We didn't really expect it to appeal to all gamers, as PlayStation Home is the vehicle and that service isn't for everyone.

But we're happy to see that the majority are interested and even impressed with our new PSXE Show that debuted in the Home Community Theater. You should see Episode 2 dropping in this Thursday; once we can get that confirmed, we'll post up a headline and invite everyone in for another get-together. Plenty showed up last time but hopefully, even more will be around for the second party, as an annoying error sort of got in the way last time. In the second show, I talk about the future and potential of the open-ended/sandbox formula and explain why Uncharted is a cut above, and you can also look forward to a slicker presentation.

The third show is almost done as well; that involves a more upbeat style, a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops and a samurai sword, and I put the exclusive debate to rest once and for all. This week, now that the first half of 2011 is over and done with, we want to know what your favorite game is so far. In other words, if you had to hand out a GotY award right now, what title would receive that honor?

LA Noire for me no question.

inFamous 2 here. It's right up there with Uncharted 2 in my book.

LA Noire, while impressive technology bored me after around 25% completion.

It's crazy how much the site grew and how much better it's become. I kinda forgot, but I remember when just a few years ago there was barely even a community here.

It was like people were scared to post, you would have sometimes only 2 or 3 comments. And I would usually post more on PSU (that site is not even half as good as this one), but little by little started commenting on here and then it seems that in just a few months after people started seeing others comment, the site blew up.

So nothing but props to the site guys. I know it will just keep getting bigger and better. Like always, it's the first or second site I visit in the morning while drinking coffee.

And about my favorite game of this year… I am ashamed to admit it but the only one I have played is MK.

I just haven't had the time this year. In a couple of months though I plan to play KZ2 and Infamous 2. I'm a huge Infamous fan, but I don't have the time right now.

I've been in my super casual gaming mood for the past few months. Playing FIFA, Pure and WWE All Stars when I need a quick fix.

Actually, if you go even a little before that, right around the time I signed on in mid-2006, it was even less active.

There was no comments section at all, in fact. Updates were very erratic, too. It was much more active before that, though, when Arnold and other people were working hard at it; I just happened to show up during a transitional period.

But I take very little credit. It's the community that matters most of all.

My favorite game goes to Infamous 2. But the "best" game?
That's a hard list. I can't decide haha.
When choosing bests I try not to let favorites pick themselves.

Of the list, I have played ME2, KZ3, Crysis 2, DiRt 3, and Mortal Kombat. I know POrtal 2 and LBP2 are great games, too. LA Noire seems to have some respectably high marks, too.

I don't think I necessarily see "game of the year" as the "best" game. Rather, the most "significant" game. Basically, a game that despite perhaps some imperfections, it's existence does more to define and broaden the identity of modern video gaming than any other one game has. And or course, a game can be both technically the best and also the most significant. But I weigh the significance heavier than the technical in regards to GotY.

So in terms of significance I see LA Noire as being a heavy player. KZ3, while technically brilliant, and outstandingly awesome, is way too "been there, done that" to get a vote from me. Crysis 2 I feel has a stronger chance at FPS of the year, as it tried to expand the ordinary action FPS a bit more methodically. dIRT 3 was predictably awesome, but the GYMKHANA stuff wasn't enough to make it stand high enough for GoTY. MK made a triumphant return to being a high quality feature rich fighter. yet, the very format of the game is so antiquated it can't be the most significant without having done something unprecedented… don't ask me what that would be.
I can't comment of LBP2. I loved ME2, but I can't get over the fact that it was "last year's" game.

Portal 2 is the wild card for me. I havent played it. Not even one iota. I will, though. I want too. But if the ratings speak to how great it is, I know it just couldn't have been an incremental increase over the first game. And it was a very original game at that.

My critic-sense tells me it's a showdown between Portal 2 and LA Noire for GoTY

EDIT: I should clarify that the showdown is for the mid-year.

That's what I was about to ask. What gives? inFAMOUS 2 is the best game of 2011 hands down. It should have been on the list instead of Mass Effect 2 since technically it's a 2010 game.

Where's DNF? Other than that I have to go with LA Noire.

BTW Ben, I have to tell you to not take a sword to Black Ops. I was contacted by a reader that doesn't join and comment due to lame fanboys. He seemed pretty distraught by the thought of people taking a samurai sword to BO. He plans to exact revenge if you do on a copy of INFAMOUS 2 and Uncharted 3. So I beg of you Ben, leave the game alone, and let them Prestige it for the 10th, I mean 11th time.

'L.A. Noire' is easily one of the highlights of this entire generation for me, being mention-worthy among my all-time favorites. Few future titles even have the potential to be as enjoyable an experience to me.

A couple other titles deserve special mention as well:
'LittleBigPlanet 2' seems very underrated to me. Perhaps it will be a slow-burner in the sales department, and maybe people aren't talking about it as much as they would a normal sequel due to it being more akin to a giant expansion pack. But it's still too great a title to suffer this seeming inattention.

The next one may be somewhat controversial, but 'Dragon Age II' really hasn't received a fair shake in my eyes. As a long-time role-playing game fan, I too was disappointed in the removal of certain features present in 'Origins', but overall it was still one of the best gaming experiences I've had this year.

Ben Dutka PSXE

Jalex

I was definitely impressed with the fact that your review gave 'Dragon Age II' one of it's highest scores. I meant more generally, as the critical average was a full ten points lower than 'Origins', and the Metacritic user score is a ridiculous 4.2 out of 10 (and based on 3,000 votes as well).

Beamboom
Beamboom

Jalex, I agree that the huge difference in the metascores of Origins VS da2 is not objectively speaking fair.

However, while I indeed am a BioWare fanboy, in this case I am willing to accept that unfairness cause we all agree that da2 was a step in the wrong direction, and the clearer this signal is to the holy masters at BioWare the higher the chances are that they get the message and can act accordingly.

Beamboom
Beamboom

A majority… Well that depends on how you view it, really. I'd say "the crowd is *split* on your new Home show" is a better description, the highest and lowest score were almost on the percent equal, with the two lowest scores giving a total of around 45%?

But I believe the reason for this is not cause almost half the readers dislike either Home or your video.
I bet it is the fact that approx 50% of your readers are *not* in the USA!
Maybe it's not on the spot 50%. Maybe it's 40%. Maybe even 35%. Either way it's a significant share. And the sooner you guys realize that the better it is for this site imo.

You can see the show for an entire week after it airs in PShome. So no one misses out.

Also, if you adjust the time to fit the needs of EU or AUS, then you alienate the site readers in the site's home country.

Even if you are in the US, perhaps a unique work, volunteer, or extra-curricular schedule doesn't allow you to make the meet and greet. Are they somehow treating them unfairly, too?

Beamboom
Beamboom

Is the video on display in the european Home too, now? If so I stand corrected, but I thought this was North America only?

Anyways, it's not a question of being "unfair", it's a question of what to prioritize. I don't know how much time and efforts are put into these video clips, but personally I think it would be better if they focused on improving the site instead. That would gain *everyone* 24/7, instead of a weekly ten minute clip.

As it stands today, the vote showed that almost half of the readers who voted had little to no interest of these videos. What do you think the result would be if there was a vote on "should we add/improve the site with <insert good idea here>"?

I kind of like the way the site is organized personally. The blog-like set up makes it easy for me to read whatever is posted. And I never have to look for anything.

As for the Home show, I didn't realize it's not available outside US accounts. I assumed your complaint was with the time-of-day of the initial showings.

No, the majority includes the second option, where they said they like it but aren't Home fans.

And it's definitely not 50% who are outside the U.S. That's not even close. Lastly, the purpose of the show really doesn't have much to do with CURRENT readers. It's for those who don't know us; it's for expansion purposes. Working on the site mostly only benefits those who already come here…sorry, but that doesn't help much.

Yeah and the first two options of the vote gave a total of no more than about 55% or so, didn't it? Sorry if my memory fails me.
However, as a pure promotion/marketing tool, to recruit new readers it does of course have it's purpose regardless of the current readers opinions.

But how large do you estimate the share of "foreigners" to be on psxe? If that share is very low then I'd say you got a *huge* potential right there!

In terms of overall readership, the percentage of those outside the U.S. is quite low.

There may be a higher percentage of those who actually post here, although I'm not sure why.

Beamboom

Quite LOW even? That's strange, no less! But then I'd say you gotta have a *huge* potential right there, cause most all gamers read english regardless of their native language.

And yeah it's my clear impression that there is quite the percentage of active members that's outside the US.
Maybe it's those who voted too 🙂

did not enjoy it as much as the original, but nothing has put a smile on my face as much as that!

For now I just bought a dreamcast with Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and 5 other games, 2 controllers and to memory cards (VMU's) all for below the retail price of a 1 new PS3 game. WIN.

Great buy, I love my DC.

BTW, not sure what games you're interested in, but here's just a few out of my own DC collection that you might be interested in.

(You can just Google, Wiki, or YouTube for more info on each one)…

Seaman(FYI: make sure this game also comes with it's microphone attachment)
Wetrix
Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage
Elemental Gimmick Gear
Slave Zero
Carrier
Blue Stinger
Zombie Revenge

I have a bunch of other DC games too so if you're interested, let me know & I'll post them here too.

BTW, "World" also has a DC, so you can get a bunch more game ideas from him too
