E3 2011: Tekken Hybrid Emerges

Well, this isn't a bad idea at all.

Namco Bandai Games America has announced Tekken Hybrid exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It's a collection featuring the new full-length 3D feature film, "Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D," and the remastered Tekken Tag Tournament HD .

The package also includes "additional content yet to be announced," but for more info, that slick movie will be presented as a special NCM Fathom event for one night only in over 375 theaters across North America on July 26. The home entertainment release of the film will come on Blu-Ray and DVD, but with full CG and the option of 3D, why pass on the Blu-Ray?

The screenplay was penned by Dai Sato ("Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex," "Cowboy Bebop") and the score has been composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto ( Ogre Battle , Final Fantasy Tactics , Tekken 6 ). Handling the directing reigns is Youichi Mouri, who directed the opening cinemas for both Tekken 5 and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion . said Carlson Choi, vice president of marketing at Namco Bandai Games America:

"Tekken Tag Tournament is considered one of the best titles in the Tekken franchise, and one of the greatest fighting video games of all time, so we’re thrilled to be bringing this property into HD for current generation gamers. Including the remake as part of TEKKEN Hybrid alongside TEKKEN Blood Vengeance 3D allows our passionate fans to immerse themselves in the storied histories of the Tekken characters on their path to the King of Iron Fist Tournament."

Oh man, do I remember Tekken Tag Tournament . So freakin' huge for the PS2 when that system launched.

I may just get this. I never played Tag Tournament, but greatly enjoyed 5 (never got around to 6), and am looking forward to TTT2 (too many T's damnit!) I wonder what the unannounced content will be… Exclusive content for TTT2? Sneak preview for SFXTK/TKXSF? Oh… I'm stopping before I hurt myself.

I've been a huge Tekken fan since playing Tekken 2 back in 2003 for the first time, I believe. Since then, I've owned and played every Tekken game except for the first one. I still remember the day I got Tag Tournament, and I was hooked onto that game for months lol. Great game even to this day. So glad they're making a sequel. I just know it will turn out to be a success.

I am loving the Tekken treatment this E3.

I don't want to play any tag tournaments so I'm good, but I want that movie asap.

Considering Tekken Tag Tournament is the last Tekken game I actually enjoyed (I still play it along with the original trilogy to this day), I'm all for this! TTT was incredible fun and the bowling mode was AWESOME FUN! My brother and I played that non-stop. Bryan Fury/Heihachi bowling team, FTW!

I'm wondering & hoping that they bundle TTT2 in with this already robust package but i can't see it happening. It would be more of an early incentive to keep us happy until TTT2 arrives, but a guy can dream. Regardless, TTT HD will do fine, i just hope Namco give us a solid online mode.

Harada is going to be a busy man, he has so much Tekken projects on his plate right now. I personally think Tekken X Street Fighter will end up getting canned. I just can't imagine how it will work including fireballs & shoryuken's for characters like Ryu, Ken etc in the Tekken universe without some nerfing here & there. I mean it's going to feel pretty unbalanced with Ryu spamming fireballs against your Heihachi, how they will balance out is beyond me. Not only that but the Tekken command lists are massive as it is so they would have to add a load of new moves to the SF characters already limited move set. It's alot more work required than SF X Tekken's project.

I think Capcom got the easier end of the stick here, all they have to do is add a handful of fanbase Tekken characters, narrow down the move set to fan fave signature moves, throw a coat of SFIV visual paint over everything & bam! Dinner is served. I hope i'm wrong but i just can't see them pulling it off as good as SF X Tekken. I'm visualising an end result similar to Street Fighter EX Plus which sucked ape balls.

I hope Harada surprises me though & manages to pull this task off though.

Dai Sato and Hitoshi Sakimoto?? Those are HUGE names. This CG movie might actually be awesome.

I actually really like the Tekken mythology, and I liked how story-heavy Tekken 6 was, even if it was pretty broken online. So I'm very interested in this movie.

They later patched T6 online. It's much better these days.

TTT was my least favorite Tekken of all the tekken's. What you say, Temjin? Least? Well, I'll explain.
It was timing, really. TTT came out when I was really wanting a full fledged update to the superlative T3. And to exacerbate this issue, the whole tag-based over glorified juggle combo craze was becoming way too popular in the arcade scene, gobbling up a ton of my fighting peers to boring matches of setting up combo openers and demolishing life bars. It just wasn't the direction I wanted fighters to go. Thankfully, VF never followed this fad and stayed mostly true to it's combo conventions.

Needless to say I enjoyed and was BLOWN AWAY by TTT's graphics on PS2 launch night. It looked exceptional, even today it looks quite nice. I also liked how TTT allowed for traditional 1vs1 play.

Ultimately I'm more interested in this than the SF vs Tekken game.
