Perhaps this will help bridge the gap between two very different cultures.
For the most part, very Japanese-centric titles don't do as well in the US, and Western-oriented games don't sell as well in Japan. But if we can raise awareness on both sides, maybe things will go more smoothly. Who knows?
As noted by DualShockers , Sony's World Game Project will kick off on July 23; it'll be hosted by "a mysterious spokesman named Mr. Murata" and it'll take place at the Akihabara85. That's a pretty nice club from what we hear. Anyway, the idea is to turn Japanese gamers onto some of the Western gems they don't seem to appreciate quite as much; some of the games on display will be inFamous 2 , Deus Ex: Human Revolution , Resistance 3 , and Shadows of the Damned .
And considering that the event has a "Vol. 1" tag, we have to assume that more such meetings in the World Game Project theme will take place in the future. Of course, we're wondering if we might see the reverse in this country… That's only fair, isn't it?
This is more required for the rest of the world to get some knowledge about Japanese Games.
I can name some 10 Japanese games that gamers in the world don't know.

hey Kiryu, after I beat Yakuza 4 do I get to wander around the city and do stuff?
Yes you can world, even before the last boss if you choose too. You'll know when you can as soon as all 4 players can be played by choosing which one to use at the bar.
Thanks Word.
i noticed la noire was on top of the charts in japan thanks to bikersaint posting that info yesterday. so there are exceptions. shadows of the damned flopped pretty bad in na though.
i think the rise of the 360 and military fps is big factor in why japanese games don't do so well anymore. the market has trended away from the type of games japan makes. i think they know this, and that's why you see the farming out so much content to western developers.
Yes, this very much needs to be a two way program…
I agree.
Me 3.
Definitely hope this goes both ways. I'm sure there are games that I've slept on. I'm all for anything that raises gaming awareness on a international scale.
Great idea, this definitely needs to go both ways like Duke's women.
Though I thought Shadows of the Damned WAS a Japanese game. I'm still waiting for it to show up in my mailbox.
"…this definitely needs to go both ways like Duke's women."
I'm gonna have to steal that for something.

Damn World. You should've copyrighted that when you got the chance!! Awesome quote!!
We all have our GT5. One game to rule them all!
This Program may go further than Japan and hopefully the US. It is called the WORLD Game Project after all. Who knows where volume 2 will take place. It would be interesting to see how game culture varies in other parts of the world.
Great Idea to get otherwise unknown gaming gems out to the very places & people who might not have the chance or ability to try them out.

I can't believe that I didn't immediately make the connection between the username and the icon. Bikersaint – The Saint – Roger Moore – The Saint….Very good.
I don't think Shadows of the Damned flopped in NA. It may not have done exceedingly well sales wise but from what i recall the game got pretty good reviews as a whole, including Ben's review here. I think this is a great idea to be honest. Japanese are missing out on some great games i think.
waste of time, getting a asian to play a non asian game is like trying to convince a granny out of there old habits!
in other words, you would have better luck moving heaven and hell!
