Hitman: Absolution Devs Making “Some Bold Moves”

IO Interactive has a fancy new Glacier 2 engine and a whole lot of changes in store for the Hitman franchise.

Usually, when the hardcore fans hear “changes,” they begin to get suspicious. But with Hitman: Absolution, the developers say they definitely aren’t “playing it safe” and everyone involved “wants to make the best Hitman game they possibly can.” Game director Tore Blystad says that in fact, bold moves aren't only warranted, they're necessary.

"We’re taking bold moves with this one but it’s all for the sake of the game. Everyone on the team wants to make the best Hitman game they possibly can. Most people came to IO because they want to work on Hitman so it’s not like we want to destroy the franchise. We want to make something really cool."

At the same time, though, those aforementioned fans are still a little miffed at certain fresh features. If you’re a fan of the series and stealth games in general, what do you think of the slightly new direction seen in Absolution? And how’s about that sweet E3 CG trailer?

So, if I factor in that trailer, with the phrase "bold moves", what comes to mind is tons of nudity.

Doubtful. AO games don't get released in NA.

Well Underdog, as La Noire has shown, you don't need a AO rating to show full frontal female nudity.

If you want AO games all you need to do is go to porn shops. lol

That trailer is badass. Although 47 seemed a little less stealthy and more… inyourfacey.

As long as they let you play both angles in the new game, I'm cool. I only played the first couple hitman games, but I loved that I could play however I wanted. Clever and sneaky assassin, or balls out trigger happy kill'em all assassin. Each approach was uniquely satisfying.

pretty impressive trailer. it's been a long time since the last hit man game. it'll be interesting to see if they still got it since we've seen nothing this gen from them regarding hit man.

I don't give a damn how bold those moves are just as long the SP experience is just as good if not better than the past titles….. Oh yeah and the stealth keep the stealth please, I don't mind the character being more in your face (hell it make him seem even more badass that way) just as long as you have a choice.

I get a Splinter Cell: Conviction vibe from the trailer and the comments. Which means some will love it and some will gripe about it years after release.

Personally, I'm looking to them taking the stiffness out of Agent 47(as with Sam Fisher). I know it's 'wrong' to go in guns blazing, but don't cripple those mechanics in case someone wants to.

I disagree, it's either/or, imo.

If it is possible to go guns blazing through a level it more or less eliminates the reason to go stealth in the first place.
A good stealth game should give you the "omfg-if-they-hear-me-now-I'll-be-soooo-fucked" kind of thrills. That's what stealth is all about!

Beam is correct, no option but stealth is the proper path or the game won't have the proper effect.

If you want to run and gun, don't buy a stealth game.

Allowing run and gun in a stealth game is like having boost and takedowns in GT. If I want that sort of racing (and I do), I play Burnout. I don't expect Polyphony to add it to their game.

Yeah it's been like that nonstop today. Looks like Ben has to fork out for a bit more server space 🙂

Yeah, it started around midnight & I left Ben a email.
He said somehow the code got fraggled & that it should be fixed now.

BTW, I teased about it, that I figured it was part of the June 16th surprise & that we're probably getting a new updated webpage.

Hmmmm

One word popped into my head when watching the trailer: "Stylish".
It's cool when you only need to show a glimpse of a red tie against white shirt and everyone knows who it is.
I only played one of the Hitman games, I believe it was the second, but that remain in my memory as one of the really good games from those years.

Loved to figure out a plan to solve the tasks.
One of the few games where repeated attempts were *not* annoying.

They have gameplay of the game from E3. It looks pretty decent and they definitely got rid of the stifness from the old games. Also looks like you can do both stealth(which is great) or guns blazing(but won't get you far). I am getting a bit of a splinter cell conviction vibe but to me its not bad. I played most of conviction sneaking through so the game remained awesome for me! :p

That recent trailer has me a little worried that they will take the Hitman franchise in a more action oriented direction. In the trailer 47 was killing his way through all the guards and didn't even bother changing his suit.

So is the new direction action? Devs always say they aren't going to ruin a franchise and then they ruin it. If you don't play it a little safe with established gameplay you piss people off.

Wow that made me think of Capcom with DmC & Square-Enix with FF.

Silent Hill, too.

Speaking of which, Silent Hill should be a stealth game, IMO.

Silent hill as stealth game… Wow what an idea. Now *that* would be a "bold new step" I'd approve of.

Just imagine being hidden in the shadows of a corner while you witness gruesome scenes you are not supposed to see… Omg someone gotta make something like that!

I was afraid of this.

I'm putting my money on a strong multiplayer focus with lots of run and gun action.
