Man, just about everything is getting a high-definition upgrade these days. You paying attention, Square Enix?

Capcom will celebrate the 15th anniversary of their most storied franchise by releasing a couple high-definition upgrades in September. The first is Resident Evil 4 and the second is Resident Evil: Code Veronica X ; Japanese gamers will get these bad boys on September 8. As for US consumers, we have to wait a little longer: according to GameSpot , we'll get RE4 in HD on September 20 and Code Veronica X a week later on the 27th. Both titles will be available in standard Blu-Ray format and digitally, so you can take your pick. At this rate, all the best games of the last generation will be available in high-def!

I must say, I loved both games for slightly different reasons. RE4 definitely marked a revolution for the series, but Code Veronica X was arguably the best of the "older" titles (i.e., no third-person over-the-shoulder aiming). And the original Code Veronica was one of the three Dreamcast titles I ever owned. 😉 Remember that opening cinematic?

If not, here- watch and enjoy .

More games out in september……. I think big mistakes are happening due to mw3 and bf3 and uc3.

Nice. Blue Ray for me. And used. Sick of Crapcom but I really want an HD version of RE4. It's the best one in my opinion. With RE2 coming in second.

Gotta respectfully disagree with you there Jawknee.

I'd rather have the Onimusha series in HD, but these should be good too. I wonder what else will be brought back form the PS2 into HD…

Since these HD Collections are so popular, they need to get some Tomba! and Tobal and maybe even some Bloody Roar.

Why separately? I don't get it. Why not buy two collections instead of each game once?

ugh, i need to start double checking before i post.

Yea that is weak… Selling both games seperate… I'll only get it if both games are $20 each since the price for all the HD collection happen to be standard priced at $40

I think if the MGS and RE HDs don't sell well on the box, they should just stop giving xbox stuff.

i think RE2 was the best of the old style. my first time with it was unforgivable! just being dropped in the middle of a city full of zombies incredible. it was a horror movie come to life.

Too bad they aren't in a collection cuz I get the feeling Capcom is going to charge an arm and a leg for em.

I really wanna drag out Code Veronica again, I've got 2 Dreamcasts hooked up at the ready. Say Ben, what were the other two games you had? Tell me one was Skies of Arcadia.

Claire C

They aren't together as a collection??

WorldEndsWithMe

Sadly they are not. Capcom wants extra money, that's why they release their fighting games incomplete, then finish them and sell them again.

How do you know?

Well, I did have Skies for a little while but for some reason, I thought it paled in comparison to so many PS1 RPGs. Don't remember why.

Anyway, I traded it in. The three enduring titles I had for the DC were Code Veronica, Soul Calibur, and NFL 2K.

The digital downloads do. I haven't seen any details having to do with the retail release. All Gamespot said was that they announced there will be retail copies as well. I bet they'll be together as a collection. I doubt they'll try to sell Code Veronica by itself. Digitally it makes sense but not retail wise. Maybe I'm wrong.

I got Dreamcast recently, Skies of Arcadia is a title I have been interested in. It goes for the price of a new retail game, do you think it is worth it?

WorldEndsWithMe

Ultima that depends on how much of a fan of old style JRPGS you are, it's a fun turn based RPG that I fully enjoyed but it isn't perfect, there is a ton of grinding, the story is a lot of "pirate versus the empire" and it lacks many of the advances the genre made on the PS2 but I still really liked it as a kind of inbetween 3D game. You'll notice plenty of stuff that had strong influences on FFXII much later.

If you are dubious I'll just toss you a fact, the Dreamcast needs no modding or tampering to play "back ups"

God cvX was a sick game. The only problem I had with it, was thatit didn't have Leon S. Kennedy. But other than that it was sick.

I can still remember pretty much starting out in the graveyard. The first time I played cvX I wasted an entire clip on the first zombie I saw, just for s&g's.

And the creepy ass dude and his "sister". Effing epic.
Re4 was pretty sick too, I remember a buddy of mine I and would leave school and go straigh to my house and log hours into that game until we beat it, killed all of the eyes and got the most money you could get from that fight. Then my power went out cause a thunder storm.

So I re bea it the fast way with the rpg.

Ill have to talk my girl into lettin me snag one 'o these

Ben, I challenge you to go one week without using the words "Square-Enix" or "SE" in one of your articles unless it's specifically about them. I'm just saying, I've been seeing the name in a LOT of articles lately 😛

On a more on-topic note, I do plan on getting these but I was hoping they'd come bundled together… You listening Square-Enix? XD

trust me, SE needs it beaten into their heads, too bad they probably frequent 360 sites and so won't see Ben's pointed arguments.

Yay! Capcom releasing old games only tweaked a bit, these with HD visuals!

I getting CVX, never gave that one a chance.

I have RE4 for the GC, was a little mad when they released it on the PS2 with extras later.

Jawknee

Don't be. The PS2 version was one of the worst ports in recent history. Terrible sound, terrible controls and the graphics looked like crap. They had to lessen the amount of enemies on screen too. The definitive version to get at this point is the Wii version. Comes with all the extra content, is the same code as the Gamecube version, so there is no downgrades in quality and itconnects with motion controls that work even better than the Move controls for RE5.

Yay for retail release!!! Thought these two would be stuck online digitally. RE4 is one of my favorite games that I've never beat so I'm very excited. =)

One of my top three of the last generation gets the HD treatment! I'm exicted for RE4.

Now I can only hope for Okami and FFX.

@Riku994

Not really. Remember Resident Evil Survivor?? That game was AWFUL. A FPS that I beated in 3 hours and you could only save when you finished the game and had infinite ammo.

Also Outbreak?

RE4 was the reboot it needed by the time.
