E3 2011 is over but the analysts continue to examine the results.

The latest comes from analyst firm EEDAR, as they've compiled a list of the top 20 "Most Promising Retail Titles of E3 2011." The list was compiled based on page views and purchase intent at IGN, and overall media views. And the bottom line is that BioWare's Mass Effect 3 is in the top spot. In response, BioWare Vice President of Marketing Patrick Buechner said:

"We are excited to see that there was such a high level of interest in Mass Effect 3 during E3, especially when you consider how many amazing games were on display at this year's show. The team is making an incredible game that will attract both our loyal fans and players who are new to the franchise, making for a huge event launch at retail in March."

As for the list, games like Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Batman: Arkham City just missed the top 5, which is right here:

By the way, Uncharted 3 was the highest ranking exclusive, which ought to say something, and inFamous 2 came in at #10. Multiplats will always rule the sales charts – it's just mathematics, really – but great exclusives get attention, too.

Wow i had not expected to see Skyrim that high. Not saying they don't deserve it, just saying I did not expect it.

When 2 out of 5 on that list are RPGs I hope this sends a *massive* signal to the rest of the business: WE WANT RPG's!

Think of the sample group though.
Hmmm let's see IGN.
hey IGN has it's face all over the Xbox Dashboard.
Hmmm let's see not a single jRPG on that list.
Sorry, but you run a pole here at PSXe and I'm sure we'd see WKC2 cracking the list.

I don't see how that would change the message that RPGs are wanted, whether it being japanese or not.

My point is that when you look at that list and compare that to the total amount of what's being shown, I mean we talk about 3 RPGs and a zillion shooters in one form or another. That two of the three big shown RPGs are on this top 5 list is a pretty darn strong evidence that RPGs are wanted.

It's good seeing the single player stuff getting some stage time. But I'd imagine there's a greater ratio of single player gamers on media sites rather than the online crack addicts who have their world enclosed in their game space caring little for media previews of most any game in general.

Btw, beamboom right now I'm just talking out my butt making broad inferences and generalizations, I'm really just passing the time not caring to debate nothing.

I hope not…Xbox can keep that feature. Plus that feature is both stupid and pointless.

I agree. I have an xbox and kinect and this feature is probably the one I will never use. I do not like to waste time talking rather than pushing one little button.

Maybe a minor percentage of people will actually like it… There are a lot of different people on earth.

Ahh, I think the COD and Battlefield should have move controls. And I really hope ninja gaiden 3, and dragon dogma doesn't dissapoint.

Well, for one, Hayasashi took a complete 180 from his direction in NGS2. He told (gamespot?) in interview that he wanted to take the NG series to sleek and sexy, with a less of an emphasis on blood. Now he totally flip flopped and wants NG3 to be follow a concept of steel and bones and what it's "actually" like to kill someone as a ninja. lame

Also, I'm just seeing features being added that don't make the game better, just different and changed. Does NG really need to have little QTE's dodging trucks? Does Ryu need to slowly scale brick walls with Kunai knives?
I also noticed a change in pacing. That early demo level had Ryu slicing up droves of enemies one by one. NG and NGS2 was less about quantity and more about quality small group fights. Now it seems the game play rewards mashing through each dude one by one, charge the arm, and then unleash the UT. Rinse. Repeat.
Limb chopping appears to have been removed. Obliteration setups were key to the prior NG game. In fact, essence to UT absorption setups were also key. Both of which appear to have been removed from NG3. It really appears that NG3 has moved it's core combat attributes closer to the surface for a more accessible approach, great for casuals and lesser committed action gamers who prefer to mash rather than think.
There's a belief that the NG games are "hard." I don't say they're hard, but one of the few action games of this kind that expects you to learn the combat system.
They're hard only if you don't understand Ryu and his abilities. Every time I read someone who claims the games on Normal are so hard, I think, "yeah, they would be hard if you didn't stop to think about your actions, instead of resorting to arcade brawler efforts where trying "harder" means pressing buttons faster and harder."

Unfortunately, heightened dev costs of today demand that the devs attract broader audiences.

headline on cvg reads xbox360 and modern warfare3 top purchase intent of e3. it's citing the eedar report. i know there is a difference between most promising title and top purchase intent, but that puts a differenet view on the analysis. consumers still love 360 and modern warfare.

Beamboom

That MW tops a "purchase intent" list really should not be a surprise to anyone anymore.

WorldEndsWithMe

That underlines my point, CoD may have the highest sales and intents to purchase but good games are the most promising.

@beamboom

i kind of thought the cod's popularity was fading a little bit, plus i heard activision had a poor presence at e3…oh, well i guess you are right. it's not really a surprise.

here is more from the report. "the 360 was the top platform among consumer mindshare and purchase intent, with e3 being an annual event watched wordwide by millions of core gamers it is no surprise that ms has once again taken the top among awareness and purchase intent for its first and third part games."

man, this report has nothing but glowing things to say about the 360 with no mention of sony. you would think uc3 would have made it onto the list.

also, considering nintendo announced its next system you would think it would gotten a little more attention. i keep reading a lot of comments from people who say that nintendo didn't do that great of a job showing off the wii u. nintendo also had a noteable drop in stock price after its prresentation. that's a shame becuase there seemed to be a lot of excitement and interest among the press and gamers in general.

So… how much did EA pay for those slots? I'm sure ME3 will be pretty good, but BF3? MW3? Another AC? How are these games more promising than Skyrim and Uncharted and Batman?

EEDAR's taking gifts from the coffers, there's no doubt now.

WorldEndsWithMe

I don't think that's it, I think gamers are just that blind to other greatness.

FM23

Simple fact…their companies advertise them all the time, therefore the casual gamers are familiar with them thus they have their top pikcs. I hang out with alot of casual gamers…all they know is CoD, BF, racing games, and sports. No one I know physically is familiar with Mass Effect so I find it funny it's on that list, but then again…I don't know everybody. I can understand Uncharted 3 not being up their, buth Batman is big time…that should have taken ME3's place.

Those are good, but where's Uncharted 3 and Arkham city?

I guess exclusives don't really work since they are only for one console but i know UC3 is the one I'm going crazy for ūüôā

Out of all the things shown at E3 software wise, Mass Effect 3 definitely has my heart. Granted the videos shown weren't impressive, but I'm just looking forward to playing the end of a great trilogy.

On a Mass Effect related note…..part of an ME3 article I found

ME3 "a beginning and a conclusion"

Mass Effect 3 is the final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy, but it does not mark the end of the Mass Effect franchise.

Maker BioWare told Eurogamer there's more Mass Effect in the works.

"This is not the end of the Mass Effect franchise by any means," BioWare boss Ray Muzyka said.

"We have more things planned. We're laser-focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is awesome and epic and intense on a galactic scale, and we want to provide a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy."

In Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard faces off against giant alien race the Reapers, who have invaded the earth.

It marks the culmination of a story arc that began in 2007 with Mass Effect.

"But also it's a beginning on a brand new adventure," Muzyka continued. "The galaxy is at war. It's a beginning as well as a conclusion."

BioWare and publisher EA are keen to expand the Mass Effect audience with the third game.

See ME3 video here:

"BioWare and publisher EA are keen to expand the Mass Effect audience with the third game." -> God how I hate that sentence.

Why can't they just be pleased with the audience they captured with the first ones, and give *them* the Mass Effect they want? I mean, it's not like they failed with the first two, they got the Game Of The Year everywhere, enough "Editors choice" to last a lifetime and making headlines *all* over the press with the first two Mass Effects.
Why do businesses *always* strive for "more, more, more". Hate that!
