Yeah, we're getting Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on the PlayStation Network. But that's not enough of a celebration and Konami knows it.

All the die-hard franchise fans have been hoping the publisher would reveal plans to celebrate Castlevania 's 25th anniversary. They haven't done so just yet, but they did confirm that they plan to do…well, something. According to Rely On Horror , Konami said simply:

"We are going to do something, we are just going through final approvals on exactly what that is going to be."

So now the question falls to you guys: what might they do? And what do you want them to do? Personally, I just want what I've always wanted- a true-blue sequel to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night , which is undoubtedly the best entry in the long-running series in my eyes. But wouldn't the 25th anniversary have to involve an old-school collection of some kind? So what say you?

A HD 2D Castlevainia would be welcomed. And by HD 2D, I mean new hand drawn sprites!

Hmmm, I should probably play Castlevania SotN. Another one I missed. :_(

You REALLY should 😉 A classic game, one of my and many folks' absolute favorites of all time.

How many castlevania games are there? Want to get into the series.

More than anybody can count, I am aware of… 13 at least.

Symphony of the Night is far and away the best, though I've been very pleased on the whole with the portable ones developed for Nintendo handhelds the last few years. I'd suggest SOTN for the ultimate 2D Castlevania experience, and last year's Lords of Shadow was a nice 3D, modern-style game that a lot of us on the site really enjoyed and should be available for a very low cost at retail. SOTN can be downloaded from PSN.

I just want a solid sense-making remake of Simon's Quest, that's the only one I like more than Symphony of the Night. Lords of Shadow was really good though actually, no denying that.

I'm sure it will be something stupid like a concert like they did for Zelda, although at least Castlevania music belongs in such a setting.

They've already done that. Hmmm, Castlevania's music is kick ass though.

That's where Lords of Shadow fell short, it had no Castlevania music.

Man, I thought I was the only one who wanted to see a full-on Simon's quest remake. The original was deeply flawed but the ambition of the game was ahead of its time — almost a "metroidvania" style game.

Did you play Order of Ecclessia for DS a few years back? Not the best of the DS entries but very, very reminiscent of Simon's Quest in my opinion.

It has been a quarter century since Caslevania came out? Wow I feel old now.

A collection of some the major ones released on PSN would be fine for me.

I'm a little greedy for quality title as of late. They have been too few and far in between.

With that said, I'd like a true blue 2D sequel to SotN as well. As dumb as it may sound, that game helped me cope with RL when things were getting out of hand. For that, I'll ALWAYS love it and rate it top 3 IMO.

If they can recapture the essence of SotN, it'll be a game that transcends all others guarantee. Give me an orchestra not horrible rock remixes. Give me the same albeit slightly advanced gameplay (one can argue that there doesn't need to be any dramatic changes if any at all). Give me beautiful hand drawn sprites. Give me a sequel worthy of the title.

I know it sounds like self entitlement but man, its not everyday a developer gets to celebrate and commemorate their 25 years worth of history.

I have no idea what Konami might do. What would I like them to do? And I agree wholehearted with Ben, a sequel to SotN is called for. Alacard is too good a character to leave alone. A HD redo of SotN would be nice too.

I think there should be two HD collections. The first one would contain Castlevanias 1-4 and Rondo of Blood. The second one would contain Bloodlines, Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow and Lords of Shadow.

Rondo of blood needs to be in the same collection as SofN. Story wise, Symphony is a direct sequel to Rondo of blood. They should make an HD 2d sequel to that. I got great ideas for the plot to the 3rd installment 🙂

Epic HD collection set with EVERYTHING, as well as either a sequel to LoS, or just a further expansion of the series with a new Belmont, and of course, Dracula.

In an industry saturated with sequels for nearly every series out there, it's pretty amazing that SOTN never really received one. How the HELL has there not been a new Castlevania game starring Alucard?! I mean seriously!!!
