles are getting more and more advanced with every passing year; Strike Suit Zero could be a great digital space adventure.
