Maybe Hollywood might want to try producing some films with original titles and concepts.
We're not entirely sure how one would approach such a project, but we'll soon find out: according to The Hollywood Reporter , the arcade classic Space Invaders is being made into a movie. Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Odd Lot Entertainment's Gigi Pritzker will deliver the project; they just need a writer. …who's up for it? Couldn't possibly be too hard.
First released in 1978, the smash hit helped bring video games from the relative obscure gloom of the arcade to the limelight of mainstream entertainment. It didn't manage to turn the industry into a mainstream venue but after several years had passed, just about everyone knew the title, whether they had played it or not. As the game didn't have a story, it'll be interesting to see how this movie goes… For the record, di Bonaventura is big on this retro stuff; he is a producer on the "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" movies, and he's even developing "Asteroids." Yep, probably need a script for that, too.
This and that Asteroids movie (and Battleship for that matter) are perfect examples of people getting licenses for their bad movie ideas when they don't even need them. Do you really need the Space Invaders name to make a movie about shooting down alien ships? If so Will Smith owes someone a lot of money for Independence Day.
Haha. Indeed.
I love the title of this article.
maybe it will be an offshoot of a TRON type movie, get sucked into an old arcade game and go all Wing Commander on some Kilrathi.
The movie's most intense moment is going to be the guy in the tank trying to shoot down the fast alien ship.
Wasn't this called Battle Los Angeles?
Judging from the plot, I'd say you're right
Are you sure it isn't a porno?
The porno is actually called Personal-Space Invaders.
Transformers and G.I. Joe? This guy probably just got stoned and thought about what other franchises from his childhood he could milk. There's no script yet so I wonder if they even have a concept for what they want out of it
…… what the?
and we all thought the uncharted movie would suck!
oh hollywood, is there anything you wont do?
ive finally found something that has less dignity then antivision!
Madness, I tell you… Madness…
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
And here I thought Independence Day was Space Invaders.
Fooled me.
I mean..seriously? Rather see Johnny Cage in Ninja Mime
Well, since Space Invaders has no story at all, this movie could potentially have a lot of potential. But most of the really good movies I've seen in my life had absolutely nothing to do with Hollywood, so I'm skeptical too.
Hmm, a movie with an original title…what a novel idea!
I'm really curious to see how this will turn out. I'm not keeping my hopes up, but my curiosity is high. Same goes for the Missle Command movie. Is that still being developed?
