Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi loves cars. And it goes well beyond video games.

He has been a professional racer for quite some time now, and he most recently took one of his favorite vehicles, the Nissan GT-R, to the Nurburgring 24h race. Yamauchi and his team of Michael Schulze, Tobias Schulze, and Yasuyoshi Yamamoto posted an overall finish of 36th but better yet, they won their SP 8T class !

Despite some lengthy pit stops, the GT-R – a first-time participant in the race – ended the long event with a win. And when the car crossed the finish line, Yamauchi was at the wheel. This excellent showing follows Yamauchi's 2nd place finish in the LMP2 class during the legendary Le Mans 24h event (another team-based race, obviously). And of course, Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital are responsible for Gran Turismo , so…

Real racers know racing. They know how a car is supposed to feel when on the track. And if you want a fair recreation of that feel, you might want to try GT5.

Nice, Congratulations to Yamauchi and all at PD for the result!

We need a survey of professional racing drivers that have tried video games like GT and Forza, I'd like to know how many of them feel that the games can provide a sufficiently real experience to allow them to practice a track when they are not physically able to be there. Of course I'd also like to hear whether GT or Froza provide the best experience….

😉

Obviously until someone from the Forza series wins a race, that answer should be transparently clear.

😉

Let's not embarrass the Forza developers further.

LOL! Well Ben, I'd actually like to embarrass them further, especially if it drives them to make a far better game. After all if Forza get's 50% better, then GT will correspondingly improve to make sure it's in the lead – as usual.

Gran Turismo equals real racing. Congrats Kaz and team at the Ring!

Additionally, I offer my congrats to a team that had a previous GT Academy winner at the wheel (Lucas in 2009) as they took second in the famed 24 Hour La Sarthe Race.

Factoring in the above post by Ben, Gran Turismo's reputation as the "real driving simulator" is in cement now.

I don't think Sony could've had a better guy in the driver's seat for the greatest GT simulator franchise on the market.
And shut up anyone about Forza 3. Other than being able to rewind, quicker menu interface, customize and online auction.. it comes up short no matter how you want to classify it: game, simulator, whatever.
And its not just physics and handling where Forza gets its muffler kicked, Forza does nothing for Kart, Rally, and NASCAR. Not to mention a whole host of other modes and options that doesn't exist in Forza.

Seriously, that NASCAR stuff made me actually really have respect for the sport. The physics and handling detail is unprecedented.

Now all PD has to do in the future is add motorcycles, Monster Trucks, and Semi's and they'd have the whole wide world of racing sewn up…….except for camel, ostrich, or 2 wheeled Segway racing. LMFAO

I always wanted a Semi-truck racing game, I wonder if they would add big rigs into GT5? I love trucks my dad was a heavy hauler moving billion dollar machinery to new buildings for companies, I've went with him on a job when I was younger watching him since then I've always loved trucks, and the raw power they have.

I also was a very good Forklift operator I started driving them when i was 6 my dad taught me how to drive them. 😛

Pretty sure the Nissan GT-R was a bonus car with the collectors edition of GT5! Heck, it even came with a scale model of the GT-R!
It's a sweet car, but I still prefer my McLaren F1 Stealth! Like a rocket on rails!

Great for PD and GT series fans, but mostly for himself. He has some other participation in past as well in other races, and it just proves that the game is made from a real racer, with valid facts about car's behavior, feelings, etc.

I also love that races, and hope the new DLC include the newer audi's (the Leman's models) as well as other models. That is, if the DLC comes to reality, which I think it's going to.

Oh man!! I swear I know that track like the palm of my hand thanks to Gran Turismo. And other real tracks also.

This is why Kaz is such a perfectionist. He knows what racing feels like and that's why he takes his time with Gran Turismo and delivers the best.

I love this man and all of PD!

I'm looking forward to the future of GT; DLC, GT6: Prologue, GT6, Roaming feature(I've always wanted to drive around a city, on highways, streets and fly though alleys. Heck Kaz, Add cops too. 😀 I'm also looking forward to more tracks and upgrades to GT5. Actually, just hold off and give us everything in GT6P, If you would like. Your the man, you will deliver and never disappoint. Your like a God to some of us lol

HAPPY GAMING, EVERYONE!!!

sweet!
only if he could stop trying to add the world to his games, and focus on what matters.
hes constantly saying hes a perfectionist, that hes never happy with his games after they release.
thats why he adds so much crap into them that he never gets time to polish it!
maybe thats why hes never happy with them………..

great news. GTR is a remarkable car. when i was stuck on GT5 i didnt use it much even though it dominates alot of tracks. instead i was hooked on R34 i dunno… i jus love that over the GTR R35.
