Sucker Punch Hiring For PlayStation 3 Exclusive Title

Whatever they're working on, we want to know what it is.

Job listings at developer Sucker Punch's website and Gamasutra have made it plain: the inFamous designers are starting work on a new project.

It's exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and the job listings ask applicants to "kick start [their] next big thing." Don't assume it's the recently revealed Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time ; that's being handled by Secret Agent Clank developers Sanzaru Games. We'd like to believe Sucker Punch is already cranking on the third inFamous but that phrase "next big thing" sort of implies a new IP…doesn't it? We always like to see talented studios expand their visions and efforts, and provide gamers with something entirely new. These guys have proven themselves several times over already.

What would you like to see them try? Something similar to inFamous with that open-world style? Or how about a nice turn-based RPG? …oh, shut up.

Get your PS3 back, play inFamous 2, then come back and 'Hmmmm'. You know you'll want whatever SP is offering.

It was a questioning Hmmm as in "Hmmm I wonder what they have up their sleeve kinda Hmmmm" NOT a "ahh screw that game company,Hmm like I'm gonna buy that garbage" I played inFAMOUS 1, and I LOVED it. I just hate not being able to contribute to the discussion >.< And For your information, I just got back from a 16 mile hike 😀

Infamous was their first go on the PS3. I often wonder if some developers have this game idea in their head, but first feel that they need another project as a test bed of what they really want to do. Fortunately for Sucker Punch, they had a hit with Infamous and proceeded with Infamous 2. I wonder if this "next big thing" is an idea they've been floating around with and now feel comfortable enough to give it a go.

That would come as no surprise Simcoe. It happens in other mediums a lot of the time, when someone feels as though they need their skill, or technology or whatever to match up with their intent. Given the sheer ambition in inFamous though… I somehow doubt it.

That's exactly what Catherine is, they wanted to make something offbeat to test their skills on next gen hardware before working on Persona 5.

Lawless, I played a few more hours of it last night only to realise that even after investing what seems like 10 hours on this game and believing that I was almost done it, I'm only actually about 30% done (and that doesn't include playing the evil persona). With that said, I have to yield to your assessment that Infamous was very ambitious as a first go PS3 title.

Sony was very smart offering Infamous up as free title, as they'll probably be getting another $60 or more (if there are anymore Infamous follow-ups) out of me that they wouldn't have gotten.

A PS3 exclusive? I was hoping for Infamous on PS Vita! Anyway this is great news.

That could still be outsourced, or handed of to one of Sony's dedicated PSP developers. Maybe BigBig.

Nice. Well seeing that Infamous isn't your common everyday game I'd like to see an Infamous 3.
I'm still hooked on 2.
I'm now 80% to my platinum.

Agreed. The moment I saw the trailer for the original infamous at E3 years ago I knew it was something special and I was so glad I was right. And I got my platinum for i2 last thursday and I still can't put the game down, lol.

Nice Temjin! I'm still playing Infamous 1 I hate looking for the blast shards, that's the only thing I don't like about it. But when my PS3 died I had to restart everything now that I got a PS3 in early June now I can finally get all the trophies for the game. Time to get cracking!

Clamedeus, in inFamous 2 there's a power you get later on that lets you sense the blast shards from anywhere. It's very handy in getting that platinum.

lol yeah I went back and started doing Infamous 1 also. Like you, my first PS3 save file was lost. And hey, I can't believe how much of a visual upgrade infamous 2 is, the first game can look pretty dated.

Oh and be sure to go " Back to the Bayou" (grey colored island way to the west of the map) to get that Trophy and confounded Dead Drop!… I spent like hours looking for the last drop and never thought to go back there.

Serious broheme, I bet they added that just because it was so damn hard in the first game. What it does is show the nearest one on your minimap when you ping, even if its on a another island you just follow that dot until you locate it.

I didn't get the blast shard power thing until I was down to 3 blast shards remaining. I didn't have to spend a lot of time looking for them though.

Yeah I've finally gotten into the UGC, making a series of narratives. It's odd I love the current system but now I wish there was more like DLC packs for the gangs from the first game, maybe Kessler, Sasha, and Alden and the other conduits or ways to play with the camera (for the latter mayber there is I'm still haven't used all the logic objects). An ice Titan vs one of those huge dustmen conduits *smiling with glee*

I love the inFAMOUS games, I'm thoroughly addicted to 2 and was the same way with the first. Because they are such a breathe of fresh air and the gameplay is just plain fun I want to see inFAMOUS 3. I also wanna see where they take the Series from here on…

Careful Ben, you know you can't talk up turn based RPGs without someone telling you to get with the times or accusing you of hating shooters.

I hope they're cranking on inFamous 3, but considering the quality of inFamous and Sly, I'd love to see a new game from them too.

Turn based RPG starring all the PS2/PS3s most beloved characters sounds like fun (a great idea cLoudou). Can we have two versions? one based on the more cartoony, family friendly characters, and one based on the more mature, more realistically rendered characters? Thanks awfully.

So is FF Tactics the best turn based PSX strategy game?
I'm doing Suikoden and when I'm done there I'd sort of like to do a more tactics style format.

A lot of people say so, but I have never been able to get into it.

I can't say whether it's the best SRPG on PSX, but it's the best SRPG I've played.

It's the most purely tactical one I've played (i.e., it seems most like combat and least "game-y").

It also has one of the best Job systems I've encountered in a JRPG.

My opinions, of course.

I'd like to see Cole take a break before they feature him in another inFamous. Hopefully its a new IP. RPG, shooter, third-person action title, fighting, whatever, I'm sure it'd be a quality product. Those guys at Sucker Punch have plenty of good ideas, I'm sure.

Cole could make a comeback in the next generation.

*slight/ possible spoiler*

Umm sorry Jimmy but considering the ending….err.

That's not to say a new infamous isn't possible not at all just I'd be looking at a new protag with a new origin – might have to be a different universe to be honest. 🙂

When this was leaked a couple months ago all indications were that it was a new IP. And I'm strangely okay with that. As great as inFamous is I'm not of the school that says devs must crank out our sequels and do nothing else that they want to in the mean time. Guerrilla is working on something else too I think. I say bring inFamous 3 a little later and do something sweet and experimental now.

Maybe they can come up with an open world action game that puts GTA to shame.

Simcoe

Because you brought it up…Guerrilla Games will have to (eventually) go back to Killzone because they left #3 so wide open for a fourth instalment.

I wonder if Guerilla will do something other than an FPS. Just as long as they stay away from the stupid isometric camera idea of KZ: Liberation. Ugh.

I see on that job description that they use Maya to model their worlds.
That made me think; Any of you know other details about what's typically used as tools to create games?

"Or how about a nice turn-based RPG?"

You make me cry, Ben… It's funny how in this generation a lot of us went from agonizing over the FFVII remake to agonizing for just a good turn-based RPG… Hell, I was even considering buying a Wii just to get The Last Story, and then I found out It was an Action-RPG…

Well, here's hoping for Persona 5… If Atlus goes the action route with this, then I will have no hope left

Teddie9
Teddie9

please don't say that…. If that happened..*
sob*, the odds are it will when you look at all the other turn-based franchises…but P3 and P4 are so dear to me. I'd rather they just stopped making persona games if they didn't want anymore turn-based. However That ds smt was old school turn based and they're even re-releasing it for 3DS. So mayber they're keeping their style…

One thing that I'm constantly marvelling at in inFamous 2 is… the clouds. I kid you not. They're volumetric. They look so fluffy and real…. Shut up. I wonder what would happen to Cole if he got caught in the rain…

Anyway, I love inFamous, and more so the second. I'm reasonably certain that they're the first games that I've said, "Alright, I'm going to play for an hour, then turn it off and read for a bit before bed." Then bam! Next thing I know I've been playing for three hours and I'm like, "Well… Gonna be hard to get up for work tomorrow." That being said, I'm also a great advocate for originality, and while I'm sure that whatever they're working on would follow the archetype of what they've done before with Sly and inFamous, I'm glad that they're doing it rather than dragging it out. Both endings of iF2 are remarkable, giving a real sense of satisfaction, but I'm not sure that I'd enjoy seeing them take either route, despite what would be possible.

I suppose all that I have to say is: PS3 FTW! We may just have the PS3 swansong here.
Peace.

I too wondered about the rain. I mean, New Marais is supposed to be in the South…plenty of humidity and rain. Convienent there was no rain in the game! And how does Cole bathe?! He must be one stinky mofo.

MAYA is used to create resolution 4K or 4320p cgi that looks very close to real.
A lot of movie effects houses use MAYA for advanced video effects or F/X for short.
