So Remedy is working on a new Alan Wake project. …and Microsoft doesn't seem to know anything about it.

Initially, it was believed the new title – Alan Wake's Night Springs – would land on XBLA later this year. But Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer has told Joystiq that developer Remedy Entertainment hasn't signed with anyone.

"I read that. I don't know that they've signed it with anybody."

Spencer went on to tell us the obvious; that Alan Wake didn't sell as well as they had hoped, but he did say Microsoft wants to work with Remedy again. "We have ongoing conversations with them," Spencer stated.

For a while now, PlayStation 3 owners have been hoping they'd see the next Alan Wake and with this fresh piece of unexpected though welcome news, it doesn't appear to be out of the realm of possibility.

I don't really mind that I missed out on it, not that it isn't or wasn't good. But if it did come to the PS3 I'd definitely give it a go.

These developers need to realize soon, at some point that the 360 crowd is a majority of FPS and online gamers. They are catering to the wrong system and more importantly the wrong demographic. Bring it to the PS3 and they would see an instant impact in sales I bet.

The sad thing is these companies don't even know the basic stuff that us consumers know. They think that because 360 is so big in the US that THAT is the demographic who will buy their game. They don't understand that among console owners who don't have both, there is often a significant personality difference that dictates the type of games one group appreciates over the other.

I know, it's pitiful. Hopefully after how Alan wake performed sales wise, remedy at least somewhat grasps this concept. Their game was huge before release, it's all the fanboys were talking about. But when it comes down to it the 360 crowd is only interested in online gaming, for the most part. Remedy now experienced (and see's) that first hand. I dont know, but when you create a good game, particularly one with a long development cycle, for a console that it didn't sell as well as they'd have liked, rightfully they should weigh their options.

You're right, by the way Alan Wake was good. I actually turned my 360 on and it hadn't ben used in 4 years. I didn't expect to start.

I think this is a game that would sell much better on the Sony platform anyway. I'd certainly get it. I think they should go multiplatform on this one and appeal to both markets, and make some more money so they can keep making great games.

So MS doesn't own the IP?
anyway, when the whole third party world has seemingly gone multiplat it just seems odd that Remedy hasn't followed suite.
I can't imagine a smaller studio like Remedy benefiting from limiting their potential audience by sticking with the KINECT-talking-Chef-shooting crowd.

It also seems bizzare to me that MS didn't just try to subsidize Remedy out right. The Halo, Forza, Fable song and dance can only be re-hashed so many times.

Did you see that Kinect Fable game? That looked so lame I was laughing.

Nah World, I quit before before being further insulted. I'm fine and all will releasing accessories to broaden the appeal of a platform offering. But it's utterly ridiculous watching MS try to shoe horn in their more mature offerings with a retarded interface that limits the fundamental gaming experience.

A StarTrek moment, but something that applies to PlayStation..

IDIC – Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination.

PlayStation brings the greatest diversity of game and gamer and brings them together them in endless combinations. Is that not a thing of beauty?

Meh if we do not get the 1st game I am not interested, I have yet to get over the trouble Mass Effect has on the pS3.

But even your fav FF series has had it's roots on other platforms. In 15 years time when we're playing Mass Effect 8 I don't think it'll really matter where the first game was.

Temjin, I totally agree with your theory….but right now if given the opportunity, I would like the first one to come over to the PS3 first.

It kills me that ME 1 can't be played on the PS3…but as long as you know the story from the first, then it won't be that difficult to get into future installments….just more of a petty complaint of mine ūüėČ

Final Fantasy is very different, each FF game the story is contained within a single game (unless there is a sequel, which is always on teh same console.) Mass Effect 1 was never on the PS3 so it makes the rest of the trilogy on the PS3 a waste of time, epsecially as actions you take in the first game change the course of the 2nd. A comic book is a poor substitute for a gaming experience.

If they release Alan Wake 1 on the PS3, heck I'll even buy it as it is a 360 exclusive I have wanted to play for ages, but i do not want left overs. and thats exctly what ME 2 & 3 are on the PS3.

I like what everyone has had to say on this. While I like the plot in the ME games, for me the biggest draw is the aura and convincing assumed role acting as Sheppard within the fascinating ME universe. If I didn't have a 360 I would still value the series and look forward towards each consecutive installment.

Well you're not getting the first game Ultima. And I suspect you wouldn't need it. Wake probably wouldn't do a direct sequel.

Hope they do. This time I and I predict many PS3 users will give them money this time. I love Remedy and was severely disappointed about no PC the first time around. There was no logic.

Looking Glass

What I would like to know is just who's bright idea it was to release the game on the exact same day as Red Dead Redemption. Because if it was in fact someone at Mircosoft I would imagine the people at Remedy would be privately feeling rather sore about it especially since they spent a large amount of time working on the title. But in any case Remedy is probably not feeling too good that a game they spent so much time on didn't sell all that well. So now I think it's a safe bet that they are at least considering an alternative approach to the platforms. It wouldn't be all that surprising if they went multi-platform at this point. No matter which way you cut it Remedy currently has relatively little incentive to stick with xbox exclusivity. Unless of course Microsoft sends them a butt load of money a la Ubisoft. And they just might do that so let's not assume anything at this point.

The first one was great. I loved every second of it. Hearing this just makes me wonder how much better the first one could have been as a PS3 exclusive. They definitely appealed to the wrong crowd with that game. Not a knock on 360 users but the majority aren't very versatile when it comes to gaming..

I would love to see Sony snatch up Alan Wake 2!! Even more so, it would be very nice to see some fan service! For example, Bioshock Infinite is coming out on the PS3 with Bioshock 1 on disc! How cool would it be to see Sony grab Alan Wake 2 and have Alan Wake 1 on disc! I will D1P Alan Wake 2 by itself if it makes it to the PS3. But with Part 2 as well, that would be sweet! It won't happen that way but oh well. They need to make a ton of money on Alan Wake from PS3 owners.

Based on those quotes it sounds like MS doesn't give a crap. If a game doesn't blow up and make them tons of money they don't really care about the devs or the game.

BTW the Gears 3 footage at E3 had me scratching my head. I know it's probably tons of fun but visually it looks like a multiplat not an exclusive.

Jesus Christ…Alan Wake didn't do that poor…it reached 1 million at least. Don't blame Xbox users for being ignorant, Alan Wake was hardly advertised by Microsoft, but then again Heavy Rain wasn't either and it sold bundles so maybe Xbox players don't care for serious titles but then again LA Noire sold more on Xbox, but then again most fans probably thought it was another GTA/RDR and were disappointed. Who knows?

Fact is, they should go multiplatform and give us somemore mature titles to play in the mist of overhyped shooters.

Fane1024

Alan Wake did do poorly at launch, though it has had "legs" and has just passed 1 million units sold a little over a year later.

Not horrible sales, but many games (e.g., Heavenly Sword) have been called "failures" with similar numbers.

The key point, however, is that M$ and their fanboys hyped it as if it would be another Halo / Gears-like weapon in their arsenal and the bulk of Xbox owners simply didn't bite.

could swear remedy said M$ own the IP rights to this, so seeing it on ps3 is as likely as seeing kratos on the 360!
i dont really want another AW game to be honest, the writing was fan f*cking tastic!
but the gameplay was seriously repetitive, and boring as f*ck!
if they can turn this into a more survival horror orientated experience, with the story and writing of the original game it would be much better.
the gameplays just FAR too boring!
dont really find any new enemies or anything, its just shine light, shoot for the whole freaking game!

I think this game would do well on the playstation just because we seem to have a broader range of different games to play on the ps3 and alot of people i know are willing to try a different game just because its new. Unlike most of my familiy who only claim that the xbox is better because they get map packs first for COD.
