Okay, so you missed it. You were busy. Had to work. Had to deal with the kids. Got hooked on your favorite game.
Well, in addition to catching all the relevant headlines from Sony's E3 2011 press conference right here at PSXE, you can also watch the entire event, courtesy of G4TV. Catch it all as if you were right there: the amazing Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception footage, the new Sly Cooper announcement, the PlayStation Vita's impressive tech and games, and Kobe Bryant fiddling around with the PlayStation Move in NBA 2K12 .
So what was your favorite part? That new PlayStation 3D Monitor that lets two players see a full image when playing what used to be split-screen is way cool. And both Dust and Resistance 3 were definite highlights in our book. …still, nothing could steal the show from Drake's new adventure.
Hell, just give it Game of the Year right now .
I hate to say it but that conference wasn't very good. Where were all the new exclusives? Where was Quantic Dream? Agent? Kevin Butler? Where was Last Guardian? No God of War 4? Final Fantasy Versus? It was all about the Vita, and there wasn't much to that. Move with some games is all well and good but we are hardcore gamers here. I say boo.

I wonder why they didn't show Twisted Metal during the conference.
Not sure what conference you saw. Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, not hardcore enough?
Personally I thought the conference was a good one, light year's better than the Kinect conference.
The Uncharted demo was impressive looking, the R3 demo was kinda brief, and we already knew all about those games so it isn't especially exciting you know.

I hear ya, World. Not as much of a showing for ps3 titles as I expected, but as Highlander has said, the showing of U3, R3 (and Starhawk amongst others) is a big deal, and the knowledge of the others, like Last Guardian suffices my heart.
I, myself, am quite excited about the Vita, though (not so much about the name, but what'evs). Even if it meant nothing more than ps3-like games on the go, that would be good enough for me, but it will also be my first smart handheld device. Yep, I'm getting the 3g model.
yeah im with world i was waiting for that "shocking" moment to happen and then consume me for the rest of the evening
Warmed my heart to see Chloe and Elena again. But that won't keep me excited like last years E3 did.

World,
I thought it was very good, but it could've been pure awesome sauce if Sony had added everything else in that you just stated too.

Shocking moments?
PS Vita priced at $249 when people were scared it would retail at $400-$500?
New 3D 24-inch monitor that has the ability to allow two completely different views of the game locally allowing two players to play head to head on the same console and screen – including glasses and game for $499? I *never* anticipated that screen bundle, or the local head to head play feature. That is very much a 'wow' for me.
The clarity of the Uncharted demo on the PSVita was ridiculous. Remember that was a camera over the shoulder of the player live on stage, no tricks or post processing to enhance the screen, and yet that was clear enough to be visible in the conference room and for us at home. That told me masses about the Vita hardware, the screen is bright and crisp and that was a 'wow' for me too. The other thing that was a 'wow' was how mature the Vita hardware was and the number of games running live on stage in a playable state.
Perhaps I'm easily impressed, but relative to MS who I might rate as a 'C' passing grade, this was at very least a B+.
The Vita screen even looked good in Home. OLED FTW.
@Worlds ITA with your first comment.. I cringed when he said Vita, its a sweet machine but I only play jrpgs on portables so I'll be waiting on jp developers.
hows vitas price a shocking moment?
seriously if your that easily shocked………
everyone knew they would be announcing its name and price point, its just common sense!
wheres the shocks we have come custom too?
wheres the gabe coming to there presser and saying the ps3 version will be the best console version?
honestly NOTHING out of sonys presser was even remotely shocking!
Rockstar didn't show up again this year, so that's why Agent wasn't shown.
I disagree with you World. There were plenty of games (U3, R3, BI, NBA12) to appease the hardcore element.
Gaming is not just about hardcore anymore.
With some of the titles you mentioned, it's obvious they weren't ready yet.
Excuse me Mr Anonymous Cowherd? How is $249.99 for the PS Vita not shocking? the hardware in it outclasses ever smartphone available and things like the Xperia Play retail for something like double that amount without a contract, and that's only a single core CPU and GPU. Considering how much *you* thought the Vita would come it at, 250 USD would appear to me to qualify as at *very* least surprisingly low, which in the context of this discussion is as close to 'shocking moment' as I think we need get.
Yeah, all in all a decent e3. Nothing eye opening, but I'm not disappointed with the lack of content either. Vita at $249.99 and $299.99 was a nice sigh of relief, but I'm still never going to spend that much money for a handheld version of the real thing (that costs the same price).
Thank you World…those were my frustrations with the conference. OF COURSE WE ALL KNOW this was better than Microsoft's conference…but overall it just got "meh…" near the end.
We already knew about the NGP's (I'm still going to call it that) capabilities ever since we saw it in Tokyo! Heck it was running Uncharted there… – now we just got to see it for one more time. And then the other NGP games they showed just wasn't appealing. I thought it would have been cool if they showed a bit of Gravity Daze since that thing looks as if it can truly implement the whole augmented reality thing.
We all knew it was going to be priced @ $250/$300…that honestly did not surprise me. I mean c'mon Sony has played the game over and over with Nintendo, they learned once with the PSP and a 2nd time with the PS3 (REGARDING PRICING) -> and now…they are definitely going after them. But kind of bummed out that they got rid of the memory storage =/
And ok as far as PS3 games though…yes there was Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, StarHawk and DUST 514…but maybe it's time for something else…instead of a TPS/FPS? And while Uncharted goes more under Action & Adventure…I still wanted a different genre. LIKE…AN RPG. Seriously, where on earth have they gone?
I'll repeat what World has asked…where was Last Guardian, AGENT, Versus XIII, and a new God of War? And ok…I was kind of waiting for Kevin Butler too, for some humor…though Tretton is quite charming at times 😉
almost everything shown at E3 we had already seen.
how can you be shocked by a price, i mean seriously?
its definitely a excellent price for the device, but it certainly did not have the wow factor a new game would of had.
hell, GOW4 or KZ4 would of shocked people more then the NGPs price!
Really liked the Uncharted 3 demo, however, I think a few other games looked better (not that it doesn't look fantastic!!). So far my favorites from the show are..
Batman Arkham City
Bioshock Infinite
TES Skyrim
Assassin's Creed Revelation
Uncharted 3
Tomb Raider
Far Cry 3
Assassin's Creed had the best Demo and the best Trailer at the show today. Period.
Look up the gameplay demos of Batman AC and Skyrim too. They weren't at any of the big conferences, but they were stellar.
PS: Far Cry 3 looked so good I went and bought FC2 (even though I've played it before) off Amazon for $16 brand new. =^.^=
Finally I got to see it too, and Far Cry 3… One word. *wow*!
I'm sorry but the conference was a litle underwhelming for me.. The cool new TV has gotta be the best thing about it.
PS Vita was the best thing. The TV cam a close second, especially with the dual view feature.
Jacks remark at the journalists at the start won't earn him friends there, but I loved it.
The truth hurts.
How big was that monitor did he say?
24 inches if I remember right.
they said 24" … not very big, they couldve gone with a standard 32" monitor instead…maybe later on, since the tec so new and all 🙂

Pffft. What am I gonna do with that use it as a fancy pizza plate?
You wanted 32-inches in 3D for $499? Bloody hell, what more do you want Vita for $99.99? I loathe this constant entitlement minded crap from people who aren't willing to pay the actual price for something. If it costs $499, it costs $499, either save up, or buy something else.
The TV is also bundled with 3D glasses and Resistance 3. 😉
If you think I feel entitled you are mistaken, but who games on a 24 inch screen these days? There's no point in even making one that small.
I'm with World. 24 inches is like the monitor on my office PC. Who games on a 24" today? Nevermind the price, they have to make it big enough to be relevant!
Worlds, you were not the one demanding 32-inches at the same price point, unlike 'x_JoNaH_x'
little touchy today high?
hes got a point 24 inches is just too small, i mean come on my freaking PC monitor is larger then that!
they should of gone for that at that price, but offer a larger screen at a slightly higher price point.
there going to loose allot of interest in that simply because its far too small!
ok for people playing in a bed room, but what about the people who want to play in the living room without spending 2+K on a conventional 3D TV?
great idea, poorly executed!
highlander he said nothing of the price i believe he was stating that the tech is so new that they for some reason they haven't applied this tech to a screen size most people use, true it will cost more for a 32+" but i would buy it…it seems they know they messed up with such a small screen especially since one of the points of the screen is multi-player action, that why they are bribing people with the game also.
@highlander: i wasnt demanding anything…i never said that i would've wanted a 32" at the same $499 price point….i just said that it would've been nice if they went with a 32" screen or bigger with an obviously higher price. But as i said the tech is so new that they probably want to see how well it does in the market first before they make bigger sizes…and to allow people to sample the tech without breaking the bank, so they went with a smaller screen size, to keep costs for everyone down.
I agree with World. Who plays videogames on a 24" TV….now granted the 2 player mode is VERY interesting, but you'd have to buy another pair of $70 glasses for that. Doesn't seem worth it, IMO. Walmart was selling a Vizio 42" 3D TV the other day for 659.99. I'm still deciding if I should take the plunge into 3D, and if I do it'll be with the 42" not 24".
Who games on a 24" TV? My children do. The TV in the living room is 65"(my TV), so a 24" TV will do quite nicely for a bedroom/office.
The multi-view screen is a Godsend.
I fail to see how pointing out the bleeding obvious to people whining about the size of the screen is being touchy.
You know what? I guess I must be the one being unrealistic to think that $499 is a pretty damn good price for a 24-inch full HD monitor with 3D and dual view capability, a set of 3D glasses and a copy of Resistance 3. I mean, far be it for me to suggest that someone whining about the size of the thing is being entitlement minded. If you are so concerned about the size of this *monitor* then go buy a regular 3D TV and stop whinging. Personally, I play on a 22-inch wide screen display by Asus, a 24-inch screen would look great by comparison, either would be perfectly big for single player gaming of any kind other than the main living room. I mean come on, this isn;t a freaking TV for your living room, it was described as a monitor for your desk, bedroom dormroom etc. If you are so demanding that you can't see how this is a great product idea, then go buy a 32-inch 3D TV and see whether you can find room on your desk, watch out for the sore neck you're going to get trying to play games on a screen that big 2-3 feet from your face.
If you live in a student flat or use your ps3 like one use a PC then sure, this may be a good deal.
But I dare say most of us use the ps3 connected to the tv in the livingroom, sitting in a sofa several meters away. And to those users this itty bitty tiny screen is *useless*, regardless of price, also because it needs to be used as a TV display.
So it's not a question of pricing, but usage. And this is, at best, a niche product only because of the size.
To try to make a really bad analogue: If a fully functional, high quality Sixaxis Sony controller the size of a lighter were sold for $3 USD it would, objectively speaking be a darn good deal. It's just… it's useless!

It was a decent press conference but I do feel that they could have jammed more into it. It felt like it was all about Vita at the end. But all in all light years better than M$ conference. I'm interested with the new console that nintendo is going to unveil tomorrow. If it's a glorified wii then I will be highly upset. That and I'm hoping that they will have less shovelware to go with it. We shall see.
I think the shovelware thing will depend on whether or not 3rd party devs will put 360/PS3s on the Wii2 as well. I think because those games couldn't go on Wii it just filled with crap that used the wand in some way some how.
I foresee about 2 years of cross-platform games and then the Wii 2 gets left behind (again).
I'm excited for Nintendo's conference too just to see what they unveil as the Wii 2. Will be very, very interesting no matter what.
Uncharted 3 looked boring as all heck. Dang near 10 minutes of nothing. I'm not sure why ND tries to put so many different animations while he's walking, but he looks like he's having a serious bout with some muscle disorder. I thought the trailer would save it, but, unh uh. Neat visuals, but that's about it. I thought they were going to 'blow our minds at E3'? Then they play another Uncharted later on the Vita for 5 more minutes. My goodness.
Sony had a pretty weak show. Not MS weak, but still. Nintendo will probably put both of them to bed tomorrow. (today)
I thought Deception looked great. Your interpretation is kind of strange, more environmental immersion and realistic physics are looking great to me. The water alone could cause a techie Geek a nergasm.
I think Drake's walking/running animation spasms you describe are due to the fact that the ship is rocking back and forth so he's trying to keep his balance. o.O
